ESPN SC | Kendrick Perkins “Goes Crazy” Bucks DESTROY Celtics 135-102; Tatum and Brown suck 7-10 Pts

Welcome in Celtics post game live Scout Eddie House Amina Smith here with in the Celtics with a big loss to the Bucks 135 to 102 they Trail by 37 points at the half and pretty much this game was over in the first half but Scout I’ll start

With you how would you sum up this loss of the Bucks dang I mean if I sum it up right now how we going to get an hour of this show I mean you know like the mo the it’s more of a challenge for us to

Stretch this show for an hour than it is going to be to figure out what the Celtics need to do like the next game so sum it up 25 run at that point we never recover from that oh stretch that for another hour 25 run we never recovered

From that really we just didn’t have no resistance defensively and we just just looked a step slow Milwaukee had what three days off was it how many days they played on Monday Monday and got smoked the Jazz yeah so they played on Monday got smoked by the Jazz jannis called him

Out jannis called out the team the next day no Damien Lillard and they’re down by 30 at halftime so you could tell they’re stewing and they and you saw it and and amazing game for us last night but this was TNT trying to romanticize the Drew holiday coming back if they

Were really looking at it’ be like man I don’t know how a team is going to come in and and beat the bucks off a back to back like that well I don’t think they even expected Minnesota to be as good as Minnesota was too that maybe thought

That that was a gimme game and then you know is everybody’s going to gear up for that maybe rest guys on that game because Minnesota’s not that and that’s not just the case but you know we can’t talk about what happened last night what happened tonight was uh you know foot to

Backside you know I mean from the from the beginning I think it was 13- n at one point I was like okay cuz they started off fast Milwaukee started off fast and then from that point they just they just went to work and they knocked down shots we had zero resistance either

At The Rim uh we couldn’t guard the three-point line and everything went good it it just lined up perfect it was a perfect storm for Milwaukee to beat the Celtics the Celtics starters all together in this game only had 31 points and when it came out of the half Joe

Missoula benched all of the starters in the second half scal take me into the locker room like what is that conversation if you’re Joe Missoula when you come out bench your plays because of course we know they played in overtime last night against the best team in the

West but that’s no excuse to get beat like that where you’re down 37 points going into the second half so even going into the games they’re talking about the schedule schedule the schedule right so I think the the the conversation is listen we got two big games coming up

One on on Sat Sunday wait what day do we play Saturday Saturday one on Saturday one on Monday the schedule keeps going so guys it might be best for us just to wait wave the white flag on this one it happens even to the best of the best it

Shouldn’t happen too often but even I think if you go back I think the year we won the championship I I remember Utah coming into the building and just like really we had no we had no juice think we got off a West Coast Swing and we had

Nothing and our we it wasn’t as bad as this where we couldn’t play in the second half but this game right here the Celtics just said let’s live to fight another day but that’s what what you have to do I think in time especially in the times

Right because you have Al’s not playing tonight because it’s second night of back to back and you have to be real with yourself and I think that’s what Joe Joe was Joe Joe was real with it like okay guys you know that’s a really good ball Club over there we’re down 37

It’s going to take a lot for us to climb back in this game to be in it to have a chance not to climb back to win it but to climb back just to have a chance yeah and they’re going to be playing as hard

As they can to keep you from that you know what let’s just live to fight another day remember remember when we were in LA and we were talking I was like this is scheduling loss for the Clippers they had the back to back and then they flew into LA and then when you

Had that early start right It’s just sometimes the NBA you got to squeeze 82 games in there and once in a while there’s going to be something like this it doesn’t mean you could predict all this stuff like sometimes teams could say ah you know what we’re motivated

Like Minnesota flying in day of like they were just Ultra motivated that particular night but tonight it was a scheduling loss for us just like when we smacked the Clippers and we were up by 35 it was a scheduling loss for them that’s just how the league works at at

At any given times we mentioned the first half where the Bucks they led by 37 points beating the Celtics out in that first half you know Eddie what was working for Milwaukee from the start of this game that’s not the right question Amina what’s the right question what

