Loss to the bucks but boy what a game it was we have our guest coming on Rudy compos he’s going to be discussing with me regarding the play of Blake Wesley if the Spurs should tap into his skills at the point guard spot and Lottery odds we’re talking about that already already

That’s coming up next on lockdown Spurs but about well last night your SPS yes your Spurs took it to Milwaukee Bucks yeah they made a game of it and it was a thrilling game yes I know Spurs lost 121 125 bucks got that W Spurs Los Street

Continues but there were just so many positives coming out of tonight’s uh game versus Milwaukee from start to end they got a complete game and that’s takeaway number one we saw this team finally play play 48 minutes of basketball they took Milwaukee to The Bitter End Janis hits a

Couple of Threes didn’t knock them out laying the game nope they come back and they actually make things interesting so what I liked about this game tonight was that the Spurs were just competitive there was no third quarter blowout that did not happen at all matter of fact the

Spurs were up on the scoreboard late in the final frame it it almost happened and yes I get it it’s still a loss but boy did we get a glimpse of what this young team could possibly believe with some seasoning some chemistry some time together I think this we got we just got

A glimpse of what this team can be for 48 minutes and in time wow what a fun young exciting game team this could be moving forward takeway number two Victor Wim bayama woo I mean my goodness what can’t he do well I tell you what he can

Do self alleyoop he did that during the game I was going to tell you he could knock down key threes he could be a force in the paint he could be a force in the perimeter yeah Victor wiim banama he finished 27 and 26 minutes 10 for 18

From the field had nine rebounds and um yeah just what a game I mean this you can just see what this now 20year old can possibly be um with more time under his belt and what he’s already doing is just amazing and you look beyond the stats and the numbers you saw exactly

The leadership that’s what I liked that about him Blake Wesley passed him up on a shot early in the first half and for a 20-year-old to come and start telling a guy older than him has been in the league at least a season on him says hey

You messed up you missed me you like to see that from a young buddy star that San Antonio has he is beol becoming the leader of this team little by little game by game getting more vocal with the guys and sure he put up the numbers he

Put up the highlight reels we get all that but what I really like were those intangibles the energy he gets a dunk he runs out halfway through the stands here pumps up the crowd pumps up his teammates leadership I mean Victor wama did it all it’s just a shame he has not

Won Rookie of the month so far for the West come on NBA so Victor wami definitely was one of the best games of his career that I’ve seen so far sure there was that Phoenix game but what he did the complete package on the court and those intangibles in leadership just

Spoke volumes takeway number three first B got that one-two punch with wmy Devin Vel boy was he great Dev Vel finished with 34 points to lead the team he goes 14 for 21 from the field in 34 minutes he also brought in four assists and six rebounds he could possibly be the onew

Punch with women that’s what you liked out of it and after the game uh you know he was very positive he even says that he this could have been one of the best games this team has put together so far this season and in a Down Season I think you Spurs

Fans will take anything you can right now for any type of signs of positive strides moving forward so deel coming off a bad game uh prior to tonight’s Milwaukee game and to come out and really show out really be that complimentary piece to wmi Wy didn’t

Have to do it all it was obviously de Vel was a major piece of that but you also had you know you you had Kellin Johnson Off the Bench he gave you 14 points cidd Osman 13 points you got a complete game but circling back to Deon

Vasel what you just want to see out of him now is just more consistency can he do it game in game out he’s been a little up and down but boy did he come out so takeway number three is this could be a possibly a great Duo for the

Spurs move moving forward so yeah Spurs got the L but there was definitely a lot of excitement let me tell you this is one of the most exciting uh games that I’ve been to this young Spurs season home game the crowd was electric cheering yelling getting into the game

You loved it all Spurs fans they brought the energy tonight and the and the players recognize that so the Spurs now they dropped to 5 and 29 they go back on the road that’ll be their next game so kind of an atic month of January uh so yeah if you

Wanted some signs of progression and progress you certainly got that tonight despite a loss to the bucks but boy was it an exciting game and on national TV too Spurs really gave it to the buck took him to the brink uh hopefully the spur continue this good momentum moving

