On the Mavs:
“The Mavs are another team looking for small forwards, with Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reporting they’re interested in Grant, Andrew Wiggins, PJ Washington, and Dorian Finney-Smith. The market for Tim Hardaway Jr., the most appealing asset they’re willing to part with, remains minimal. The Mavs are also said to have interest in Daniel Gafford, as they would like one more available big.”
However, in regard to Portland and Jerami Grant:
“Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report has reported that Jerami Grant doesn’t desire a trade and that the front office is not interested in such a deal. Now, why it is that Grant continues to be discussed routinely as a trade target for various teams if that’s the case is a mystery.”
and on DFS:
“It’s going to take at least one first to get Dorrian Finney Smith or Royce O’Neale.”

WCJ:
“Marc Stein has reported that they have explored moving Wendell Carter Jr. as well.
The latter note is a big deal; this is a market desperate for center help. After the mid-to-late 2010’s were dominated by smallball, every team knows they can’t survive without rim protection and size. WCJ is one of the better center defenders in the league with some offensive chops as well, but the Magic have been so incredibly good with Goga Bitazde, it’s opened up opportunities for them to move WCJ for a relative haul.”

Whether we manage to pull off a trade or not, it’s nice to see that the FO knows exactly what the needs are and is trying to improve those positions.
I still remember the “We like our guys” statements from Donnie when we had multiple huge and obvious holes, and not improving any of them, or trying to fix them with guys like Frank Ntilikina.

Surprise, surprise, still nobody wants THJ, the vaunted “3PT volume shooter” that every team supposedly needs, according to some fans… FWIW, I think Nico is a good GM and is going to be even better, but it sucks that he’s had to learn certain things on the job…
WCJ is not a good defender in the way we need. We need a lump. I wanted Goga for two years but as usual the Mavs arent ahead of the curve. Is there anyone beyond the NBA as the current prices are brutal.
Gafford would be amazing, he’s a perfect backup center for 20-22 minutes per game. He’s not a great rebounder or defender, he’s only 6’10 but he’s a good rim protector and a great p’n’r player on a friendly contract. Not sure what his value is, but i doubt a couple of seconds and holmes would get it done
