Mike Conley And Rudy Gobert Are PERFECT For The Timberwolves…

Mike Conley And Rudy Gobert Are PERFECT For The Timberwolves…

Welcome to another hows and growls breakdown today we’re talking about Mike connley and Rudy goar’s empty corner pick and roll game as Minnesota were blasting Portland out of the park in a fairly uneventful win it was hard not to admire what those two do together every night and how they’ve helped reshape the

Timberwolves franchise with not only their veteran presence but their consistent dominance working together within the offense Minnesota’s offense isn’t always smooth but when Conley and go are on the floor this team is an elite offense as well as the obvious Defensive Juggernaut that they always

Are when both of them are on the court for Minnesota the Wolves score 119.7 points per 100 possessions which is 3.4 points above League average but when one or both of them aren’t on the court Minnesota scored just 108.9 points per 100 possessions a number that is a whopping 7.3 points per

100 below League average and a lot of that offensive boost comes from their empty Corner dominance and really that’s Minnesota’s most consistent form of offense so you see it here in this game Conley and go are working out of the empty corner all of their teammates have

Cleared out over here so they can work in that corner this time Portland are hedging the screen so both Defenders are up on Conley that means it’s going to be a pass so Conley Zips this through this little pocket of space and go is narrowly avoiding the low man help to

Finish at The Rim Conley always reading the defensive coverage and then adjusting his passes and his attacks perfectly is what makes this partnership so hard for defenses to shut down because the defense has to play Two on Two in those empty Corner actions there is no room for error on the pick and

Roll defense if that big Defender is is going to push up on them that’s going to leave too much space for goar to roll into and that’s going to be very hard to stop even on a possession like this where Pascal sakam stays here in help after Alexander Walker clears out to

Empty that corner Conley is going to manipulate the defense into losing that defensive possession he gets all the way down here instead of hitting go early now all three of those Defenders are stuck on connley while go dips in behind them and it’s the lob pass instead of

That little pocket pass through the defense and at other times Conley will just reject that screen in order to crumble the hedging defense you see the Defenders come up here to pressure Conley so he rejects the screen now both of those Defenders are crowding Conley so that leaves this little drop back

Pass to go who’s open with a lane to the rim and what makes Mike Conley valuable is that he’s very willing and very capable of making shots in a variety of ways when the defense overplays go be that’s important because it keeps the defense honest if they were able to Sag

Off Conley and focus solely on defending go that would stifle the entire empty Corner action on this possession Dallas is pushing Defenders up to trap Conley coming off that pick while the Lowman is pushing all the way over here to get into the path of goar’s roll there’s no

Pass there but there is a lane for Conley to get into and finish at The Rim and he’s shooting a career high 62.3% at The Rim this season so he’s actually making those looks count a lot and that hedging or up to touch defense is actually the best way to defend this

Action as soon as teams start using drop coverage to defend the Conley and go empty pick and roll that’s when it starts to really feel impossible to stop hey guys just interrupting this video quickly to tell you about fruity flly fers a local Minnesota Brand who

Love the wolves like we love the Wolves their clothing is simple and it’s fun and it’s perfect for wolves fans if you buy two of their black teas you get a free random black tea just for supporting how and DRS so head over to fruity flyers.com get your te’s and use

The code how and grows at checkout for a free random black tea so when defenses don’t come up Colley is going to punish them with his outside shot again he’s going to read the coverage and make his decisions from there and when he does pull up from three he’s shooting

45.2% on pull-up 3es the third highest among all players that are shooting more than two pull-up threes a game you see here as soon as the corner clears and he can go into his Corner action it’s all about this Defender because he doesn’t come up here to meet Conley he’s giving

Him way too much room to get that shot off and Conley is a especially effective in that Twan game when he rejects the screen underneath the drop coverage so he gets this Defender ducking under the screen like this then he reverses back into the open space the defender just

Vacated and it ends up being a wide open three and that’s virtually a layup for Conley again adabo is in drop and hero wants to go under the screen here and beat Conley to the spot but that allows Conley this huge space and goar is such

A good res Ena so he can pivot into another screen to wall off hero and help create that space and when Conley sees that the on ball Defender is going to get through goar’s screen he’s going to go back into his playmaking bag with goar on the roll again it’s all about

How the defense handles the screen and that’s going to determine what Conley does and what goar does when they’re coming out of that ball screening action so Fox is going to get through this screen and that means will get into the paint he will wait until sabonis gets

Stuck between him and go and then float this lob over sabonis his head and again you see this against all types of defenses and all types of teams and you see it again in this possession psky gets through this screen so Conley just draged shich in enough to open up the

Lob over his head to go be what you are seeing is the same empty Corner set up every time but different results coming from different ways of Defending and different reads from go and especially Mike Conley with the ball in his hands and while it’s Anthony Edwards and KL

Anthony towns who were the spearheads for Minnesota’s offense with their ability to put up big numbers the Timberwolves offense just doesn’t work consistently if they don’t have this action to fall back on when things start to tighten up for ant and cat so Mike Conley is a genius Rudy go has pulled

The Timberwolves out of the fire season and you should subscribe to how and GRS if you want more content like this

The Wolves have stars, but they’re where they are today because of these two.

  1. Grateful this team has a fan as dedicated as yourself providing top quality breakdowns 👍🏼 well done

  2. The energy on Portland's bench reminded me of ours during the dark days of the wolves, the game last night didn't even feel like anything more than a preseason game. Not at any point during that game do I feel like either team gave it 100%, we ran our actions and showed up to play, but you can tell the energy is different when we play a "G league" level team. It's really nice having the strength of schedule drop a bit though, I feel like folks were judging us saying we're "first round exits" after playing the toughest schedule in the NBA 40% of the way through.

  3. Another insightful video. It’s obvious . . . once you see it. “Empty-corner” offense. Another new term for me. I never would’ve seen it you hadn’t shown me. Good stuff.

I was just getting ready to go shovel snow, but then I saw a new H&G video had dropped, so gave me an excuse to procrastinate a bit longer. 🙂

  4. Sure Antman and KAT are the stars of the team, Gobert and mcdaniels are the best Defensive duo. But Mike Conley is the most important player among 5starters, discipline, experience, playmaking, defense, and attitude. Complete fit and glue guy

  5. Any average fan should watch this to better see and understand how Gobert screens are a HUGE game changer for the team offence, it is so often over-looked
