Head Coach Adrian Griffin Postgame Press Conference | 1.8.24

Head Coach Adrian Griffin Postgame Press Conference | 1.8.24

Um just for you guys to go down 33 in the first half just how disappointing was that first half effort well I think it’s just more the way that they were getting their uh points a lot of it was just uncontested threes we’re not into the body uh we were not physical enough

With with their screening with our switches and um you know but at halftime I showed probably more clips than I usually show and you know just areas where we can you know respond you know sometimes a coach you can come in and you know you can go uh Bonkers and but I

Also believe you got to you know show them the areas that we got to improve on and they responded I thought we had a really good second half again we we dug oursel you know it’s two games in a row where we dug oursel in the hole but I’d

Like you know we put some guys out there and the second half and especially C some of our young guys and I thought we competed and we gave oursel a chance to get back in the game but you know we got to make our Corrections um it’s a long

Season you know we’ll get back in the drawing uh in the lab tomorrow and you know find ways that we can get better uh is there a trend line you see in these last two first halfs at all like the fact that you’ve come out to slow starts

Defensively or or low energy or whatever you want to say uh no I think you know every game is different um again I thought tonight was just uh you know we just came back out and as far as Personnel driven uh we you know the first play we gave

Markin a three we got a press up on him and you know it kind of went downhill from there so um but again I thought we made our Corrections in in the second half and uh I think rebounding in the first half was a issue you know uh we

Couldn’t rebound for whatever reason you know long rebounds long threes we got to get to the elbows can’t Le leak out we also have to find a body you know we got to crack somebody and and then go pursue but I think the second half we only gave

Up I I may be wrong I I have to look go back and look at it but I think we only gave up one or two offensive rebounds in the in the second half so again you know uh it was a tell of two games or two

Halves you know and but I thought I love the way we kept fighting you know we could easily lost by 30 and and threw in the tower early but we kept fighting and it’s it’s something to grow on uh on the offensive end there L thrown a lot of

Help at Giannis and then on top of it with Andre on the floor like a non-shooter they threw even more how did you feel like you guys handled that or maybe got better as the game no every every game they’re going to double you know Giannis uh we just got to keep

Making plays and I thought Giannis always does a great job with the double teams you know he’s not going to be perfect you know over a 48 minute game they’re just you know is easy to look at um from the outside but every game he has multiple bodies uh in transition

They load against them in in half court they load against them I’ve never had that issue a lot of us never know will know what it’s like uh Giannis commands so much attention and you know there’s times where you know I feel like you know he gets uh beat up at times you

Know but he plays through it you know he’s he’s he’s incredible um but you know we got to help him and um I thought for the most part we we always handle it pretty well you know it’s not going to always fall and Dre is great like Dre his energy he’s on the

Glass you know he’s in a dunker um he spaced out he attacked the rim you know he he’s going to figure out he just needs more minutes out there you called on Chris Livingston in the third quarter what were you looking for from him and

And what did you see once he got out on the floor well I thought this would be a game um that we can you know with uh Dame out there were and cam out there was a potential that we can or opportunity that we can play him and I

Wanted to see I like I’ve been intrigued with him with his size with his athleticism has great feel for the game and uh I thought he was tremendous throwing him in a game like that um man he played extremely hard he could defend he could rebound finish round the basket

You know so you know hats off to our young guys I thought they really competed him and Dre they did a phenomenal job tonight and AJ you know AJ came in uh we would have probably been down 40 without AJ in the first half he came in and hit a couple threes

And and plays hard so um I like I like what our bench was able to bring tonight after they hit the 16 threes in the first half is it the adjustments just knowing the Personnel like you mentioned or or were there other things that you

Wanted to correct I just think we were a lot of it were we close out short to certain Shooters and then you know with our switching we we’re not aggressive with our switches enough and and you know they were just shooting behind our our our switches you

Know and that’s something we stress you know being physical pushing up switch under then switch out and be more aggressive espec especially with Shooters but uh again I thought we made our adjustments in the second half um but you know we dug oursel in a hole but

We we kept fighting uh your team they came out with a lot of urgency like just even running out of the locker room and a lot of communication on the bench what did you see from them as far as rallying together in the second half

Well you know we we knew we were not playing well and we were not playing up to our standard uh standards and and in the uh like I said in a halftime we showed them areas where they got to improve and you know as they say film

Doesn’t lie and but again we got really strong character individuals on this team that care about winning and it showed tonight we easily could have thrown in the tow um God were great Bobby gave us a lift um Off the Bench tremendously um everyone in that second

Half I thought we we we switched the you know flipped it a little bit as far as our energy and effort and we made it a ball game but you know again you know we you can’t in the NBA you just can’t dig yourself in a you know hole like that

And and then you got to play extremely hard and exert a lot of energy just to try to get back uh into the game so it’s you know it’s a lessons that we we have to learn and um you know winning it it takes what it takes you know I don’t