Wasn’t working that’s true you know everything was everything was cracking off for him you know like I said it started with no resistance and the the fact that we couldn’t make any threes that didn’t help and I mean there was just zero resistance from the first half

And again it it you could push the panic button if it was something that like dang this is reoccurring you know for the Celtics they play well and then they come out and lay an egg this is their first egg I really believe that they lay

Like and you know due to the scheduling so I don’t want to make any excuses cuz everybody has to play but for the most part this is the first time I seen him just there was nothing that they were doing right whether it be defending and it wasn’t for lack thereof trying it

Just was they were step slow and you get caught like that some nights it it just be the other team’s night it’s just not your night you make bad decisions defensively lack of communication it’s a lot of things that could go wrong I mean you know we’re we’re we’re stretching it right now

We’re we’re trying to figure out you know on a blowout yeah what you can say about it and all you can say is really if you in that locker room the same thing that Joe did hey let’s just get this game over let’s get back to Boston

And be and be cool yeah that’s what doc would do we got all right come on bring it in come on whatever you need to do to get right get right all right bring it in cuz there’s nothing you could really learn from this two on three so it’s

Like they’re like they know not going to have a team meeting over something like this and like like Eddie said it’s not a reoccurring thing but you know you hate that it’s a Milwaukee Bucks and you hate that it’s supposed to be a statement game but it’s how it goes sometimes yeah

I’m just thinking though like from a fan perspective and you know that there are backto backs in the schedule that’s something that’s very normal I mean if you’re looking at this Celtics team do you start to question maybe like the toughness the mentality or was that game against the Minnesota timber was just

That good where they were going in overtime where tonight you knew it might be a problem in terms of them having the gas to go I don’t think their their toughness H has to be questioned um it’s just it was just one of those games uh

And and more than not I would think that this probably a one-off anomaly type thing where we won’t see this type of performance and if we do see it uh happen again and then again then you could be like hey that might be concerning but I’m not

Really concerned about this one G it’s a long season man you’ve been in this you know what I mean you throw this away you go home and that’s it yeah and the records on back Tob backs have been strong right you know they’re not tapping out of these back to backs so

Their their records have been really good and their record has been so good that it made me think you know what maybe they Shock the World here a little bit you know but but you got to take into account what Milwaukee was going through because a lot of teams in the

NBA like let me explain NBA players they’re good at having their back to the wall and fighting out they’ve been doing that their whole life from the time they were kids all the way through a lot of them have trouble handling success that’s where the problem comes in

Complacency steps in that’s those are those are things NBA player when the Milwaukee Bucks who have a lot of Pride are coming off of you know they’ve won a championship and they’re coming off two embarrassing losses all of a sudden you know they’re going to have pride they’re

Going to have be that team with their back against the wall so this is expected it’s unfortunate but expected we’ll see if they Trend this direction but I would not overreact to this at all yeah not at all the bugs but extra motivation tonight the Celtics post game

Live a look at the season series so far between the Celtics and the Bucks everything kned up at one a piece two more meetings coming up one inside of TD Garden on March 20th and the next one back at fiser Forum on April 9th the Celtics with a big loss of the

Bucs tonight time now for our coach’s press conference is presented by arella Insurance here for Celtics fans here for good uh I just thought it was in the best interest of our team uh just the way the game was going um yeah just kind of thought that was what’s best for

Everybody you want more I I mean I don’t have a I can’t give you a more elaborate answer on that I just thought that was what was best for our team just considering it you know so I’m not trying to be any type of way what happened that you saw during the

25 offensively defensively uh didn’t have it tonight was happening from time to time I thought the intentions were great guys gave it all they had uh for as long as they could just didn’t go our way you know on either end of the floor but that was my decision that you know

It wasn’t there so thing you think based on last name uh I don’t know you know you uh I think just over the of a of a season you have those from time to time um I don’t can’t point to one particular thing um all I know is um guys gave it a

Shot and uh this didn’t go our way how would you have treated that maybe differently last season um before getting that experience as a coach and uh I don’t think you probably would have handled it the same way sitting guys for the second half so how is that inform

How you kind of approach the pace of the season the whatever else yeah I everything’s about the players and so as you continue to look at life from a player’s perspective and you look at the intentions and the character of your team uh and a year of experience for

