In their black icon Edition jerseys today so what are we looking at tonight what are we gonna keep an eye on when the Spurs and Memphis I’m sorry bucks excuse me get things going let’s start off from the buck side the keep an eye on the turnover issues with Milwaukee

They got a great record you know they’re they’re on a little bit of a winning streak right now two- game Road winning streak but they have turned the ball over more than they’re opposition in the last three games so they’re being a little more careless with the ball in

The last three games so hopefully the Spurs can capitalize on that help them at least keep it close or get a w in San Antonio so watch the Bucks turnover issues of late hopefully the Spurs can turn those into some easy points in transition keep it and also things on

Game uh basically he wasn’t supposed to and he checked himself in about a minute laps is and they pull him back out after the game when biama did admit that he did s himself in he wasn’t supposed to pop and the coach that brought him back in and and he’s clearly frustrated with

The minutes restrictions what what do you make of this is this a is this a good thing or a bad thing a little bit of both to be honest with you yeah um you know I I’ll give you an example you know the minutes restriction that we have there is what

About 24 about 24 yeah and he played 26 minutes against the Grizzlies and you know you wanted a bonus to right he wanted a bonus two minutes exactly that’s what he said he goes he goes I wanted a bonus two minutes yeah yeah and you know it’s funny because you know

Remember a week or two ago he almost had a quadruple double he was on track for one had he played a 35 36 minute game he might have been one of the few people ever in NBA history to get a quad dub and they held him back even though

He was having a monster game over the course of 24 minutes you know he hits 24 minutes they pull him out now part of me is excited that he wants to be out there and he has the Fire part of me is excited that that he feels comfortable

In himself and that he’s chomping to get out there that he’s he’s he he’s he is is is distressed being on the bench caged animal I like that mentality at the same time this is a throwaway season the Spurs have punted on this season they wasted his his

Freshman year if you will and I don’t want him getting injured in this type of thing now I know he can get injured at any other point uh but if you’re playing 30 minutes as opposed to 24 there’s a heightened chance of you getting hurt because you’ve got more minutes out

There and we still don’t know what it’s like when they have all those miles on the odometer of his ankles and his knees because he’s never played an 82 Game season before he’s never had to travel from place to place to place the way that he does now because in Europe I

Mean Europe’s the size of Texas smaller than the size of Texas this 82 Game season he’s having to travel to LA to New York to Miami to Seattle and everywhere in between so it’s it’s very important for the Spurs to kind of figure out what they’ve got as far as

His long-term health is concerned because we saw what happened to kawh Leonard it’s different but still we saw what happened to him when he wasn’t taken care of correctly one last point though the Defiance yeah that is the word being used the Defiance when in 26 27 28 years have we

Ever seen someone be defiant towards Greg papovich to say you know what yeah I’m gonna get up and check myself back in I I I think of one person I think Tim Duncan did that a few times says lot D did it says a lot and Tim Duncan was bigger than pop and

Whether you like to admit it or not or people would like to admit it or not wimy is bigger and more important than Greg papovich and part of me is is asking the question is he doing this iance because he wants to play is it because he’s

Bored on the bench is it because he’s tired of losing is it because I mean what would the Spurs record be if maybe if he played 30 33 minutes per game would it be better well well maybe it would have be six wins on the season because I think part of the frustration

Was the Spurs were still in that game late in the fourth versus Memphis there was about 10-point difference and they were showing some sort of fight right to make it interesting and I think that may have spurred him into wanting to hop back in um you remember he’s still he’s

A 19-year-old kid okay and he was very open about his feelings saying that he felt good to come and play and he’s been this is not by the way everybody this is not the first time he’s vocalized frustration with the mines restriction he’s been saying that for the past few

Days okay past few games I should say but which is fine you know players do that soan complained about playing a point guard openly it happens but what separates this is that he took it upon himself to do something against coach pop as you brought up not many do that

And rarely you have to be a Tim Duncan level there’s video of Tim Duncan even telling papovich down the court hey I’m gonna go pick up a technical foul right now and you’re not going to be able to stop me you know so right that type of

Uh level now what what I take away from it is good and bad I like that this kid wants to get W’s I like that this kid knows that he’s a very valuable part of this team on on the on the court and moving forward and he wanted to get wins

I think the the L’s are frustrating him as much as the minist Restriction is I also get a little nervous is because this is a players league and we the Spurs been down this road before with player health and star power kawh Leonard um perhaps they’re

Being too tight on that leash you know you know maybe that’s one of the things that pushed Kawai out of San Antonio we’re gonna push forward but he men is this is such a delicate balance because you have a player who openly says I’m fine I’m fine you know but sure I’ll

Trust the uh Spurs doctors and the staff and everything but then you got the Spurs franch that is a business and that is their largest commodity okay lots to unravel here okay so one of the things that I kind of gravitate towards is asking the question when was the last

