Ranting about selfish basketball…

Ranting about selfish basketball…

It was a busy day A busy 24 hours in the NBA 24 hours ago or just a little over 24 hours ago a string of performances rocked the NBA World Kevin Durant was beside himself 70 points for Joel embiid shouldn’t we clap 62 points for Carl Anthony towns Joel embiid was not bested

On this night wake up today to find reports Adrien Griffin has been fired some notes on that we’ll get into it and Kyle Lowry the gro the greatest Raptor of all time has been traded to the Charlotte Hornets from the Miami Heat they trade Terry Rosier and the

Heat lose their first round pick which could become a very valuable asset given where that team might be headed given the lack of Superstar on their roster and potential EV Al you know they could be in a very very bad situation 2027 I believe the pick was Lottery protected and then it becomes

Unprotected the next year could they be surrendering a very valuable asset in order to get an upgrade on Kyle Lowry Kyle Low’s been pretty bad I’m pretty on firm record saying I think the Raptor should explore bringing him back as a veteran presence and you know perhaps a

Backup guard if they look to move off of Dennis Schroeder but let’s talk about what’s going on in the East you know very often we talk on this channel about what is basketball what kind of basketball do we want to see on the court what is good for basketball bad

For basketball we spent a lot of time last year talking about stat pading selfish basketball and I think someone who could probably say a little bit more about this than I could right now is Chris bench and um you know that’s just uh like I said there’s a lot of ways to be

Immature there’s always a lot of ways to be immature um and there was a lot of immature performances here throughout the the roster we totally disrespected the game ourselves um and we got exactly what we deserve so Chris did did you also see I mean did

It turn into Carl trying to hunt like a a big number yeah I mean it was I mean but for a while I it was going um but you know down the stretch we you got you know kind of dried up for us but um yeah so

You know you do feel bad for people who believe in the purity of the game people who believe in playing the right way um it’s sad really but isn’t it a symptom of the times that we live in you know I’ve always believed in that Pavlov you know thing

Where the more you reward something the more it becomes a systemic habit the more more it becomes incentivized right we pay guys celebrate guys for putting up big numbers we do not celebrate people for setting good screens we do not celebrate someone for being a selfless basketball

Player I think in so many ways you know I I go back to an article that I wrote in 2017 or 16 when Russell Westbrook won that mvp for averaging a triple double and I felt that Russ really St paded his way to triple doubles the whole season

He was assist hunting and this was something that I intuitively understood as being bad for the game I think it’s bad for the game it’s bad to reverse engineer statistics and pop saying AA culture tainted such Purity that the game had watching Joel MB try to extend the

Streak that he’s on in order to pitch himself for MVP even last year this insecure bout for you know oh I gotta you know I I deserve it over yic you did not deserve it over yic the voters of course as corrupt as the people that they cover as misguided as the people

That they cover gave it to him because the other guy just said I just care about my horses I don’t care about this award it’s not about that we didn’t celebrate that you know I spent much of the offseason trying to do my best to celebrate Nicole yic not because he’s

From my country but because he stands for what I believe is good for the basketball I believe he stands for what’s good for the game I’ve never seen nicoa yic look enviously at one of his teammates for putting up 40 points I’ve never seen him get angry that someone

Didn’t pass him the basketball when he was on the verge of a triple double he could care less I think the most beautiful thing about guys like Nicole yic and LeBron James is they never cheat the game they never stat hunt they never stat pad their greatness is not reverse

Engineered in fact their greatness is their greatness but too often because their greatness is contextualized in the numbers in the accolades we end up trying to fi we end up finding guys who try to reverse engineer the greatness we find guys you know if you’re a great basketball player like

Truly truly one of the greats you will stumble into a couple MVPs your greatness alone will create greatness on your team the greatness will create winning the winning will create the the awards and the Championships that’s how it’s supposed to be that’s how magic played you could

Have issues with how magic played off the court but that’s how magic played the game that’s how bird played the game that’s how that’s how the greats played the game you know M Michael Jordan for all of his scoring it’s not a stat patter it’s not a stat patter I feel

Like the East is a mess I think the NBA is a mess I think a culture is a mess and I don’t want to be an old man yelling at the crowd I’m not even that old but the truth is that there’s a lot going on in the NBA that makes me just

Think what the hell let’s talk about Adrien Griffin for a second now personally um I was a little bit surprised to be completely Frank that well let’s let’s go down the list here one second first of all I will at the end of this video if you stick

Around I will do my very heartfelt thank you to getting us uh to this community for getting us 8,000 subscribers we’ve been on a bit of a heater and I do appreciate it speaking of numbers the second thing I just want to quickly mention is Scotty Barnes is among the 41

Finalists for the 12 player roster of the 2024 Olympics and I strongly believe and strongly endorse his presence on that team it would be beautiful to see Scotty represent his country and I hope he makes it Adrien Griffin was fired now first of all I don’t understand why he was hired

In the first place I don’t understand why bud was fired in the first place I definitely don’t even understand why Drew holiday was rated now I understand Damen Lillard hell of a player I do not think that the Bucks are going to win a championship with this team I frankly