His time so you know we gotta make sure he’s okay all right we’re gonna just dive into this and again Rudy will talk about his show sweep the league later on this episode so you know with this whole season of experimentation from Jeremy soan at PG to wimy roaming free to all

The various lineups uh you know you know we kind of still have this Cloud over the team one being about the point guard spot Trey Jones still still Off the Bench which is baffling but that’s for a whole other show but if we’re gonna go with this whole experimental mindset

Then why not throw out Blake Wesley perhaps he could be maybe a even just a Band-Aid for the Spurs struggles at point guard spot I mean you have prior to the injury to Malachi brandham he he kind of was at that role but if you want to be technical about it Rudy he

Is probably the next best PG option after uh Trey Jones and he’s been getting burn in Austin so why not give Wesley a shot what do you got to lose what do you think about having Wesley get more minutes at the PG spot you know at this point of the Season I’m

Surprised pop hasn’t made wimy the point guard for a few games yet right um you know Blake Wesley I mean coming in from the draft we knew that you know his biggest uh asset was his speed I mean he was like a Russell Westbrook type of

Player um but also where you get Russell Westbrook speed you get Russell Westbrook’s mentality and he was just too careless so I think the time in the G league has actually done benefits you know a lot of benefits for Blake Wesley I wouldn’t mind seeing him getting a

Little little more burn especially with some injury concerns the San Antonio Spurs have I think at point guard to start him I’m still in favor was trying to start uh Trey first and then bring Blake behind him uh but again in a season full of uncertainty and I think

It’s going to be a season full of uncertainty the entire year uh we just don’t know but Blake Wesley getting some run I mean last game he had a believe against Memphis was like 10 points so I mean it shows something but again we we have no idea what pop and the coaching

Staff are actually believing when it comes to players right now maybe they feel like what Blake just not ready I I think you got nothing to lose at this point of the Season you know you got everything to gain and if if Wesley even even if he’s at full speed

Literally full speed at least that’ll get the team going maybe create some offense you know he has been a lot more mindful about his Pace that’s one thing he was focusing on with the Austin Spurs but I I for me it’s just why do we keep shuttling him back and forth between

Austin and San Antonio if there is a just a depletion or just thin at the point guard spot like somebody that you mentioned you know many times you know somebody who is a point guard who was that at Duke for you know example for Dre Jones you know well then here’s

Blake Wesley look if this also is still a rebuild and development for the players then again more reason to push out Blake Wesley out there let him get his NBA experience not knocking Austin Spurs but if he whether it’s in San Antonio or he goes elsewhere you know

It’s GNA benefit him so for me it’s just he can pick up that pace maybe get the Spurs offense going a little bit faster uh you you got somebody who has experience as a PG maybe cut down some turnovers at that spot uh just for me it just makes all the sense but

Do you still believe that he is still raw oh 100% yes I mean Blake West okay we’re not going to knock on Blake Wesley at all I mean he’s made it to the NBA because he does have Elite Talent uh we’ve seen some really good spurts in

Austin uh with the G League some guys are meant for G League I mean most recent guys like Lucas amonik I mean he’s just kind of meant to be in the G League majority of his career Blake Wes is not that type of guy he can actually

Make it to the active roster uh but I really I really do agree with you Jeff giving him some burn in a season that’s already burned down to the ground pretty much you may as well let him run let him get some of these NBA minutes against

The superstars of the league and see where he stands you never know I mean you know I’m not saying he’s Tony Parker but you know when he threw Tony to the fire you saw what happened he was able to grow up really really fast so I think

Getting this burn in this season would be really good for Blake Wesley you have really nothing to lose at all yeah now you’re looking at the a very very small sample size but the last two games with San Antonio uh you’re seeing a spike in minutes he’s getting about 19

Per game average about 5.5 points per game 1.5 rebounds brace yourself this is what I really like 3.5 assists per game a steal and you look at assist turnover ratio 3.5 assist to one turnover at least in the last two games so okay fine small small sample size shooting wise