Time somebody did this to pop is pop losing the locker room because of a record of five and 20 whatever you know losing 26 out of 28 games is is he losing the locker room when because keep what is it I mean that that the Defiance is a disrespect

Towards pop MH and it’s very possible that that disrespect is warranted I’m not going to sit here and say that that Wy was wrong Wy might be right second thing is is that because you know that I’m not a big fan of Pop doing the rebuild dude if you ask me a question

Would Becky Hammond have five wins with his team Becky Hammond would have doubled the wins than what we have right now right so would have Oka because I believe younger coaches would would get through to 19 to 20y Old players pop turning 75 at the end of this month the

Other thing about it is is that you mentioned the Spurs medical staff Spurs medical staff wmy has his own medical people and if wem’s medical people say that he’s fine that he’s going to believe them probably more than the Spurs medical staff and then the third thing that we

Have is how do you make this guy happy do you is it is it the Spur’s job to tell wmy hey we’re trying to save you from yourself or is it the Spur’s job to make him happy because a delicate balance he did not sign a 20-year deal with the Spurs

So many Spurs fans are telling me well you know what I mean by year three or four by year three or four he’s gone unless he’s happy and wants to stay and if and if he’s put on a leash that he does not believe that he needs

To be on even if it might be in his best interest if it makes him unhappy and he’s being openly defiant two and a half months to do his career we need to pay attention to this and I think that the delegate balance is very very very difficult to

To manage yeah yeah and and that and that’s what I’m what I’m just keeping the back of my head is that you know pop has been lucky in his NBA coaching career to have military guy David Robinson you know yes sir no sir uh you

Had it Avery Johnson you know a player a coach pretty much was a coach on the court uh then you have Tim Duncan who bought into pop and the system and he kept everybody in line and of course Tony and Manu were there as well but

Then as the the players era shifted then now you have the Kawhi Leonards coming in and Kawhi Leonard that’s the thing so but but what I’m trying to extrapolate here is how with wmy now wmy is potentially could be the face of the NBA he’s close but he’s not there yet

And the Spurs bottomed out last season to get this generational player quote unquote here he is in Spurs uniform and perhaps this frustration will set in you know and it just feels like rinse repeat you know that wimy could leave San Antonio because look there’s other players past players who openly say that

You got to have a strong will if you want to make it in San Antonio as very militaristic NBA players are not about that this this in this age well it’s coming at it from a father’s perspective when you have kids you understand that the way that you handle one child is

Different than the other and different than the other because they all have different personalities and as you alluded to you know pop is former Air Force former military background he had uh David Robinson coming out of the Navy you had Tim Duncan who liked the father figure type of relationship and you had

Uh uh uh Tony and Manu who were just happy to be in the NBA because it was their dream come true and and they fell in line because Duncan had already won a championship and and and Robinson was on the team Kawhi Leonard according to LaMarcus Aldridge

Did not care about that whole thing the whole journey the whole life he as Lamarcus said just wanted to ball and and that right there encapsulated you I’m glad you brought that up because what did wimy say in the postgame conference he’s like in a nutshell I’m frustrated human in his

Restriction I understand but then he ended by saying but I wanted to play We Ball yeah he said that yeah and and and that’s the whole thing you know whenever I come out and say that I believe that Becky Hammond or EMA yoka or you know

Maybe even a will hardy or anybody could have gotten better um performance out of this team because they’re younger it’s because it’s kind of difficult for somebody who’s older to to to do that type of of training with somebody think about it in 1998 when Tim Duncan was with the Spurs right Tim

Duncan joined this team and he was 22 years old four years of Wake Forest right papovich was in his early 50s there was a age difference of 28 years there right so no than a father son type of deal right now that’s 28 year difference

Right you go now pop is 75 in a few weeks and you have Victor womam who turns 20 pretty soon that is going from a 28y year difference in age to 55 year difference in age and that’s the same age as Jeremy soan and pretty damn close to vasel Kellin Johnson Malachi Bram

Trey Jones and all of those guys it’s different man and and so the game has evolved the game has changed you got to make this guy happy and what I think the Spurs organization needs to do is ask Wy and a lot of Spurs fans old schools

Are gonna get pissed off by hearing this they gotta ask wimpy who do you want as your coach what do you need because you are the future of this team not this coach that’s been around for three decades you are the future of this team

And and and I I know I know I talked about sports with like my dad and my dad hates the fact that LeBron James dictates who the coach is and Kobe Bryant dictated who the coach was and all of that stuff but it is a players league if Giannis doesn’t like his coach

Giannis’s coach is gone if joic doesn’t like his coach or if Luca Dona doesn’t want like their coach that coach is gone that’s the way that it may have happened in Dallas with Rick Carlile yeah it may have happened yeah and and and who’s to say that that’s not going to change now