Think it’s pretty surprisingly won a championship with the last team I think their Championship among the Championships that have been won over the last 10 years is probably the fluki of the fluki in my opinion so not to cast dispersions and be you know too much of a hater of the

Milwaukee Bucks have nothing against the Milwaukee Bucks but given the controversy of how Drew holiday found out that he was traded you know he and his wife had a lot to say about that on his way out he’ been a very loyal member of that community and genuinely one of

The guys that I feel is good for the game of basketball a guy who is good for the game on and off the court he plays hard Jew holiday has never cheated the game a day in his life and this is what he gets for

It in terms of the shortest 10 years in in uh coaching history here’s a here’s a fact fact to put behind you know a feather in your cap okay the average NBA coach coaches for about 3.7 years okay these are the shortest tenured head coaches so number five gar herd that was

The um Washington Wizards prior to Michael Jordan taking over 1999 2000 then we had number four that was 44 games then you had Rudy tomjanovich with the Lakers that was 43 games and he was not really fired it was health concerns but he coached for 43 games then you

Have Adrien Griffin former Raptor assistant coach Adrien Griffin who was just relieved of his duties today despite the fact that his team is second in the East and 30 and 13 apparently Giannis lost faith all right then you have Bob Weiss 30 games and that was with the Seattle superon Sonics um right

Before they drafted Kevin Durant I think it was 2005 2006 and then then you had Jerry tar Canan and that was with the San Antonio Spurs in the early 90s so a little bit of NBA history there for you just a little extra little note there we

Just heard from Chris Finch he is obviously a member of Nick nurse’s coaching coaching tree he’s the only successful in my opinion member of Nick nurse’s coaching tree but the other two guys on Nick nurse’s coach coaching tree which is Nate borran and this guy right here Adrien

Griffin um have coached for exactly an average of 75 Seasons which means they are pretty much underperforming the average by three years and ironically they were both fired for the exact same reason interesting you know I could have told you Adrian Griffin was gonna get fired the second the second that thing

Happened with Terrys there was a story that broke out where Terry stots had apparently you know he had had a relationship with Damen lard Damen lard obviously got traded to Milwaukee Adrien Griffin had an issue with that and there was a particular moment where Adrien Griffin had called all the head assistant

Coaches over and allegedly Terry STS had sort of flagged him off and continued to talk to one of the players and then Adrian Griffin shwed him out and then shortly thereafter Terry dos quit Okay so Nate burran of course I don’t want to talk too much about it

There there have been a couple of people in the Indiana media that I’ve talked about and they gotten two different stories so I don’t really want to talk about what happened but allegedly there were some players who were very upset with Nate borren there okay um allegedly Doc Rivers is the targeted

Replacement let me get this straight you went from coach Bud NBA championship to firsttime head coach Adrien Griffin coaching by the way a Championship Contender whether or not you traded for Drew holiday or not I don’t know whose idea that was you’ve gone from that to that to Doc Rivers if

Doc Rivers ends up coaching the Bucks I think Giannis should demand a trade but honestly isn’t it partially on him I don’t know I don’t know Giannis but it feels like it could be partially on him let’s talk about Joel embiid and the 70 points and all of his stat padding

That he’s been on I don’t think it’s any secret that I don’t like Joel embiid I don’t I don’t like his flopping I don’t like the way he plays basketball I don’t like the way he talks about basketball I don’t like the way he thinks about basketball he’s

A hell of a talent yeah he is a hell of a talent he will never win [ __ ] in his whole life there are certain players where you’re just like that guy’s not going to win a championship joeel embiid is not going to win a championship Paradise L saying nobody likes

Embiid a lot of people like embiid some people think he deserves MVP allegedly he won it last year he wants to win it again and he has the perfect head coach in the league who promotes this style and thought process of basketball that I absolutely cannot stand why do you think

Pascal seakan played all those minutes last year why do you think OG and and Obi racked up all those steals it’s reverse Eng engineering alkalides oh you want you want recognition says Nick nurse Let’s gets you a lot of points a lot of rebounds and a lot of

Assists let’s reverse engineer I can just imagine the sales pitch from Nick nurse to his coaching staff last year hey man we don’t have a superstar so let’s make one let’s play a guy who’s not a superstar let’s play him League leader in minutes and let’s have everybody else spam

Possessions so that we win The Possession battle every single day we’ll say it’s because of some arbitrary statistic that suggests that if the team the team that has The Possession battle wins the game 70% of the time or whatever [ __ ] that they they said it was okay but the real reason that we’re

Going to do this is because we know these players are not talented enough on their own merits to put up the number MERS that they would need to put up to justify the contracts that they need to that they need to earn that’s it Pascal zakum you want all onba okay you’re

Gonna play a ton of minutes are you game sure okay is it good for the team is it good for your health no no of course not playing 35 40 minutes a night I mean when you have Coach Tibido making jokes about you that really should tell you

