Since today is MLK Day, who remembers when the Clippers put Blake Griffin on a t-shirt with MLK and other icons in order to persuade him to re-sign in 2017 😂

Internet in disbelief over Clippers’ T-shirt of Blake Griffin with MLK, Gandhi, Ali, more

Oh man was the Clipper’s franchise ridiculed for this back in the day, and only for them to trade Blake later on in the year 🤣

  1. I’m sure teams do a lot of whacky shit that feed into players’ egos to recruit them in free agency.

Just off the top of my head:

    – Chicago doing a recruitment video for Dwyane Wade featuring Oprah Winfrey

    – The Knicks making a “lost episode” of the Sopranos where the stars of the show helped LeBron find a place to live

    – The Phoenix Suns selling LaMarcus Aldridge on signing with them by signing an 100-year old Tyson Chandler and bringing Chandler into their meeting with LMA as the “big reveal”

wasn’t it like an inside joke with Neal Brennan or something?

  4. It’s like the kind of shirt you get at a barmitzvah

What is that shirt even supposed to represent?

It depicts a very random group of people that have little to do with each other.

i think the pitch itself wasnt so bad but trading him after was crazy and made it look wild. but they needed to do that for assets lol

Resign him then bounce his ass to Detroit.

  9. LOL. The co-opting of movements – and the figures tied to those movements – for commercial purposes never ceases to amaze me in America. From the Juneteenth Ice Cream Flavor, Juneteenth sales (“unchain yourself from the oppression of high prices!”), 9/11 tributes to sell cheese plates… America and our systems to make a buck have no limit to how low we’ll go.

  10. Where does one find this shirt if they want it? Asking for a friend

Been trying to get one of these shirts since I found out about it

Getting rid of him when they did was the best move possibly in franchise history.

The Clippers really don’t get enough flack for their campaign to get Blake to re-sign before trading him to Detroit less than one month later. All-time grimey move.

MLB, but it’s probably impossible to top Kobe pitching Ohtani on the Dodgers 3 years after his death.

Very prescient of them to predict that in the future Blake Griffin and MLK would be viewed with equal esteem.

In hindsight though it was absolutely the right decision to move off of of Blake. It’s crazy that his productive years ended before CP3s
