POSTCAST – Utah Jazz look to continue winning ways v. Los Angeles Lakers

The Utah Jazz win their fifth straight their eighth straight at home and they’re 11th of their last 13 continuing the hot streak and they do it this time beating the Lakers and beating the Lakers is awesome even if LeBron doesn’t play we’re talking about it next on

Postcast you are locked on Jazz your daily podcast on the Utah Jazz part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day David lock along with Ron buonas the Utah Jazz kind of workmanlike 135 132 125 win over the Los Angeles Lakers tonight workmanlike in the sense

They trailed at the got had a hard time getting going in the first half allow first quarter allowed 39 points they were doubling ad but the Lakers were hitting a bunch of Threes Lakers went five of 10 from three in the first and then the Jazz cut it to three by the

Half had a bunch of chances to knock it out they stretch the lead they get the lead to five in the first first uh at the end of the third quarter and then they uh take their largest lead in the fourth quarter by 12 the Lakers played

Anthony Davis 39 minutes that night and D’Angelo Russell 41 without LeBron James they tried to do everything they could but the Jazz in their usual fashion as has become the way Lowry Markin in plays 33 Jordan Clarkson plays 31 nobody plays fewer than 15 or maybe Walker played 13

And a balanced effort across the board tonight uh was a bunch of standouts but a workmanlike performance that R it really was and you could just see that the Lakers did not put the Jazz away when Reed was hot D’Angelo Russell was hot uh they were knocking down threes

And the Jazz was continue to hang in there uh I think the mostly were down in that that first half was 10 something like that and and but they’re just not a very good basketball team I don’t think right now all right there’s no there’s only one way the Lakers beat people and

That’s to have a free throw dis uh discrepancy in their advantage asks uh the Toronto Raptor head coach the Jazz are we going to win if the Jazz are going to win this game they’re going to do a two ways they’re going to hit more threes in the Lakers and they’re going

To get more offensive rebounds in the Lakers well the Jazz did get more offensive rebounds they got 13 the Lakers seven because the Lakers are not a good offensive rebounding team and the Jazz are and the Jazz did not hit more threes they both the Lakers hit 13 the

Jazz hit 12 so the way the Jazz won this game tonight is they took 39 free throws against the Lakers and the Lakers took just 24 and the unlikely person probably I don’t know Lori 11 you know because he doesn’t drive to the basket that much he’s more

Of a catch and shoot three Colin seon yes you know he’s going to have nights where he can get to the free throw on that that often but uh only eight free throws for Jordan Clarkson who you would think as hard as he drives to the basket

As much contact as he takes trying to finish at The Rim would have had a few more but wasn’t the case tonight Jasco 36 of 39 at the line Lowry goes 10 of 11 Colin goes 10 of 10 Clarkson goes eight of eight and Keon six of six really this

Is a night where the Jazz won the game at the free throw line aggressively driving Anthony Davis is one who you would think would be one that would preclude you from being willing to go to the rim and attack like that uh he did not seem to have the largest defensive

Uh impact on this game well they kept him away from the basket you know if he’s guarding L Markin he has to keep away from the basket so he has no way of Defending you know unless he gets switched on someone but uh I think that

Was that was a key there and he’s not one of those guys that’s aggressive out on the perimeter um but you know if you’re not protecting the rim or you don’t if they don’t put you in a position where you can protect the rim by switching one through five or

Whatever they’re doing but uh just way it is that’s one where we should really give John Collins some credit because John Collins starts tonight hits a bunch of Threes early in the the ball game goes three of I think four from three tonight those are in seven of nine

Overall that those are plays where Anthony Davis is trying to stay in the middle of the lane John Collins hits those threes because they’re not guarding him that has a lasting impact on the game and youer will talk about that quite a bit by putting John Collins at the center position that creates

Space and you can either drive to the basket and make some things happen but it also means that the the the center has to come out and try to defend uh Collins who can shoot the three-point shot incidentally uh he knocked down a couple of above the break threes when

That corner three is probably his best his best shot all right the key of the night is curtailing Anthony Davis how did they do it number one is Anthony Davis gets two field goals a night in transition he usually gets two or three field goals a night in offensive

Rebounding he did not get those tonight he got one offensive rebound put back on a free throw and he got one he got zero transition the other thing is Anthony Davis is just not a very good shooter he is a 44 45% shooter in the paint non-restricted area and he’s a 31%

Shooter on Long twos tonight he goes one of nine in the paint non-restricted one of seven on long tues and he missed his one three for a total of two of 177 on anything outside of the restricted area that was the key to the basketball game from a jazz standpoint

Because Anthony Davis was going to have to go off without LeBron James to carry them back yeah and he’s one of those players that is much better with a LeBron James on the floor or a guy that can be the first option um Anthony Davis is is not that

Guy Anthony Davis had 15 points 15 rebounds 11 assists but five of 21 give credit to Markin and Collins a little bit of Kessler tonight as well on the defense there for the Jazz uh getting that done Keon George tonight 19 points three of three uh three points three

Rebounds it’s a second half combination of for Keon as he got rolling tonight uh what did you see out of Keon because I thought he had an aggressiveness that we haven’t totally seen out of he had eight points in the third quarter tonight he got to close the game he had another

