Iirc it was Davis and skal that were highly touted at the pf position in that draft range

  2. People were screaming for Skal. I will never trust any draft advice given by redditors. None of them know any shit and most are just following whatever ESPN feeds them

People will read this and still believe analysts that this is a “weak draft”. Analysts can’t get anything right outside the lottery. They’re barley right about lottery picks eg Scottie Barnes.

Totally unrelated but glad we got 3 picks. Raptors org can make something out of that with our scouting and development program.

if Raps developed Deyonta Davis kid could have been a stud as well

This is why I’m not too bothered by the apparent weakness of this draft. Usually that means for top end, game changing talent but you can find production. Only 60 players every year get drafted, it would be crazy if excellent players didn’t come out of this year.

    “not a strong athlete”

Wasn’t athleticism one of his only strengths coming into the league?

  7. castlewise

In fairness, Deyonta was the blocks leader in the Japan league one year, so
..

    🙂

I remember me and my bro thought he would make a all rookie team cause he was starting early in the season with Sullinger being out (A blessing in disguise)

  9. OhSoManyThoughts

Same people who said Raptors should have taken Suggs over Scottie.

I’m on the first page of the RealGM “Raptors select Pascal Siakam” thread. I might even be the first reply, I forget.

In my post I’m on the verge of tears. The Raptors had 2 picks 9 (Poeltl) and 27 (Siakam). I wanted Skal at number 9, and by an absolute miracle he’s still there at 27.

The Raptors draft some guy I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of.

And we know how this places out, Skal doesn’t do much in the NBA and Pascal is an important part of a championship team and one of the best Raptors of all time.

The whole thing taught me not to be too invested in NBA prospects and just enjoy the ride

I liked the pick where it was . Athletic prospect guy masai prob had the inside track on from Africa.
    That draft I didn’t like Yak at 9 .
When we could have had sabonis

  12. Barnicus57

That’s how we all viewed Pascal, just like Jonas before him and (to a much lesser extent) Scottie when everyone was saying Suggs was the right pick.

None of us know anything, lol. So to frame this as some type of gotcha towards this writer when the entire fanbase wasn’t excited about the pick is very disingenuous.

Y’all should’ve seen the disrespect from some of the fans after the bubble playoffs and during the Tampa bay season, they was shitting on him nonstop

  14. motherseffinjones

Lmao remember the reaction to drafting Scottie Barnes. I laugh so hard when people say our FO can’t draft, like people expect perfect

  15. prodigus01

There are 1000’s of D1 prospects every year yet almost every mock draft has identical draft orders. Or they’ve narrowed down to the same top 60. How is that possible?

There is a lot of groupthink that goes on. Very few people have the capacity to watch and rank prospects legitimately. Most draft experts copy off each other and pretend to know they understand.

This sub is no different. They complain about Flynn but ignore the fact that they wanted Suggs over Barnes.

  16. dontnobodyknow

Same nephews who were crying about not drafting Suggs over Scottie.

  17. LabApprehensive5666

Ah yes hindsight is 20/20 these days. It’s not like we could have predicted either he would have the success and glory in Toronto as he accomplished. But these reporters and columnists for Forbes are scum balls themselves and don’t have much “between the ears”

  18. Mike_0405

Same grade when Raptors drafted Scottie over Suggs

  19. Chequedout

Terrible pick. Pascal doesn’t even play for the Raptors anymore.

  20. bustthelease

    Let’s draft some more “D’s”

  21. RealCanadianDragon

Draft grades mean nothing except to get people talking.

People can rip on moves the team makes at any point, but if it works out, suddenly they act like it was fine all along.

We had an undrafted nothing PG in FVV, a late 1st that people thought we were reaching on in Siakam (everyone wanted Skal), obviously everyone hated the Scottie pick too.

Welcome to sports. Some moves pay off like Siakam over Skal and Barnes over Suggs. Others don’t like Bruno.

  22. LetterheadForeign707

remember when espn gave our scottie pick a D+? where are the haters now?

  23. dickassman1973

What we have come to know is this – these supposed “experts” really don’t know shit.

  24. RonaldMcClown

This is just some guy at Forbes, where basketball isn’t even a priority. Who cares what they thought about a draft pick so low it was a crapshoot?

  25. I will never get tired of reading this pick grading. Gonna miss ya pascal. Devonta Davis
. “Who tha fook is that guy” (Connor McGergor voice).
