POSTGAME SOUND: TIMBERWOLVES VS. MAGIC | COACH MOSE, JALEN SUGGS & MOE WAGNER

POSTGAME SOUND: TIMBERWOLVES VS. MAGIC | COACH MOSE, JALEN SUGGS & MOE WAGNER

They’re obviously the best in the West for for a reason but what did you see as the the reasons they were able to take control of this one early tonight their length you know they they they do a great job of packing the paint in and

You know to keep guys honest you have to knock shots down uh and that early in that first quarter we got a bunch of Great Looks and those shots didn’t go in and by the time that happened that that lead kept building uh again you have to

Give them credit they did a heck of a job of packing the paint making it physical and tough on Paulo and and and I think what happens in that situation and go back to it again if if you’re not knocking those shots down to spread the

Defense out a little bit it’s it becomes tough Paul Anthony played about seven minutes is is he healthy what led to that yeah that thigh you know that that that right thigh contusion uh kind of flared up on him again how much do you think your team missed him on in the

Second half or when he wasn’t on the court you know when you’re down bodies you you you need as many as you can have in in those moments and and so you know it’s tough but you know you got to give our guys credit in that second half the

Eight guys that came out there and played they gave everything they had you win the second half you fight the right way but again you got to give Minnesota a ton of credit they are the number one team in the west four reason uh because

They defend at a high level uh they have guys that can make shots and they the the matchups become tough in certain areas I know you don’t want to use injuries as an excuse and and the guys guys did fight as you say but but how

Much is there a wear and tear on on especially someone like Pao who’s having to carry such a such a huge creation burden with all the injuries that you guys have been facing over the last week well like I told the group in there you know what they they they they battled in

Sacramento they battled in Denver they came back and battled and it’s tough to come home on a road trip you know you know playing Atlanta and getting that one and doing that with basically eight bodies you know it does take its toll but it’s not an excuse the guys aren’t

Looking for excuses but again we’ll be better uh coming out against Miami and you know it’s just a day of rest will be good for our guys the guys that are sick the guys that are banged up it’ll be good to get more bodies back in you know healthy

Just a second game back 13 minutes tonight un limited action for Markell again able to kind of get on the scoreboard kind of get some of those Jitters out but how do you assess you know him moving forward especially his offensive game getting really back into the rhythm of everything I think we’ll

Have to look at a couple more games before I can fully assess what that looks like I mean I know they talk about it you know analytically it’s like a small sample size and this is a very small sample size and basically you know 27 minutes of of of play and second

Question to that really quickly though is um he missed out on a couple jumpers look like he kind of hesitated a little bit that’s something that you want to see him as of right now early on continue to take those jumpers even if he’s missing just to kind of get his

Confidence level up well I just think he he’s going to continue to read and take what the game gives you and and I think because of the length of this team you know being able to we weren’t making a lot of shots early so him coming down

And casting another shot you know is something that he’s reading in the game he gets in the Gap and then he finds and penetrates in the gaps to find other guys which is one thing he’s great at and so I think being able to read the

Game in one sense but also so knowing what the flow of that game is happening thank you coach thank you guys obviously they’re the best team in the West for for a reason but what did you see as as the reason they were able to to get up early tonight against you guys

And really pull away um yeah of course you got to give them a ton of credit I think they’re playing a great season um they’re super active defensively they obviously have some um very tall people out there um they create a lot of Havoc um but honestly

We made it a little harder on ourselves than we than we could have and I think that’s kind of part of the growing process um good thing is uh we play again in three days did they make it in the paint tonight on both ends I mean shoot

36% um then obviously like I said uh you got to give them a ton of credit defensively um yeah but again I I usually I I don’t I worry about us when we lose I worry about us when we win uh I don’t really look at the opponent as much um and I

Think we did it a little harder on ourselves than we could have you mentioned a few times how how you guys made it harder on yourselves how how do you feel like you guys made it harder on yourselves was it you know the turnovers was it missing those

Missing shots early honestly I don’t think um turnovers 12 Turners was pretty good um I think uh we didn’t play with the Pace that we wanted to I don’t think we were active enough defensively to create turnovers to go out and run um crashing we weren’t as aggressive and

Just overall we kind of lacked energy a little bit and that’s what we do you know we probably not the best shooting team in the league so we got to create Havoc we got to be the ones that bring the energy the juice and we didn’t really do

That what’s your what’s your mindset when you play against players like cat you know next game you got to play against bam out bio I mean these are some dogs what goes to your head how do you prepare for these type of players I mean seriously I’m this is the NBA

Honestly what comes with that is being super grateful that I’m allowed to to be out there um it’s really cool to play against players like that and you got to prepare that for it but um I ain’t losing no sleep over it it’s just part of uh what we do here and

Um yeah it’s awesome well uh you you know you mentioned trying to find trying to find the energy today with with all the absence and all the injuries I know you guys don’t want to use that as an excuse but but how much is that kind of wearing

On you guys with the minutes load and and and just everyone having to kind of kind of Step Up and and play a bigger role it’s not it’s um we got 15 guys everybody goes through the same stuff it’s part of a 82 Game season it’s not um like you said it’s

Not Mo can you take us back to last night the experience watching your Alma moer win and now that you’re in another sport um is that that is that kind of is that motivating you know towards a championship you know they work hard you guys work hard there any parallels there