Myself and so I trust our character I trust our team um you have to look at this and say okay is this a one-off is this a trend is this something that you have to be concerned about and when you look at stuff like that the answer is no

No and uh things like this happen and you can actually use them as opportunities because it gives you perspective you’re able to take a deep breath and uh you you know as I said we’re very we’re not on that the side of that very often and so when you are it’s

Good to learn from it so um I think just you know as you develop as you’ve been in the league a little bit and you start to see that you develop your identity and and uh you know you have to always do what’s best for the players and I

Felt like that was what’s best for the players in our team Joe you know nights like this are going to happen but you don’t ever want to get this bad where they take a 45o lead is there something that uh you can do this the NBA can do to prevent nights like

This where I mean they literally switch to another game in the second half on TNT because the lack of competition because you guys are coming off you guys are tired like is there something that the league could do or that you could do to prevent it from getting this

Bad uh I have no idea I’m not on the league committee I don’t run the league I don’t do the scheduling I coach the team and my only job is to do what’s best for the players and it goes back to when you’re in uh moments throughout the

Season the way you handle winning and losing it goes back to your intentions it goes back to your character and so uh our guys bring it every single night uh every single night every single day and it’s not always going to go your way and um it’s more about just how you respond

To it and stuff like that happen so I can’t speak on things that I’m not experienced in it’s just it’s about the players it’s about the locker room and uh we gave it a shot didn’t go our way and to me I’d rather focus on the second

Half our goal was to win a quarter we won one in the fourth quarter and I love the uh intentionality that our second unit brought so o Sam pton Luke fee Lamar Delano and Nei like they played hard they executed and that to me is is what’s more important from tonight’s

Game when halftime when you tell Jason Jaylen they’re resting was there any push back are they looking at you like man yeah we’re we’re it’s tough right like they want to play they’re competitive again it was my decision it wasn’t theirs at the end of the day it’s

My responsibility to do what’s best for them and the team and so they obviously if I said hey you want to go out there they’re going to do it and uh so it was me I just I told them and I felt like that was my responsibility to do it just

You’re kind of like the trainer thrown in the tow for his boxer like you I love you guys just saying you try to you got do what best for your yeah you do and like as I like you just it’s hard um you know like you said it was my decision it

Wasn’t theirs they’re going to always want to play uh we do talk minutes and hey do you want to stay in here but I think at the end of the day I got to do the the best thing possible so um I I mean I guess I don’t want to use the

Phrase throw in the towel it’s more about the perspective of your team and the where your team is at right and uh you look at our team over the course of these what we play 38 39 games uh We’ve developed a a you know a toughness a

Mindset we’ve done a lot of great things on back Tob backs we’ve done a lot of great things underhanded and tonight just wasn’t our night and I think you have to have the humility to know that from time to time it be more important how we respond on Saturday because um

These aren’t excuses this is just the way life is this is the way it goes and as I said to the team after I don’t this doesn’t I’ve said it before it’s more about who are we going to be on Saturday you know who are we going to be other

Tough situations so these how do you not allow it to extend beyond this you know how do you kind of when you have off like move past you just throw it away go back on it all how do you uh I think it’s a really good question I think you

Have to look at it from the standpoint of you’re going if we let’s just say we lose the next game against Houston you guys are going to be like that’s two in a row now you’ve lost two did any of the habits from last game bleed into this

Game and like those are the questions that you’re going to ask and the answer is no just because whether we win or lose a game uh is not going to be contingent upon what happened tonight uh it could be a two-point loss at overtime it could be a 20po game and what you

Have to look at is the trends that we’re developing and the habits that we’re de developing over a long period of time and over a long period of time we’ve developed really good habits and so regardless of how the result of the next game goes it doesn’t it’s not contingent

Upon what happened today and so I just don’t look at it that way and uh it’s more about the habits we’re you know we’re developing and so you take a look at last game uh 80% 20% we played Celtic basketball and so can we do that over the course of long stretches for

  2. Its funny how shaq says every team is the best team after a win… And then turns around and says they are the worst team if they lose a game, especially after they were exhausted