Something right what was Tibido asked when uh OG and anobi played 44 minutes and I think 43 minutes the next night he said he played in Toronto whoa your bench didn’t develop because you were told they were trash now you might believe that but I believe they weren’t developed because

They weren’t developed they weren’t given a time and I for one I’m very very happy about the Raptors you know doing this now um I’m very happy with the head coach and and and the philosophy but you know I heard this rumor long long time ago a few years ago that jamama malaa

Had left the Raptors because of personal differences now this is something that I heard through the Great Vine I have never heard had it confirmed by a second person so I don’t want to go and say this is fact but it does seem to line up perfectly that your development really

Went downhill with him too right now it’s not like he went to Golden State and made you know he didn’t make a whole bunch of all stars there but if you listen to people talk about who was responsible really for the development in Toronto of the young players Jaa malaa Patrick Matumbo

Are two names that come up constantly what happens to an organization when you have a coach in the middle who is like the nucleus through which everything passes or a general manager or any person in a leadership Authority position or a head or a franchise player anyone who can

Impact culture on that level is it’s like putting like some poison in the soil it’s just like it rots it rots from the from the inside and I think that the culture that we are in right now of sports betting fantasy basketball stat padding it’s like doing that to the game of

Basketball I’ve often thought to myself how much money I’ve cost myself with this channel over the last year by avoiding every sports betting app that has offered to sponsor us cheat sheet it’s over $20,000 I did the math I don’t promote Sports batting I don’t promote anything that I believe

Taints the game taints the game of basketball the game that I love the game that has given me so much joy the game that has allowed me to connect to my parents you know basketball was the greatest connection that I had to both my parents my my mom and I couldn’t talk

When we when I was a teenager we could still talk during a basketball game when my dad and I didn’t have anything in common when I was growing up the only thing we had in common was he could teach me how to shoot a jump shot

Because he played and I played that was it basketball is a great thing and I hate what’s happening to it you know I think about the Beautiful the beautiful game Spurs they were a Beacon of Hope to me they were a Beacon of Hope For What basketball is supposed to be incre

Increasingly I watch a lot more of the Euro league a lot more some of you may find that to be a little bit pretentious but to be honest it’s just a break from the crap that I watch and especially last year I found myself having to turn

On like an olympiakos game or a you know like a partisan game like I I I would want to like turn it on right after I watch the Raptors and PAs gal yakum going one-on-one and Fred Van B stat hunting and assist padding and whatever

And it’s just like like do I even blame these players because they came up in the system and they are being rewarded for doing exactly what is wrong and you know what the worst part is you get penalized for not doing the wrong thing you get chastised you get

Ripped Nicole yic just gave an interview the other day explaining why he sometimes scores Four Points to a Serbian uh newspaper where he was explaining like how he sees the game and it’s a beautiful it’s the right thing you know Greg papovich often talked about how his players sacrificed minutes

Monu janobi sacrificed he came off the bench it was good for the team it was great it was good for him you know he and Tony Parker kind of being splitting shifts it was good and he did it in his prime he was like the second or third

Best shooting guard in the NBA you could never do that today the agents would Nix it they would say nope my guy’s not going to be a six-man why you think I support Scotty Barnes so much he stands for what is really good about the game of basketball team first

Basketball the game of basketball is very simple it’s five people work so that one person can score there’s no predetermination on who that one person will be because if the defense falls asleep and somebody cuts back door you pass it to the guy and if the defense

Sags off middle and the guy ends up corner corner open you got to pass him the basketball it’s crazy to me that Darko rakovich is basically here to teach this team how to play basketball because that’s what he’s doing because you have guys going one on three in the paint

Because that’s what they’ve done it’s what they grew up doing an aou you can’t have an eight-point showing in a a scout might think you’re a bust a scout might think you’re not a dog and yeah sometimes you got to take tough shots because you you might be the

Best option you taking a shot in double team in the aou um especially in like a championship game or whatever it it might be that you taking a shot over a double team might be better than your teammate shooting an open Corner three but I’ve always appreciated that Scotty

Never saw it that way that he kept building that good habit and when I see Joel embiid Just gunning for these stats trying to reverse engineer his greatness put his name up there with the greatest to ever do it I’m reminded that this is sickening he is a sickening basketball

Player he and everyone like him he and every player who does what he does oh not everyone who scores big numbers is doing this to the game Kevin Durant has never done this to the game in my opinion Kevin Durant has never cheated the game a day in his life I’ve never

Seen Kevin Durant stad ever and you might think he cheated the game by going to Golden State you might think LeBron cheated the game by going to Miami certainly those things are chastised in our media but yo if the thing you push back on is the thing that you are

Teaching guys to not do then can we have some push back on stat padding please can ESPN First Take be like you know what we’re not going to lead with joeel embid scored 70 points and Carl anony tal scored 62 points and so they’re great no instead we’re going to actually

Critically evaluate what they did who they did it against did Joel andb need to score 70 points against the San Antonio Spurs they are a hapless team you were going up against a rookie Shannon sharp had the best quote he said Victor wanyama is so skinny he can look