Wow I mean sure um watching champions win it’s always great um regardless of the sport but um it’s kind of like a transition topic now obviously but and kind of hard to talk about after you just loose by 30 um but uh I got to college when Harbor got there too um so

To kind of see the last nine years I think it’s been um which is crazy um it’s cool to see this development of the program and I always talk about being here for a while and kind of being part of something bigger than yourself and you can really see how that program has

Developed and defined itself over the years and that’s really cool to see and I’m very privileged um that I could attend that University and obviously makes me very happy that they won yesterday Jaylen I saw you grabbing your hamstring during the game how’s that feeling I’m good that’s fine and you

Know the first two years you you were battling through injuries and luckily you’ve been able to to stay on the court a lot um this season but do you think that the amount of games that you’re playing and now that so many of your teammates have gotten down is that toll

Kind of is that is that kind of taking its toll that you’ve played all these games now and now that you you know you’re still halfway through the year uh no I don’t think it’s taking his toll um I think that’s like Mo said it’s just

Part of this business we you know we sign up knowing we’re playing 82 hopefully playing some um you know as you get uh past April and into play out basketball so um I mean I haven’t got to do this so like for as for as tough as

It is uh you know for for the days that you’re tired um you know you can take it for granted uh because I had the days where I couldn’t go get on the court you know I couldn’t get better I couldn’t be around the team so um yeah no it’s not

Taking a toll um it’s part of life uh part of battling every day um and uh yeah just kind of got to stay at it uh continue to do the things um you know practice with the training staff to stay available and um and keep hooping with

The boys Mo you mentioned at the beginning that every game you guys play is a part of the growing process for this team what role does even a really tough loss like this play in that and I just love both your perspective on that how is this this game maybe part of that

Growing process it’s funny that you ask that because I got the same question a couple weeks ago and uh it was cool my answer because we were winning and the answer stays the same even when we’re losing um I’m excited to go to practice tomorrow with this group um I appreciate

These days just as much as wins it’s just part of uh you’re not going to win a championship in a week or a day um this is a long-term project this is a long-term mindset uh and these matter just as much as the wins um and it’s not

As a cool of an answer if you don’t win nine in a row but it’s the same stuff it’s um it’s kind of boring but that’s kind of what we live for uh Jaylen um mo mo mentioned having to try and find some energy in the game

You guys had that 12 run I think both of both of you are actually part of that 120 run in the third quarter that kind of got the energy going a little bit in in the building you know even even in a game like this how important are those

Moments to just kind of find find that little spur and and and and kind of spark a little bit of some little bit of something in this team oh it’s very important because again like it’s another chance to get better and play basketball whether you win or lose um we

Get to come out here and continue to grow as a unit and I think we responded really well I mean we come out we win the second half like you know so for as bad as it felt for as heavy as it felt and we came out we responded when we

Were down 30 and could have you know set forget it you know not playing hard you know want to make that that extra kick pass you know I want to shoot my shot don’t want to rotate um you know the one more man on defense uh we came out and

We did all those things and we won the second half you got to look at a glass half full um you know and take these opportunities as blessings because that’s what they are we’re waking up we get to come play basketball get to be around a great group of guys and it

Don’t get no better than that so in wins and losses yeah like you said it stays the same I mean we’re unit we’re a family and we’re going to go Laugh Tomorrow get better and uh and Life Goes On yeah and I think we all love the

Camar camaraderie that you guys have um when so when so many people are out right now being hurt do you feel like do you feel responsible to have to step up as a leader and kind of you know take some load help Paulo step up and maybe

Get a couple more shots or looks for other people uh I don’t think I feel any of that I just come out and try to do my job and stay solid um I got a lot of trust in these guys I see him put the

Work in every day from Ab TQ Kell um it’s great to have him back uh moit who been playing Amazing um you know we’re all around each other every day and so I see the progression and the growth from everybody so I don’t feel the need to

Make a home run player you know to come in and do something extraordinary uh you know on these nights I come in do my job do what asked and uh and play winning basketball and um some days it works out some days it doesn’t that’s the grind of

This league and that’s why we play 82 games so that you can have nights like this you can throw away keep it pushing and uh keep smiling man Jaylen um coach said that you’re a top five player in defense at the pregame how do you evaluate your own

Season at this time you said what what was the last part play how do you evaluate U your season at this time um I think I’ve done pretty well um you know there’s definitely areas to improve um you know I want to handle the ball better I want to become better

Decisionmaking and and pick and roll and um in my patience when I’m getting down there in the pain things like that um so there’s definitely areas of growth um but I mean I’ve been available uh which which is the best part and you know for as however well everything else is going

I’ve been available and I’ve been been able to play with these guys um you know and that’s something that I was missing you know for two years you know partly on myself and partly uh you know that’s just how life Works um so to be to be available to keep playing to keep

Growing um and having a chance to get better um you know it’s been a blessing and uh yeah we’re going to keep doing that keep smiling man and uh yeah we’re throw we throwing this one away throwing this one away we going to keep working thanks I appreciate y’all

  1. The roster construction is not good. Magic training department is horrible. Injuries all across the board at this clip is not normal.

  2. The magic’s got this! Im confident they’ll bounce back like always push even harder for friday. Thank you guys for working so hard, lets go magic

  3. After a game like that you can see a young team lose their soul. But not this team. Mental strength is one quality this young team has in spades.
