Why?
Posturing, it’s a matter of when not if he gets traded. Portland is rebuilding, they don’t need to be giving a 30 year old minutes while their first round pick rots on the bench.
Makes sense. No reason to trade him unless we get blown away by an offer
edit: I hope none of the people begging for Grant to be traded are also the ones that had a meltdown about how shit the team was this last week
There’s just a bigger market for Brogdon. We are rebuilding. It doesn’t need to happen overnight. Don’t sell low on Grant just for the sake of trading him.

Grant is a good player, not worth trading (yet), and he’s not holding anyone’s development back.
That’s what I expected. Brogdon’s presence is having us play a lot of three guard lineups and trading him would free up playing time for our guards who need it and/or play bigger lineups more often
Grant isn’t really “in the way” of anyone who *needs* to play more right now. Kris Murray and Rayan Rupert I’m sure the Blazers are fine with taking their time developing via the Remix still. And it’s still good to have a veteran leader on a young team
He either gets traded at the deadline or in the off-season. It’s all about the offers.
There is a high possibility if we ship him this year the team goes from dreadful to downright unwatchable. Unless there is an offer that is too good to refuse just ride him out and explore options in the off-season.
So I should delete all my grant trades on fanspo then?
If a team seriously wanted Grant, I don’t know why we wouldn’t give him up. He’s about to turn 30 and has a massive contract. I’d rather get out from it now than have an awful contract on the books when we’re extending Sharpe and Scoot
My assumption is that the purpose of this report is to drive up his value/signal that we aren’t about to give him up for cheap. We don’t need to trade him now, and it puts interested teams in a position to over-bid to get us to move.

I understand that Brogdon is a guard that takes minutes away from our best prospects. However, I think Brogdon arguably has more of an impact as a veteran than Grant does. I have seen Brogdon compete defensively vs bigger players, defer to our guards while spotting up on 3, create only when he needs to while playing lesser minutes. Plus, Brog has said all along that he DIDN’T want to get traded and wanted to stay here to share valuable input to a rebuilding team.
I don’t think we can keep him, but I almost would rather keep Brog than Grant because I think he helps the team develop more on and off the court.
I really hope we trade both though. I loved watching them both come in and play great + embrace the team/city. But I think we need our young players to get valuable reps and I think Billups does better with a team of young guys without expectations. When Billups has to try to incorporate young guys and vets, everyone gets lost in trying to balance that. Everyone starts deferring and using our vets like a crutch and just watch them iso.
if Siakam gets traded, then I think teams would be interested in Grant even more. He will get paid less than Siakam and is the way better shooter. No where near the overall player but I think teams would appreciating a 6’8 wing that can shoot from 40+ from 3 if they have the size to compensate for his lack of rebounding. Kings make the best fit in my opinion!
His reluctance to be even a fart in the wind on the boards really hurts the team. Hope this is just posturing in an attempt to raise his value.
Feel like that’s what most people (myself included) have been saying. Brogdon has 2 years left on a contract size that is easier to trade, is outside our window of competing and plays guard which is our deepest position where we have guys who need to develop.
Grant is on a much longer contract at a higher price point which wouldn’t be as easy to flip. The team also committed to him knowing there was a very good chance Dame would be out so yeah makes sense they won’t just ditch him. He plays PF which has the least depth right now. I feel that yes we’re bad now but trading Grant would make us BAD. Like all of our young guys would be playing less valuable minutes vs backups in blowout losses every game. We likely wouldn’t have as many close games this season without Grant. As we get further into his contract and more and more guys sign extensions and the average contract size goes up, Grant will be easier to trade away for just 1 or 2 players + picks. Or we start to contend by the end of his contract and we have a really good F/wing already under contract along with a lot of younger high level players we’ve drafted.
And this isn’t really a draft where there’s an absolute stud you need to get at #1 so I’m not upset if we win here and there games and end up with the #3-#5 pick when we could’ve had a better shot at #1 had we been worse than we are now without Grant.
Which is exactly what the local folks who cover the team, are at all the games, all the pressers, in locker room, etc., have been saying all along.
Kevin Huerter would be interesting for sure