Through a keyhole with both eyes wow funny but kind of true was that the point there’s literally nobody in the world that I will be happier to see failed than Joel embiid nobody he is in my opinion everything that is wrong with the game of basketball today

Everything He Flops recalls he is a dangerous player he dives into people’s legs and falls on people’s ankles he steps on people he flails about with his gigantic 300lb body and now he has the perfect coach to enable everything I can’t even imagine what the sales pitch

Was from Nick nurse to Joel embiid hey Joel do you remember last year James Harden we’re just trying to to get Joe the MVP we’re trying to get Joe the MVP no wonder you can’t win championships right if that’s your goal I’m reminded of that 2019 championship team the Toronto

Raptors and God damn it how proud I was of that team to watch that team that team sacrificed for the greater good that team played together that team did not care really who had the 30 points or 40 points you might think Kawai was the guy he was the guy

By reason he was better than the better than his next best teammate times two and it’s debatable who his next best teammate was but he was the man but that whole team sacrificed everyone sacrificed Serge Baka he was the starting center he came off the bench Norman pow he could

Started on a lot of teams he came off the bench let’s take a lesson from raptor past the culture that you had was you had a selfless leader KY Lowry who set the table for what it meant to be a raptor isn’t that the case I used to remember when I was

Young I really really learned the game of basketball by watching the San Antonio Spurs run their motion offense and I remember an interview where I believe it was ory or rashan iserovich I can’t remember if it was an interview or a conversation I had with rashan nich in which I

Remember this notion of Tim lets himself be coached and so everybody else has no choice this notion that this top three player in the NBA is allowing his head coach to yell at him in in practice and Coach him and call him out for a defensive play that he’s

Missed to bench him if he’s playing poorly this is accountability because if he can do it to him he can do it to anybody and you know I do remember Nick nurse trying to make an trying to send a message to Pascal SE yakum believe it

Was in the bubble if I’m not mistaken where he tried to bench him and SE yakum just walked off the court and he was like not having it what’s the message what what message does that send that message sends the message that’s sent is your star player is above being coached

So this is your culture that’s your culture your star player didn’t play defense I hate to break it to you your role players have played defense for the last three years your star player hasn’t played a licked defense three years he has not been dialed in and now it’s time

For a reset it’s time for a reset it’s time to learn from the past it’s time to learn that having a leader who allows himself to be coached who dials in who is selfless is basically setting the table for what it means to be a Toronto Raptor and for Joel embiid the counter

Opposite the counter argument is true he has set the table for what it means to be a Philadelphia 76er Chase your stats get the bag get the accolades get the get the headline and everyone else just watch and I am shocked that a player who is nearing 30

By the way joeel embiid is no spring chicken anymore he’s not a 24y old kid where this is excusable anymore I’m surprised that a guy who’s had so many playoff failures so many lost so many series in which his team was favored cannot figure out that the obvious thing

That’s going wrong here is him he is what’s wrong now you can blame Health you can blame everything but his teams have underperformed in those Bright Lights why because one person cannot beat a team even Michael Jordan couldn’t beat be a really good team needed to trust the triangle MJ the greatest

Player of all time needed to trust his teammates needed to activate the Scotty pippens the the Dennis rodmans Steve kerrs the Ron Harpers the Tony cou coaches eventually the Horus grants these are the players that win you championships and how do you activate those players you move the

Basketball you activate them that’s how they play defense what message are we sending when a star player can get a coach fired the way that just happened with Adrien Griffin what message are you sending the inmates are running the Asylum a coach you know I’m not I’m not advocating for Adrien

Griffin as a coach I think he’s done a lot of questionable stuff but you hired him and he was in the hot seat from day one because you have made a culture in which a star player can literally go up to his general manager and say if you don’t it’s me or this

Guy you don’t think Michael Jordan had issues with some of the roster construction his general manager he hated Jered Krauss he hated Tony C coach he hated certain certain his he hated a lot of his teammates he hated Bill cartright Michael Jordan couldn’t get those guys traded that’s respect you know you can

Hate a guy you you can dislike an assistant coach or whatever but this notion that you can just get these guys moved this way it’s all click Joel already had the bag and already dominant and still is Sixers winning the chip this year I look forward to you admitting you were

Wrong Brad F Jord if the Sixers win a championship sure yeah I I’ll make an apology video there’s no chance in hell of that happening by the way you know why because championships are built on the backs of sacrifice sacrifices from coaches sacrifices from players sacrifices and culture championships are a symptom

Sorry yeah champ championships stem from Championship culture the Sixers do not have a championship culture Paul saying zero chance to Sixers win a championship I agree half the league would have to die for that team to win a championship you are not beating you are not be beating Nicole yic in the finals

If Nico yic does not make the finals you’re not beating Kawai in the finals it’s not going to happen it’s not going to happen because there are no San Antonio Spurs in the playoffs I never respected any star player who got up for for the Charlottes and the Detroits I never respected a