45% now if we go a step further look at the last five games he’s played for San Antonio uh in that sense well actually let’s look at the last four he’s getting about 12 minutes per game in the last four 3.5 points per game 2.8 assists still pretty high and turnovers less

Than one 0.5 so to me that just signals a kind of a steadier hand you know who knows you know maybe that that whole shuttling between San Antonio and Austin will settle down as the season moves on and it becomes a wash it is a wash

But he you you know kind of kind of branching off this uh point guard spot so we’re kind of making the case why Wesley should get some run we’re not saying he starts but just get out there yeah why do you think Trey Jones is still in the bench when every freaking

Statistical number you can throw out there him at the starting point guard is just night and day before you answer to me that’s a sign they might be low-key tanking I think so it could be a sign um you know that that’s kind of you know

One of the great seven wonders of the world right now I mean you have a point guard who the team tends to play better when he’s out there exactly and it makes no sense to start him uh I I I think I said it on Los one time before it’s probably that they’re

May be showcasing a lot of these other guys because you may see potential trades at the trade deadline again Trey may actually be in talks about a trade who knows I mean I really don’t know and it’s something that I would love to hear from other people and you know you know

Honestly Jeff you you’ve got insight as far as you know sitting down with uh some of the guys uh media and all that but one question I would love to ask pop over and over is why not Trey I mean the numbers kind of show why he’s he’s

Beneficial to start or get major of the minutes why not him so honestly is it tanking I I don’t know if it’s tanking I mean there to me there’s really nobody out there in this draft at least coming up that you want to tank for and get

Number one for um I really don’t know man that’s a tough question that I can’t really answer I’m pretty sure if Cooper flag was in this draft you would be like Spurs tank go ahead do it but 100% man 100% yeah but to me it’s just it’s just mindboggling because I

You talk about being inide with the locker room and the guys I spoke to the guys about Trey Jones uh Zack Collins was the last guy I spoke with about Trey and he’s like floor leader General gets us in the right spots you know just

Glowing about him um so it it is just to me it’s a head scratcher you know when you up and down the list every stat that you can imagine with trade Jones involved in the first unit is just like night and day I mean it’s just staggering you’re talking about the wind

Shares Spike up the production spikes up you know Assist turnover ratio evens out it’s just why they why like whatever you that’s why that question tanking go ahead has that question ever been asked as far as media goes you know what to my recollection I think it may have came up

Earlier during the uh soan experiment but it hasn’t been brought up anytime soon I think it were at the point now where people just accepted it that they’re at this point they’re not budging U he’s still gonna come off the bench but kudos to him you know he’s

Been taking it like a champ You Know Not Making Waves not you know practices you know not saying oh bleep this stuff you know because I hate it you know kind of like was soed about the point guard spot but so Kudos but as far as Blake Wesley’s concerned yeah I think this

Point of the season I do agree with you you got nothing to lose The Season’s a wash might as well throw them out there the the S small sample size went over shows that he does make somewhat of an impact now if you you know multiply that

Out and project that out if it gets high 20 minutes maybe it could benefit the Spurs and help them solve the point guard spot when we get back we’re gonna switch gears and talk about is it time already start thinking about the NBA lottery we’re not even at the halfway

Compos of sweep the league aka Mr Clark Kent himself uh we’re discussing all things now about the silver and black and Lottery no I The Season’s not over I know some of youall maybe wish it was but are we there yet is it already time for this team to start shifting gears

And maybe putting Lottery odds as one of the top priorities right now are we there yet Rudy has this should this team already be kind of just saying hey you know let’s cash in the chips and let’s get our Lottery odds as best we can you’ll ever hear a team say that they’re

Ready to cat it in as much as fans and everybody feel like they are but um I I think it’s probably time to start thinking about where they’re going to fall in the lottery okay um I mean a lot can happen after you know you know January you still have the trade

Deadline coming up you could see you know maybe people coming into San Antonio give him a little bit of a push to maybe get to a playing spot which you know kind of funny laughing that I’m thinking about them maybe making a playing spot if make moves but right um

