Coach Taylor Jenkins Press Conference | Knicks vs. Grizzlies

Coach Taylor Jenkins Press Conference | Knicks vs. Grizzlies

Our guys competed tonight um you know battle in the first uh half obviously third quarter you know a few too many turnovers that kind of led to their run and and their ability to get back in the game uh and take a lead but loved the ball movement obviously guys playing

Different roles and you know we just stressed you know just sharing the rock 0 five basketball 27 assists and we could have had way more obviously we had tons of Great Looks that didn’t fall time shot 23% from the three-point line um but the fight that our guys had you

Know did some different things playing big playing small um had drop coverage had switching coverage and we scrapped you know obviously they hurt us on the boards you know uh we knew that was going to be a prior of the game that that definitely hurt us um but overall

Loved how our guys competed for the full 48 minutes uh had a chance there you know make a run but just couple you know made shots for them late in the fourth that that kind of created that separation but loved how our guys competed tonight Tyler what were your early

Impressions on you know GG Jackson getting his first kind of extended play time with the Grizzlies uh with you I know you mentioned wanted to see some things defensively from him today so he scored 20 points just what were your impressions of what he brought today yeah took took advantage of the

Opportunity love that he had you know six rebounds um you know there’s going to be some things to clean up defensively on ball off ball um his alertness and all that um but I thought he tried to play the game the right way obviously scored 20 20 points but he

Moved the ball even though it was maybe not directly to an assist but tried to you know uh get into the you know teeth of the defense um Kick outs on top of the scoring uh was impressive but he played with a lot of confidence on both

Sides of the floor so uh loved what he uh did tonight you know he’s been working hard for this opportunity took full advantage of the opportunity and obviously you know there’ll be hopefully more to come uh when you can continue to play that way keep getting better

Defensively be an impact player on the ball rotations you know clean that up a little bit more rebounding just with his sides and athleticism something that I think he can be really good at and offensively just play Within you know the flow of the offense the driving

Kicks space the floor um you know just take what the defense gives you I thought it was a good step in the right direction getting his first you know you know I think true NBA minutes hey coach I know it’s no executions but uh did you

Guys just run out of gas in the fourth quarter did just have the energy to make that last charge yeah I thought our guys were competing it’s just uh you know you got to give the Knicks credit they grinded it out you know they had some you know tough shots late in possessions

Um we try to get out and move the ball um their pressure defense hurt us you know a couple of possessions in the fourth quarter getting in some enturies um you know we we missed a couple shots too had a couple of you know turnovers there uh you know playing in crowds so

Um our guys were were battling you know even know second eye of the back toback and guys stepping up different roles these guys competed hard um just came up a little bit short um Taylor so uh yall finish with 14 steals uh forced the Knicks into 22

Turnovers just what really stood out to you with the defensive execution tonight yeah when we were when we were pressuring on the ball um there were there were some lapses there when we were in our switching defense they came up came off comfortably whether it was

The Handler or the roller but when we were jamming up on screens and impacting the ball um and then we had great rotations on the backside you can see our swarm defense that allowed us to get a number of steals whether it was a bad pass turnover a deflection um you know

That’s that’s what kind of led to that you know uh 23 turnover Mark so uh we got to keep leaning on that you know I kept challenging the guys in the first half at halftime that when we have pressure defense whether we were going zone or we were in our switch defense um

How we applied pressure was going to dictate some of our rotations as well um and when we weren’t to that level you know obviously the Knicks made the plays but overall um you know was pretty impressive to turn a team over you know 23 times that has pretty good execution on

Offense great thanks everybody

  1. Knicks players knew we had no one who can handle the rock or knew how to shoot. An the one person who could dribble the ball with out losing it is about 5ft tall an not a offensive threat.

  2. It's amazing that when this clown use to try to explain why Lofton Jr. didn't play he would scream "defense defense" and now when talking about GG Jackson (should have started, played 40 minutes, and attempted 25 shots) he brings up his defense, yet guys like Santi Aldama, David Roddy, and Ziarie Williams who are ALL HORRIBLE defensively have played A LOT from the moment they stepped off the plane in Memphis. I'm sick of this BUM being the head coach of the Grizzlies.