Star player who piled up 60 points 50 points against the worst teams in the league you know when I knew Fred vanet was a fraud 54 points against the hapless Orlando Magic that’s when I knew that guy was a fraud because that’s a game to get your teammates going you you

Show up against the contenders because you are the player who can star players show up in the brightest lights because their teammates can’t that’s not to say they don’t float through they they show up they do competitive [ __ ] but Michael Jordan if you ask Michael Jordan what game are you looking forward to

MSG Clyde Drexler Magic Johnson Larry Bird yo these were the games that’s greatness you putting up 70 points against the San Antonio Spurs 70 points to 7 points here’s a question for you to end this live how many points would LeBron James in his prime have put up if he really

Wanted to against like the Bobcats do you remember the seven win Bobcats do you know how many points LeBron James in his prime could have scored if Joel embiid can score 70 I think LeBron could have scored 100 easy peasy that team was so bad it would be gross it would be so

Disrespectful it would be disrespectful to his teammates it would be disrespectful to the game of basketball for him to go out and do that that’s not the way this game was supposed to be played that’s 2K that’s 2K that’s your achievements unlock achievements whatever no basketball does not play that

Way you know who is a player that respects the game Victor W Bama I respect that dude Shay gild Alexander I respect that dude I respect these dudes Kevin Durant kawi Leonard these are the guys these are the guys who always have my support win lose draw whatever LeBron James Scotty

Barnes these are the guys these foul Merchants these guys who come out into the season we’re like a I’m going to put I’m going to put 35 that’s my goal for the season that’s your goal for the season to score 35 five basketball is not a one-on-one game it’s not an individual

Game Mudbone said Kobe did it against the Raptors and everybody loved it well not everybody loved it and to be honest his team was so bad maybe that’s why everybody loved it his team was so bad the Raptors were not the San Antonio Spurs just an FYI they

Had Chris Bosch they had Jaylen they they had Jaylen Rose they had Mo Pete they were not a bottom feeder they weren’t a contender but you can make a very good case that Kobe Bryant came into that game with the teammates that he had with a very realistic chance to

Lose the Sixers are the third team in the East the San Antonio Spurs are third from the bottom in the standings these are not evenly matched teams Muhammad saying Fred Van 2020 against Charlotte with something else do you remember that game do you remember him trying to chase

That 20th assist as I’m throwing up my mouth watching this [ __ ] what do you think like you think you think if I can see it you think Scotty Barnes can’t see it that that kind of [ __ ] would probably Drive Scotty insane no wonder he was so sad last year it’s disrespectful it’s

Disrespectful to your teammates it’s disrespectful to the game and you know it’s what are we reward rewarding he got paid it worked these late season surges it worked he got paid $43 million a year Fred Van B got paid $43 million to stat pad and who suffered the whole team

Suffered you know a lot has been made of the Raptor’s Championship culture and how it left with Kyle lry and all that stuff and I’m certainly you know a believer in that but you know sustaining culture is a lot easier than building culture from the ground up

Right it’s like keeping a room clean is easier than cleaning it from scratch Fred vanet and Pascal seak were given a clean slate I believe they were given a very beautiful situation and I think they both pretty much [ __ ] it up that’s my honest take that’s my honest

Opinion I believe that there was a lot of individualism that happened over the years and clearly you know you can say these guys worked hard yes they were Gym Rats yes they came into the season prepared it’s nothing compared to what Zion Williamson and Ben Simmons have

Done certainly we’re not comparing it to the pits and the bottom certainly but man when you start talking about championships you talk about sacrifice it’s always going to be that way so I think that the NBA and how we promote things and how we talk about athletes

From the very young age I think we are promoting the wrong things because you know what in Europe I don’t mean to romanticize everything in Europe there are individuals there are superstars there are star players there are points and point leaders and MVPs but it’s not

What we talk about every day it’s not the main point you know you look at the Raptor’s culture right now what are we talking about I mean there’s there’s a legitimate debate going on on Twitter right now whether RJ Barrett is better than Scotty Barnes what the hell are we

Doing here first of all he’s not but second of all why is that that every time somebody scores 25 and the other guy scores 15 we got to go into this die trbe about like one guy’s better than the other guy that’s not how basketball worked that’s the whole point

Right that’s the whole point you know Charlie V NOA scored 48 points I don’t remember anyone saying he was better than Chris Bosch that year was he no he wasn’t he scored 48 points he was open on a lot of it like come on now wait what happened here AJ Griffin sent

Home I think there’s a lot to be said about what it means to be a modern athlete in the modern day clearly you know there’s pressures and you know a lot of guys because of fantasy because of all this stuff you can’t put up six

Points eight points so in a lot of ways you really can’t be that type of player anymore you got to put up steady production because yo guys got thousands and thousands of dollars riding on you hitting their parlays what did Pascal seak say the highest moment in in my

Opinion one of the highest moments for me Pascal saying I don’t give a [ __ ] about your parlay or I don’t give a [ __ ] about your parlay I love that that to me made me happy I like that he said that and in a lot of ways maybe maybe

