Steve Kerr on Warriors Late Loss to Nuggets | Jan. 4, 2024

I think they Clos the game on a 254 run what do you just kind of think went the most wrong in those final six yeah I mean I just give them credit they they um they really tightened up defensively uh and then um you know their guys hit

Some big shots they got to the line um I thought Aaron Gordon was fantastic tonight really dominated the second half half in the paint and um especially the fourth quarter and then uh you know Watson hits the big three that was probably the shot of the game um and

They did a good job getting stops so um I feel for our guys that’s a that’s a really tough one I mean um our guys played great and uh you know 35 assists and 10 turnovers and you know we executed most of the game but um just couldn’t couldn’t score and couldn’t get

Stops in that last five six minutes You’ said it a couple times this year that you usually get you know one maybe two two of these like gut punch losses it feels like yeah these are piling up a bit I mean is that kind of the internal

Sense too uh we’ve had we’ve had a few of them this year we um you know it’s um it’s part of being in the league you know everybody’s got amazing talent and great coaching and and um you know you just um these games all come down to the

Wire it feels like for us this year and um we’ve we’ve probably lost four or five that we should have won maybe we’ve won one or two that we uh shouldn’t have but um yeah these are these are gut punches for sure give the nuggets credit um but from

Your coaching perspective was there a breakdown in the fourth quarter on the side of the Warriors did you see a breakdown at all whether it was the shots that just weren’t falling anymore or fouls that started to pile up what did you see yeah they just went on a

Great run they they U they made stops and um you know they they tightened up their defense we couldn’t really get um many Great Looks um and they scored like I said I think they they um you know got to the line 21 times in the second half

And and those those hurt you know just um you know I thought our defense was really good wasn’t a matter of us uh reaching but um I thought Gordon’s physicality and the paint was really the key in the second half uh Kingo it looked like he was giving you a good

Scoring boost in the first half but went into the decision not to have him play in the yeah he was playing great and and uh you know his normal time to go back in would have been around the um you know five six minute Mark and wigs was

Was playing great we were rolling we’re up 18 19 whatever it was and so we just stayed with him and then at that point um it didn’t feel you know um like it was the right thing to do he’d been sitting for a while so I stayed with the

Group that was out there and um obviously um you know we couldn’t couldn’t close it out you you only scor four in the last I think 634 uh what do you think was the biggest just offensive problems like what bogs you down uh you know we just um we weren’t getting a

Great penetration um you know earlier in the game we were getting a lot of pocket passes um you know from the perimeter and then playing kind of four on three three on two and we didn’t get any of those they really tightened up and um so

We we had to take a lot of contested shots and uh and just you know they they buckle down like I said I give them credit Steve what do you think of the contributions from Brandon tonight especially in the third quarter Brandon was great um he really played well and

You know he’s he plays well um every night he’s a two-way player and you know the the ball moves when he’s out there and you know he’s a he’s tough Defender so Brandon continues to to grow coach you talked a lot about perspective before the game kind of

Feeding off of Clay’s comments how hard is it to kind of get your team to keep perspective after a loss like this uh I mean it’s it’s it’s still a game you know like we lost a game and this is our job and we you know losing sucks um we

Get to come back here tomorrow and play another another NBA game and we got to bounce back so this is all part of this life you know that that we all live um highs and lows and everything in between so this is a this is a tough one this is

As tough as they get this lost tonight um but we got to bounce back tomorrow with four seconds left the ball was in jokic’s hands and he is who is but it’s also feels a little improbable that a center would hit a 39 foot three-point shot what did you think when he launched

That uh it didn’t look like it was going in um you know when it left his hand it looked it looked long but obviously you know it it uh it banked in but if anybody’s gonna make it it’s him you know he’s he’s great great player Steve it looks like Denver knows

Exactly who they want to go to and what they want to do in the fourth quarter that used to be how you guys operate is it difficult with so many players and so many rotations to kind of get that crunch time offense and defense down um I think uh you know maybe maybe

We haven’t found that yet U because we’ve you know we’ve had different rotations different lineups and as you said but um we still have to figure it out we still got to do a better job you know getting um getting open looks and U

That’s on us as a staff to to help the players and get get us to that point thanks

  1. “ couldnt score , couldn’t get stops” WHEN DO WE BLAME THE HEAD COACH FOR THESE PLAYMAKING MISTAKES. Dude can’t draw a play on either end to save our lives.

  2. Fire Kerr. His late game rotations were horrible. His small ball lineup got destroyed by AG in the 4th. What this man is doing with Kuminga & Moody is a crime. Time and time again this man manages to screw up the rotations and cost the dubs game after game.

    FIRE STEVE KERR.

  3. At this rate, the Warriors won’t even make it to the play in. These days whenever they have a big lead, I start to worry, because ultimately, they always blow leads.

  4. If we are going to have a lumbering Frankenstein like center, can he be a 7 footer instead of Looney?

  5. When Kerr focuses on Jokic, pokes the bear, and doesn’t focus on his coaching, BIG MISTAKE. Cut the Jokic disrespect nonsense.

  6. Fire Steve Kerr. Since Mike Brown left, the team has been struggling. Look what Kerr did with team US in the World Cup. He can’t coach.

  7. This overrated coach Kerr, w/ his obsolete small ball mentality, blew 17+ lead for the 4th time this season. Replace Kerr with Mike Budenholzer.

  8. Instead of signing interior defenders to help, the warriors decided to get Chris Paul, and draft a bunch of pg’s thinking that’s gonna solve the problem. This isn’t 2016 anymore, small ball isn’t the answer.

  9. Why you hate Kuminga so much, coach Kerr😔😔😔
He gave what he got on the court and got benched the whole 4th Quarter!

Exactly the same as the previous match vs Nuggets! He did well and brought trouble to Murray and you just ruined it.. Well played 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