There’s still a lot lot of work to be done and I think ultimately pop made a really good uh statement when he said we just really don’t know what we have when it comes to wimba nyama I mean nobody really does so when he made that

Statement it kind of told me okay this is probably going to be a wash of a season because you know I’ve always felt when they drafted Victor you have to put pieces around him well you don’t know what to put around him until you actually see him playing and you know

How he fits your system now that we’ve got a pretty good sample size of how he fits into the system now it’s time to build around him so I would say that yeah it’s probably start time to start thinking about this lottery I was hoping this would be the uh 2025 Lottery

Because there’s just so much talent out there but you know we’ll see what happens if they get another number one pick um honestly if they get another number one pick I’m going to say it right now it’s probably best to maybe trade down and grab some additional

Picks if they have number one you can get a really good impact player you know middle part of the first round maybe you know right around the six seven eth ninth spot too as well yeah yeah I I think we’re there already I think it’s time to start thinking about Lottery

Lottery standings I I think right now even the picks that they’ve acquired from Toronto that that’s kind of on Shaky Ground right now too right yeah I you know what when they traded A og I expected Toronto to just be worse but they seem to have gotten a lot better

Now better yeah not to say that they’re still going to be on this little run that they’re on because Pascal sakam is still on the trading block and they got rid of him I don’t think RJ Barrett and Emanuel quickley is gonna be enough with Scotty Barnes to keep them you know out

Of the lottery but then again who knows I mean that is on Shaky Ground as well that pick yeah yes some of the Spurs protected picks from the trades they made recently are kind of you know iffy I mean that to me that’s like kind of like a nightmare scenario right now for

This team if these protective picks don’t convert I mean that’s not good so that’s why I think keeping up with the lottery odds and making sure they’re in a good spot uh could kind of like hedge their bets you know okay fine if these picks don’t transfer then at least we

Kind of were in a position to get a better pick so they I think they have correct me wrong do they have three possible first round picks their own Toronto and then Toronto again I I forgot how that works out I think it’s Toronto and Charlotte Charlotte that’s

It Charlotte and and Toronto we pretty much guarantee the Charlotte one’s not going to pan out because they’re gonna be a lot yeah they’re gonna be a lottery team so the Spurs are already gonna lose that one so kill that one Toronto is on Shaky Ground right now and then of

Course Spurs have their own so at least they can control their future and the Lotter ODS with their own pick so that’s why I think we’re probably if we’re not there if the team is not there they’re gonna get there soon because there gonna have to come to a point where

You’re G just this team is going to be like okay well let’s start thinking long term again because you know the lottery is coming up you’re right it’s a it’s a shame that it was in LA next year’s draft when you got Cooper flag you know I think they’re comparing him to Larry

Bird style like that kind of oh yeah he’s you’re a big fan of him aren’t you I was a huge fan of Cooper flag I’m a huge fan of Larry Bird as well I mean yeah similar type of players um you know the only thing is is Cooper obviously

Has a a little bit more jump than bird did because back in the day bird could dunk it but it was kind of a struggle for him to get up up but yeah you know the thing the thing that I want people to understand too is the 2024 draft

Isn’t horrible you’re going to get some serviceable bullets but what the Spurs did was they set themself up for 2025 they could have their own pick and they could have the unprotected pick from Atlanta Atlanta’s not exactly gonna be the same team going into the next season

That probably would be worse so um that 2025 draft is going to be huge I I wouldn’t doubt if we have another season like this next year Jeff and if it does I apologize to you because it’s it’s tough to make it through Seasons back

Toback to back like this but 2025 is the year that I have circled uh for this rebuild to kind of already be can you imagine flag and wmy together uh I can imagine it will it happen I don’t know but I can imagine it um that that would be like what dark

Side and Thanos uh basically teaming up BAS yeah it’s like the massive team up in a comic book series I mean it really is but you know we can only dream we’ll see what the Spurs are up to as far as this season still gotta get through this