Pascal kind of came up with the wrong message too with Nick nurse maybe there was some you know someone in his ear from a very young age saying we’re going to get you to all NBA we’re going to get you to starter we’re going to get you to

Whatever instead of teaching him the concepts of Team you know I think it’s very hard to exceed the blueprint that was given to you as a child it’s very difficult to exceed beyond that and I think too often I think these athletes who score these 70 points and they stat

P against Bad teams I think what they need to think about is what kind of message are you sending to the kids who idolize you what kind of message are you sending to the Next Generation that’s going to come up and try to then you know I’m I wouldn’t be surprised if a

Ton of kids in high school today tried to go for 60 or 50 or big points right I know for a fact that like when I was younger and Kobe went off for 81 everyone in high school tried to do like the the same thing the next day because

Why wouldn’t you the whole world’s celebrating something why wouldn’t you want to do what the the other guy got celebrated for right you know if pattern recognition is not difficult if a guy averages 30 and he gets paid a Max and the other guy who’s probably a better

Player than him sacrifices and he get he averages 20 and he doesn’t get a Max well then everyone’s just looking around saying well I’m not taking less money for this we’re rewarding the wrong things that’s what I’m saying we are rewarding the wrong things so I for one

Would like to devote this channel to promoting the right things promoting guys who play solid defense promoting guys who sacrifice for the team promoting guys who set solid screens maybe we should rename ourselves the yaka purle podcast or the Scotty Barnes podcast which people probably think we already are

Anyways my point is um if you’re if you’re a parent out there and you have kids you have young kids who are learning the game of basketball please make sure that they understand that the game that they are playing is a team game I think increasingly we’re going to

See more and more of this as contracts become bigger I don’t even want to see what aund million player looks like talking to a coach who makes $5 million the TV deal everything it’s going to create a ton of pressure on these guys to put up these numbers on a night

Toight basis obviously and I think that overall it’s just it’s tough when you introduce this much money to not introduce the very human element of chasing that money you know and you look at a guy like Gary Trent I’ve been very supportive of Gary Trent throughout the season and you know

He didn’t throw a fuss he’s trying to do things the right way he’s got a lot of money on the line anyways I digress I don’t want to ramble on and on about this but I do want to say that um the Eastern Conference is mess right

Now and it’s kind of sad for me that the Raptors aren’t a little bit more competitive than they are because it feels like with some of the teams that are ahead of them falling down and some of the teams at the top not looking super scary to me teams like the Sixers

Teams like the Bucks teams that I think are beatable they don’t feel unbeatable the gap between them and a Brooklyn doesn’t or Cleveland doesn’t feel huge to me so I kind of wish the Raptors could play spoiler I wish the Raptors could rally off you know eight straight

Wins or something crazy like that and start pushing some of these teams and I hope that you know somehow this message gets out into the spirit of The Ether of the YouTube world to the Raptors you’re like the 43 44 game Mark stage a comeback show life you know

Um Michael saying any thoughts on Rosier in Miami thoughts are it’s a really tough pick to give up man um I I do understand it from their side it is an upgrade over Kyle Lowry at this stage um I’d be very surprised if Kyle Lowry ever shows up in Charlotte Um yeah if there are any more questions I would love to answer some questions right now this can be a little bit of a Q&A as I go through my Spiel of thanking you guys for 8,000 subscribers um and definitely I’ll answer questions um if you guys have any questions I I’ll

Definitely take them Raptors NBA related whatever um today’s been really interesting I think um nope I don’t uh thank you very much who’s on the all pensari first team what what does that mean like players uh DK can expan on the Bucks championship being fluke I just think

That they had remarkable luck I don’t think they played necessarily the greatest teams I think um you know the Phoenix Suns team that they beat in the finals I think them being there was a little bit weird ideally you would want um now of course you know nothing taking

Away it’s it’s the same thing as you know people people draw an asterisks next to the bubble Lakers people draw an asteris next to the kawhai Le Raptors because Katie got hurt Kelly got hurt there’s always something you can point to but I always say like you know um historically when you gauge

Championships a champion is a champion is a champion is a champion right but not all championships are equal not all paths to a championship are equal sometimes you have a really difficult road to a championship sometimes you have an easier road to a championship because there’s a massive upset at some

Point somewhere along the lines and yeah I mean sometimes system works and sometimes it doesn’t I just don’t think that the Bucks played necessarily the I I think the Raptors played a much stronger Road I think the Nuggets played a stronger Road last year to the championship than the Bucks played I

Think the Raptors played a much stronger Road much stronger they played the Sixers and the Bucks that was crazy and then they played the Golden State Warriors so um did something happen oh okay the all pensari first like to do the right thing players okay cool yeah uh let’s let’s think about it

Uh Mike Conley point guard Mike Conley um shooting guard just for shits and giggles let’s Scotty Barnes shooting guard um small forward OG anobi uh power forward it’s good power forward for this um do the right thing selfless power forward may we can put Scotty at power

