I always believed that the entire Cough Gate was a misunderstanding and that Wade and LeBron were annoyed at the media about Dirk’s cough more than the actual basketball games.
That Finals was a click bait gold mine and everybody was looking to minimize everything the Heat did because nobody outside of Miami was rooting for them. And I’m pretty sure Wade said as much after Dirk’s initial response back then when he was like, “We played this up because y’all (the media) make a big deal out of everything and sure enough you did.”
It kinda sounded like that’s what he explained here? I’m not sure.

Wade 06 Finals: Wade 11 Finals: 35/8/4 on 57% TS
Dirk 06 Finals: 23/10/3 on 53% TS.
Wade 11 Finals: 27/7/5 on 61% TS
Dirk 11 Finals: 26/10/2 on 54% TS.
It wasn’t even close imo. In my opinion Dirk’s ridiculous longevity gives him the edge as a better player all time, but Wade’s peak was far ahead of his- and I say this as a Heat fan.