Make the rules winning makes the rules and uh we got to continue to find ways to get better but um you know this the second half was something to grow on is there anything specifically um that you would pinpoint that you want to build upon that you saw in the second half from

Them well again I think we’re better with our switches we’re pressing up pushing up we’re communicating I hear guys talking pointing talking in the huddles talking on the floor with our coverages uh we I saw guys finding bodies when the shot was taken cracking pursuing the ball limied them to one

Shot um we were doing all the things in the second half that that goes into competing goes into winning uh but there’s still some areas you know we had a few minor um mistakes in the second half that you know that cost us but that’s what

Happens when you get down like that you know it’s less for forgiving but um again there was um some positives to to take away what’s the difference in your approach to adversity in your opinion as a head coach versus maybe your approach when you’re an assistant or even a

Player well you know adversity is going to come it’s just how you respond and you could use it you know use it as a a tool to get better you know we we got faced uh the last couple games with different you know challenges we look at

The film and okay how can we get better and we can go out and teach them um get better with our drills get better with our practices get better with our communication uh get better with our coverages and get better with our execution in the game so it’s still a

Long season we got a lot a lot of games um to play we just got to continue to focus on the things that go into winning and for the most part it’s always going to be controllables you know boxing out fundamentals you know offense screening are angles and executing it’s

Just you control what you can control and that’s my biggest thing my biggest message to them you know you can always control your effort your attitude and our execution out there thank you thank you

  1. If every Bucks fan walked outside and started screaming for Bud to come back. Do you think some where on earth Bud would hear one of us and come back?

  2. FIRE GRIFFIN
You people are wasting Giannis and Dames' chance to do something great. Giannis is in his prime and your franchise is ruining by hiring this ignorant fuck. Its sooooo fucking obvious he has no clue what he is doing. Everything he does on defense or offense he is TOLD by the players. GET a coach with balls, FFS

  3. Mr Griffin you better start looking for an excuse. Boston is coming and there’s nothing you can do about it. Fans in milwaukee better boo this dude at every warm up since now

  4. Bucks still 25-12. We lose without Dame that is for sure. Bucks need to be more physical and not afraid of foul calls is the problem though.

  5. Chris Livingston laid the backcourt defensive blue print. That energy was awesome. Also the year is 2024, don't ever run Giannis as point guard again! It gives time for the defense to wall up more effectively and lengthens the offensive protection or forces a decently contested shot after recovery. We've known this as fact since 2019. After watching that second half there is no reason not to be optimistic. Solid offense and defense, although there were breakdowns at the end from fatigue. Not a good game obviously but real valuable lessons were learned

  6. The thing that's most frustrating with Griffin is his press conferences. It seems like he's always “ happy that we kept fighting “ Sir we played the sorry-ass Jazz. You should be disgust and worried. We are not a happy to fight for wins team. This is not a rebuild or a team trying make the playoffs smh. Our goals are championship or bust. I do fear he may be in over his head

  7. Griffin needs to change the defense or he needs to go. Picking up guards five feet beyond the three point line does not work with this roster and any decent coach would’ve recognized that already.

  8. Lmaooo y’all acting like we have good defenders on the lineup other than the rooks to help with defense what AG supposed to do😂

  9. I'm SICK of this damn coach! FIRE HIM! Every loss, he sounds like he's coaching a college team full of freshman in their first year trying to figure it out! The Bucks are NOT a rebuild! There is too much talent and this moron is under-using the bench and over-using Giannis, Dame, Bobby and Brook! GET RID OF THE COACH OR IT WILL BE A LOSING SEASON FOR THE BUCKS! 🤨😤😠

  10. Roster clearly has problems but man I don’t know the identity of this team, with bud we knew we were defensively minded, we letting the the 3 fly and letting people score in the paint, disaster

  11. This dude might be the worst coach we've ever had, of all time!!! Lol. Giannis messed up big time hand picking him as our coach, probably the biggest mistake of his career thus far. Might as well fire AG tonight, I feel like anyone else would be better at this point. When we hired Terry Stotts as an Assistant, I had a feeling he was supposed to be our backup plan in case AG sucked & needed to be fired, but too bad AG had a power trip & drove Stotts out of town before the season even began. According to reports, dude was mad just because Stotts pulled some players aside to actually "Coach" them, smh lol. All of the games we win, we only win because of how talented we are, not because of AG's coaching. Whenever we win, it's usually just Giannis (& sometimes Dame) going off & bailing us out.

  12. This man seems like a very pleasant fella. You know? A nice lunch date. But if the Bucks dont move on from AG like tomorrow, this team is destined for another disappointing season.

  13. “Gotta get better” and “it’s a long season” starting to sound like compulsive lying, like AG is delusional of what is happening. It’s January. Where is the defensive improvement?-NONEXISTANT, NADA, NoTHIiINg. Fire his ass.

  14. The team did give up on Griffin, he needs to change his attitude and game plan or he is going to have one season as the bucks head coach.