Forward then I can put move somebody else oh this is all time oh no no no no no we’re not doing all time we’re doing currently in the NBA we’re definitely not doing all time um cuz all time it’s going to be like Bill Russell for sure um shenon

Uh um no I don’t know about shenon for sure Danny Green talked about Scotty on YouTube have you seen no I haven’t um thank you so much for the Super Chat by the way Draymond that would be crazy Draymond Green wow yeah I I like

Draymond but yeah he he does a lot of crazy [ __ ] um jonte Porter you know what no auto porter wow three Raptors yeah went with OG Scotty and auto that’s that’s not biased and then Center obviously yic so you got Mike Conley Scotty Barnes man there are other guys for sure

Herb Jones herb Jones forget Auto pter for a second uh herb Jones herb Jones is a great um great example uh Tony what’s going on man okay um he’s talking about Scotty getting the keys where is this I would love to I would love to watch it maybe I can re

React to it live hang on one second let me find it is it on YouTube I mean I would I would love to see it is it um somebody help okay oh Dennis Schroeder back back on the Raptor show that’s sure to be something I’m going to watch later

Um give me one sec guys figure it out where is it and why do I have 85 notifications okay filter today uh oh okay cool Danny Green inside room 3 minutes cool let me pull it up one sec I’m I’m going to download it real quick and then we’ll pull it up and

Shout out to Danny Green not the first time I’m going to be pulling up your podcast on our show thanks so one sec let’s pull it up um a lot of players have been very very complimentary um what the hell sorry I just messed that up okay

Give me one sec guys I got to I got to find it again for some reason and I I got the wrong URL anyway I do want to say thank you to everybody who brought us to 8,000 subscribers there’s a little bit of a channel update coming up at the end um

Which is I think worth noting um Channel analytics been going crazy crazy crazy like the last few lives can you believe we had a live go to 25,000 views that’s crazy to me that’s that’s nuts um I mean honestly at the end of the day there’s oops at the end of the day

The the Dennis schroer remark um I do care a lot about the fact that we’re doing good work I care more about the fact that we’re doing good work than we get big numbers to me it’s like much much more important um but the big numbers do help why do the big numbers

Help because they are proof of concept they’re proof of concept that what we’re doing Works um and they really really do help um because I have been holding on to something for a while there’s you know people that I could bring on to the show that that would be very very relevant uh

To our understanding and expansion of basketball from scouts to coaches to potentially even some players and these conversations have been happening ongoing for the last year and I always tell my girlfriend I’m like wait till we get to 10,000 wait till we get 5,000 views my goal is that when this starts

Going it just steamrolls you know what I mean you don’t want to lose momentum so like you don’t want to interview like a Hall of Fame player and then have that video go like 2,000 views and then all your momentum is dead you know you want

That video to pop you want it to fly and in order to do that you need subscribers in order to get subscribers you need to make great content so is just like it’s stacking bricks you know what I mean so we just got a uh May Thompson saying Robert will

Spect values thank you um thank you very much actually that’s that’s really meaningful Dennis’s final appearance in the Raptor show hopefully huh you’re saying hopefully I thought that was like a report or something that would be really cool okay let’s pull up the Danny Green stuff the other side now the Toronto

Raptors let’s recap what they’ve done now they’ve gotten RJ Barrett Emanuel quickley and the Detroit Pistons second round pick and I think it’s important to him say the Detroit Piston second round pick this is not uh the the Minnesota timble second round pick this is not the

Oklahoma City second this is the Detroit can I change my selection to Danny Green um Danny Green’s like my one of my all-time favorite Raptors and definitely definitely definitely a guy who did everything right at every stop he’s played at with the exception of maybe one year in San Antonio I have always

Felt to for him to be like one of the most underrated most awesome basketball players I love Danny Green so yeah Danny Green is on my all pin sorry round so essentially they have the a late first round pick that’s what they got yeah that’s what they got for OG anobi now

They trade Pascal SE yakum not one not two but three first round picks for Pascal SE yakum on top of the fact they also get Bruce Brown Bruce Brown is an interesting Prospect because he has a team option next year for over $22 million that is an attractive contract

For a lot of teams in the NBA because you can just see that $22 million come off your books or you could just have Bruce Brown for $22 million for one season so they could potentially move him if they want to they might be able to get another first round pick for

Bruce Brown so you’re talking about maybe four first round picks for Pascal seaka I know uh messiou Jerry and Bobby Webster got a bit of Hell in Toronto for their lack of moves uh when they were as the team as the championship team was kind of disintegrating they made off like

Bandits in the OG and SE yakum trades I’ll tell you that they a hell of a job and they really reset this franchise in a in a fast and efficient way in my opinion yeah well I guess we’ll see what they get with the draft picks that’s

That’s yeah what’s gonna tell you know who they can pick up and you have to also make some good draft picks but yes this time around they did not allow guys to expire and just lose them for nothing um so they did what they were supposed

To do um they found know those guys I would say a home but a place for them uh to feel they had I want to say worth but a place where they can be contenders or win or or a situation where it was better fit for them and where they can