Nine points in the fourth quarter 17 in the second half tonight for Keon he’s not hesit he’s not hesitating to to to to play basketball to to shoot the basketball to drive to the basket I mean on the offensive EV now will might say something about some mistakes you make

Defensively but he’s got to be pleased with the way keante is is uh playing his game offensively and you know he ends up getting how many shots he to get off the only 11 shots and comes up with 19 points very efficient uh in the time and

Was able to close the game in the fourth quarter will hardy pregame tonight talked about some of the voices that have begun to materialize or emerge out of this team he talked about Chris Dunn that Chris Dunn always that a loud voice but he didn’t really have a place to

Voice it because he wasn’t playing so Chris dun has become a starter he now has a louder voice but that voice has ignited a voice from Colin Saxton and then John Collins and Kelly Al linck were singled out for their work working with younger players and helping them

Kind of uh emerge and understand the voice of Colin sexon both in his actions and evidently his words is become a signature of this basketball team this kid is he has turned this franchise around we we he may be the single reason this team turned around I I’ve been

Trying to avoid single reasons because I think it’s been a combination of so many different things but frankly Colin seon got put in the starting lineup D Jordan Clarkson’s injury and that changed the year he’s incredibly efficient for a guard he’s one of the most efficient

Guards in the league he’s able to go to the free throw line he’s going he’s shooting threes now what’ he take tonight he took uh four threes tonight I don’t care they only made one of them he he’s taking them that’s what matters he went to the line 10 times there aren’t

Many guards to go to the line 10 times this kid has changed his team yeah he’s really changed it because now uh he’s not sharing the and even though we did see him on the floor tonight with with uh for a moment there with with Clarkson

And SE out there on the floor together but he’s not sharing that position and and that position meaning you know wh which one of us is a playmaker uh and which one of us is the shooting guard you know that that type of thing so it’s it’s Chris Dunn it’s doesn’t need the

Basketball he doesn’t require the basketball uh and will has some great things to say about him before the ball game but that you know he just he just plays basketball out there John Collins was a plus minus mess for the Utah Jazz there for a while plus 19 tonight he has looked

Better and more comfortable in the last five games I I think I shared this I rode the elevator with him in Philadelphia and he just kind of said to me like it it just took a lot longer than I expected but I feel way more comfortable than I would otherwise deari

Carols by the way kids are running down the stairs giving him big hugs right now it’s a CEST thing I’ve seen for former jazz man um I what do you think has changed for John Collins because he he really he really looks like he’s playing

As a part of the group in a productive part of the group in a manner that wasn’t always the case earlier this year you know that’s that’s so hard to say I I don’t see a huge change I just see him getting better at what he was

Doing up there on the p on the offensive end uh he gets good looks because of the the way the teams defending guys like lri and maybe Colin seon or something like that or or when he’s playing the center position uh the centers don’t want to come out there and defending so but

Defensively um I think the Zone has really helped him defensively in keeping him out of the own the floor all right this is not easy tonight I have I think it’s easy well keante we both agree on oh absolutely okay so we both agree Keon deserves to start and and I think colins

Seon the other all right that’s where I would have gone yeah thought John Collins larking we really could have gotten some mentions from you there well give them a mention but they’re not the starts Colin seon and Colin Saxton and keonte George tonight are the stars that

Was evidently really easy I didn’t think it was going to be that easy I thought it was going to be a little bit more uh but gon discussion and debate I was gonna go to Craig bolerjack and ask his opinion then I was gonna go

To thurl but M by the way some guy just said I shouldn’t stand next to you because it makes me look homeless cuz you’re wardrobe is so good that I look homeless when I sit next to you that’s what one of the the shat guys said this want to let you

  1. What a game. Thanks for a great post cast. It just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t mention what a terrific job Rowe did with Keyonte and then Alema and Mike after the game. She looked absolutely awesome doing it too. I love Holly.

  2. Let's not forget the great coaching job Will Hardy is doing. Utah has always played basketball the right way. No ego's, high I.Q and team oriented approach. I love watching this team. Utah represents what the NBA should be. About basketball. Not social media and nonsense.

  3. I think a neat thing about the guard lineup is that with sexton being a shooter/creater, paring him up with Dunn, a “non shooter/defense guard. So they work well together. Clarkson with Keyonte, a non shooter/offensive guard pairs well together cause Clarkson can play make and shoot, while keyonte is there for the backup firepower. No one cancels each other out, and everyone complements each other. Cohesion.

Then we have John Collin, an offensive spacer center. And then Kessler for our defensive minded player. Play them when you need one of the other. Fontecchio, Lauri, and ochai are our switchblades that are capable of doing defense and offense at the same time and can rotate and play with whatever the guard lineup is. And Kelly is the dude/man/passer/glue piece. Everything, no matter the lineups. Work. 240 minutes at damn near perfect(for a rebuild team) imagine what this team could do with another top 20 guy and some more years under their belt. The jazz don’t need many more players. Just time and another baller.

  4. I know that the Jazz are still building but I wish they would let this group finish the Season
