Mathurin has had some ups and downs (with glimpses of an insane ceiling) this year, but the hard coaching that he and Rick agreed to seems to be working pretty well pretty fast. In less than a season and a half, he’s grown out of a lot of the careless defensive lapses and forced shots. It’s certainly coming together.

I don’t care too much about starter vs. bench players. I care about minutes on the court. I’d rather have Mathurin play 16 minutes as the first offensive option with the bench unit than the same amount of time as an off-ball threat with the starters. He’s also been making a case lately as a mainstay of the closing unit. Without Ty (hopefully for a short amount of time) we might get to see what it looks like to run the offense through Benn for long stretches.

It’s nice to have someone who can play the foul merchant game too.

While Ty is out, Rick should sub Mathurin into the starting lineup as the new primary scorer. Sure it hurts the bench, but there isn’t enough consistent juice with a lineup of McConnell or Nembhard/Brown/Nesmith/Smith/Turner.

Obviously the Hali injury isn’t good.

But I am curious to see the next few weeks with Benny. He’s got that dawg in him. He will want to step up and help carry the load while Hali is out. He wants that responsibility.

Could be a huge step forward for his development and Hali may come back to find a much more dangerous weapon to work with.

Great quote. I see parallels with Maxey’s progression, biding his time until a big explosion this or next year.

You can see all the pieces and he’s putting them together.

He and Haliburton are our future. He should replace Hali while he’s out

Rick knows this role is crucial for a championship. See jet terry

I feel like Benedict will look back at his career in 15 years or so and probably be very appreciative of the way Rick and his staff coached him right as he entered the league. The man is going to be an instrumental part of a championship team one day.

Math looks better off the bench. I know being a starter is vanity thing, but hard to feel bad for a dude who gets starter minutes

Playing great and an ELITE shot maker at times but I think he can’t possible get enough shots/touches for some fans. Like some fans could watch girl HS basketball and their take away would be Ben needs more touches.
