Rookie Vince was hyped as being one of the 3-4 faces of the league for the next 20 years. Probably the most exciting, electrifying player to come into the league since Shaq in 92.
Shame he never really lived up to that. Maybe I’m just biased but it felt like once he left Toronto, he just kind of became another good (at times great) player around the league.

It was really exciting to tune in to every game bc there was a chance he’d do something spectacular and maybe something I’d never seen before. I still never forgot where I was when he did the reverse dunk v the pacers. Made me jump like a frightened cat.

We should have made him our first lifer and retiree. After the Hakeem signing, firing Grunwald, not hiring Dr. J, hiring Babcock, he and the front office soured on eachother. They drafted Raphael Arujao, I would have demanded a trade too. Fuck Richard Peddie! Vince Carter was a top 10 player and our best ever at the time. One of the faces of the NBA, we should have rolled out the red carpet for him.

If you didn’t live through the Vince era, you just didn’t know what that was like, it was absolutely electrifying. That’s why old heads still bring him up, even though how he left wasn’t great (wasn’t his fault, looking back). I love Scottie and he’s going to be the franchise going forward, but his rookie season highlights are not comparable to Vince’s highlights here. Not many can match this.

Most exciting player to ever wear a Raptors uniform. It’s embarrassing that we haven’t retired his jersey yet

Vince was scary his first 4 seasons in the NBA, he was already in the MVP race in his third season and people talked about him the same way we talk about guys like Tatum, SGA, and Luka today, he was that good, he was supposed to be the future face of the NBA…
Then he stopped giving a f#$k for whatever reason, maybe due to a lack of love for the game…It’s really difficult to understand what happened because the guy had everything! he was the most athletic/explosive player the game had ever seen, he was a high IQ player, he could shoot from pretty much everywhere including behind the three-point line, which was unheard of back then, he was a good defender…it was really weird to watch him coast through his career like that at the time, such a waste of talent IMO
Still had a great career but he was suppose to be “the next MJ” at one point
