I committed one of the cardinal sins and found myself lurking in the okc reddit. Let’s just say…I regret it.

Yea, they will always trump “winning” and “efficiency”, similar to how we will trump stats and eye test.

ROTY (like MIP) is an individual award, always has been. Not a team award like MVP or DPOY. But Chet supporters and the media are moving the goalpost this year to make this a race.

So the team winning and doing well shouldn’t play as big a factor as the Chet supporters make it out to be. It matters, it’s just not the only thing that matters.

I get it, thunder needed a center and adding Chet moved them from play in to 2 seed. But his role is very limited compared to Wemby. Hes a phenomenal player. Probably an all star one day. But our entire team revolves around Wemby and Chet is the third option.

  3. spurs777_

Yes, but imagine our record without Wemby. We might have 1-2 wins max lol

  4. DeathByAudit_

Don’t see how the 2023-2024 goal was ever to compete. It was to develop and determine next pieces that are needed for Wemby to excel. Really hope there is truth to the Trea Young trade; that would be electrifying. Wemby #1 option, Trae #2, and Vassell #3. That would be entertaining.

It’s fine.. next year wemby will improve the win total by 40+ en route to his first mvp, dpoy season

  6. AchtCocainAchtBier

Man who cares. I think HIM would care more about rings than single player awards.

  7. In January wemby is averaging close to 25 points on a little more than 25 mpg. The mins restriction might be over with today so he could average close to 30 ppg for the rest of the season since he has completely changed how he plays while the offense now revolves around him. This “competition” for rookie of the year is about to be over

  8. SerDavosSeaworth64

I know our goal wasn’t to compete. I don’t think we should have made short term, nearsighted moves to win this year.

But honestly I really don’t understand how the team is worse than it was last year

  9. brendon_b

They’re right though that getting Wemby and getting worse is a disgrace.

Edit: I don’t understand the downvotes. This is objectively true. We’re terrible, and we’re not even fun to watch. I don’t understand why Spurs fans are so gleefully complacent about how awful we are. We’re not even tanking for a good draft class!

  10. getbackup21

Almost like every other rookie was on a developing team

  11. AlienHotDogs

Is this the only stat Chet is ahead of Wemby in or what? lol

  12. After-Teamate

It’s just a no context, no nuance take.

These same people will shrug and put their hands up saying either of us could have been right.

Hopefully they don’t use any sports betting sites

  13. They forget we traded away good players as well. OKC fan base need to use their brain for once.

  14. DevilGunManga

OKC don’t really need Chet to be good. Look at their on/off stats

    – OKC have +9.4 NETRTG with Chet on the court. They have +7.3 when he is off the court. That’s +2.1 NETRTG increase.

    – In case of Wemby, the Spurs have -6.9 NETRTG with Vic on the court. They have -11.3 when he is off the court. That’s +4.3 NETRTG increase. If we’re looking at stats in the last 10 games, in which Tre was the starting PG. The Spurs are +5.9 with Vic on the court and -4.1 when he is off. That’s a whooping + 10 increase in NETRTG.

A lot of the dumbasses with the ballots who cast the vote for Chet will look back at this season 5 yrs from now and question themselves “did I really give a vote to a role player instead of a generational superstar?

  15. Bonesawisready5

We don’t neee to post stuff from OKC; they accepted Josh Kiddey, they are beneath us lol

  16. Let’s just give them a nice efficient ass kicking tomorrow

  17. nokarmawhore

Maybe you guys are younger so you’re more into this rookie of the year award but idc. Wemby will be a top 3 player in this league in the next 3-4 years and that’s way more important to me. Cuz you need a guy that good to win it all.

Chet is good but I don’t think he has the upside to be a top 5 guy in the league

  18. Sasquatch_Squad

It won’t even be a discussion by the end of the season. There’s not a single GM in the league that wouldn’t personally smother Chet with a pillow in his sleep if it meant they got Wemby instead.

  19. The Thunder is set to improve their record with it without Chet

It’s like saying Will Cherry deserved ROTY in 2015 because the Cavs’ record greatly improved when he got drafted

  20. bad_chacka

Our record would likely be much better if Wemby had a legit point guard the first 20 games and not being on a minutes restriction the last month+.

  21. Comrade2k7

We traded Poetl and DJ. This isn’t the same team

  22. Lil_peen_schwing

Look at how much shit OKC and indy ate to develop to where they are now. Rack em up we building

  23. If you’re the best player, you deserve the award period.

  24. SnooRobots944

Serious question, why are we so much worse than last year without wemby