Because I believe the Spurs front office needs to take a look at it and go oh my God we have a generational player here we need to treat him as such because the Spurs way died the Spurs way you know what the Spurs way is the Spurs way is

We’ve had five seasons in a row of losing records that’s the Spurs way well recent history yes yeah well none of nobody from 2014 is on this roster yeah yeah he’s the last he’s The Last Remnant of those those Glory years I know and uh

That’s it I mean think about it you you know that whole GIF from Titanic it has been 84 years well pop is nine years away from that yeah hey you you know circling back though on that Defiance because that’s what Wy did he defied the medical staff um instructions that he’s

On a Min restriction you know yeah I I I I do like it I like that I like that competitive spirit in him that fire in him uh I mean for a 19-year-old kid to go against Pop and the medical staff that’s been heralded across the NBA as

Best in the business I mean w you know good job wmy you know but you know but you also I get it too you know that’s their commodity you’re you’re in you’re in the financial world you know it is about having a hot stock and all that stuff

And that’s what the Spurs have and they don’t want to see it get hurt now look um I don’t do you think this will have a ripple effect like do you think in a good way or bad way where the sense of the Spurs would be like okay the doctor

Said wimy that you’re on a medical restriction of 22 minutes what do you feel I want to play okay we’re gonna go with you now your your your your diagnosis I think the ripple effect is going to be that ultimately W’s gonna get his way yeah and uh and I I know

That the Spurs are trying to save him from himself and I understand the mentality and I get all that uh but when you are that good of a player mhm and we haven’t seen you know what we saw how good he was one game against the Suns

Back in October that was a long time ago when when everything goes goes to form and all that stuff we’ve had other games where he’s done very well good yeah I can just imagine what this guy is going to look like when he’s playing with good players whether it’s in San Antonio or

Someplace else because he’s gonna Thrive with better Talent around him he’s going to thrive with veterans around him do you know what he’s not gonna thrive on he’s not gonna thrive on pop and the and the coaching staff sitting them down with a VHS tape of Kevin mcale High VHS tape

Yeah two teachers just rolling it out rolling the VCR yeah you know I wonder like if you’re Blake Wesley because that’s who subbed in for uh for for wiama like he’s got to be like wait you sub you like like you checked yourself in like and you check you picked me to

Come out of the game like like pop didn’t know they didn’t so he’s like so you’re wimy coming out okay Blake you’re out like imagine that now what I want to know was and Blake sits down and says wait he wasn’t supposed to come in and

He puled he pulled me out of the game he well he’s like process of elimination you were the most recent in Austin okay right yeah yeah is that a reflection on Wesley from wm’s point of view like it wasn’t a big he didn’t tell I I don’t

Remember if bar was out there or maybe to the bench maybe he was closest to the bench he just went Wesley you see Wesley come out you’re like and he has no idea what wimy just did can you imagine if he had walked in going we’re going four down you know he

Start calling plays making call the play yeah was that next for for wimy he’s gonna start calling plays on the court you know like yeah ignore pop he he called whatever four down we’re to go one down for me you know just yeah but we’ll see exactly what happens now does

It a poster dunk was it johnar special dunk and I’m gonna tell you why it was the crowd reaction says so oh they’re their gy in their gym I get it I get it but you have 20,000 people jumping up and down celebrating it and you have the

People in the front row standing up and and doing dances no then it is what it is whether we want to admit it or not now is it a weak one it is the weakest posterized play of all time it’s i’mna put poer on it

I it’s a poster I’m going to tell you also a reason why it was a poster it’s because Wy fouled him too so make it a poster Wy got his it should have been an n one which would made it even worse okay so with that play right

Side of the basket you know uh uh Mor crosses him over puts him on skates I thought that was more impressive than the dunck wmi recovered right and wmi didn’t really jump up in the air he kind of skipped over try to catch up and he

Was he was you know the the rim was getting in the way so he had to go under the rim to try to block it and it wasn’t going to happen you know Mor had a step and that was enough for him to dunk it

And if you take a look if I bet you I bet you there’s a still shot somewhere up there of Morant Duncan and wy’s hand being up there trying to it’s there already it’s there it was a poster it wasn’t the greatest poster of all time

This was not Sean Kemp this was not Tom Chambers this was not Carter this was not Jordan or Tracy McGrady Dominique Wilkins none of all the the greats from back in the day that that would posterize people I’ve seen Morant you know go off on people and just that’s

Poster yeah and and and but the the the one thing that puts it over the top that puts it over the top was the crowd reaction because the crowd reaction was yeah ex electric it wasn’t it wasn’t like a ooh kind of reaction it was people dancing like dancing in the aisle