Rebuild um so they they put themselves in really good position to be the next OKC yeah they really did uh and and obviously now the tension in Toronto goes on one Scotty barns there’s nobody holding you back the floor is open it is as Darko Ro rakovich said his

Head coach it’s Scotty Barnes team now he’s the face of the franchise and well he went a little bit too far by saying he’s the face of the league but nonetheless going Scot bares now to lead his franchise into its next era what does Pascal siakam’s absence on the court mean for

Scotty Barnes in terms of his production on the court and what do you think this overall means for the Toronto Raptors well he now can be the primary you know point forward there you know they had so many other point guards and point forwards there uh you know with the the

Release of Pascal he he can be you know that well I guess Draymond with more attributes offensively you know so um you have schroer but schroer can play off the ball they have quick who plays on the ball but you know there’s going to be a lot of times where Scotty is

Going to bring get it off the board and bring it up himself and those guys can also play you know fast and off the ball with him so it allows him to have uh I said be that point forward that he’s always been and have the ball in his

Hands a lot more with without Pascal being there yeah for sure I I’d be interested to see how Scotty kind of develops here they’ve clearly given him the opportunity to be the face of the franchise it’s up to him to now grab it and continue to

Improve so big time trade going down on this Wednesday in mid January looking forward to seeing what else happens around bro he talking about Scotty Barnes like he’s Jonathan kaminga are they [ __ ] crazy that’s what I’m talking about man anchoring bias is real a nobody who’s seen Scotty Barnes play when he was

Younger actually see that Draymond [ __ ] um as I said his his head coach in Florida State compared him to Scott to Scotti Pippen and Magic Johnson that’s a far cry from Draymond draymond’s below the rim athlete I admire Draymond Green’s game a lot but this notion of

You know this is crazy um nuggets versus Pacers is on I’m definitely gonna go watch it I gotta tell you I will definitely go watch it I’m looking forward to seeing Pascal seak versus you know I mean really like I’m a big nuggets fan I’m a big Pacers fan so I

Get to watch two of my favorite teams play and I’m very curious to see if I don’t know if Ty totton’s back but we’ll see um we will see what it is but you know um yeah just to just to end this end this uh live on a this was just a

Rant you know thank you to 275 of you who here um we will keep our content very structured from here on out so we a little less Rance I’m going to try to focus on making the lives like the late night lives I’m going to try to make

Them not four hours we’re going to try to be very conscious about putting time stamps um these are the things that we do when the when the views go up as I said um 8,000 8,000 subscribers a lot of subscribers um over the past month our channel has gotten almost as many views

As pick aide that’s crazy that’s wild to me they have like 60,000 subscribers so basically whether we’re talking Twitter where we only have a th followers or whatever on Twitter and some of our posts blow up 400 500 you know retweets and stuff like that and

I’m like okay you know we we got reals on Instagram even though we only have 2,600 followers on Instagram we get reals with a million plus um we’re on YouTube with 8,000 subscribers we’re getting more views and channels with 100,000 subscribers and I’m just thinking to myself that’s just you guys

That’s the people that are rocking with us at 2 a.m. that’s the core audience I believe the penar basketball Corps audience is more loyal to this community and more loyal to me and more loyal to this brand and more loyal to this channel than any podcast out there

Like you guys like you’re awesome so thank you for that and you know this is this was a very long-term vision for me I talked to a player today shout outs to to that man and we were just talking he was just like give me the end goal like

Give me the end goal of what you want to do and I said my end goal I want I want to have an interview with M Michael Jordan I want to have an interview with Vince Carter I want to have an interview with all these guys

And I want to have like a real basketball discussion where I can where I can ask ask them questions that I’ve wanted to hear them asked like my whole life even as a kid I wanted you know Michael Jordan you have Michael Jordan in front of you why don’t you ask him

This question and nobody asked him that question I want to be the person asking that question Bill Russell passing away was really tough for me it was a big motivation to start this channel too because it made me realize like you know when I watched Bill Simmons do that interview with Bill

Russell I was like there are a million questions that I wanted to ask Bo Russell that I’m never going to get to ask him because he passed away I don’t want that opportunity to go away with Tim Duncan I want to tell Tim Duncan that my first job

Was to get a jersey like a Tim Duncan Jersey I want I want him to know that story I want Kevin Durant to know that I made a basketball mixtape of him when when you know like I love this game that’s why I do this I love this game

I’m not I’m not in this for the content I’m not in this for the money I’m in this because I love this game and I want to help grow it in any way possible I’m not a player I’m not a head coach I’m not a scout I’m not those things so this

Is my contribution to the game and oh that will happen that will happen that will happen someday um so as we get bigger um I will stay the same you I we always stay the same we’ll get better obviously hopefully I’ll get better our content will get

Better our content will be more volumous to those of you who’ve been asking for Content Fanning out to other teams you will get that too if the Raptors do not make the playoffs which I’m not ruling out right now but if they don’t make the playoffs at some point um we will do

Postgame lives for the New York Knicks so we can track OG and anobi playoff performances as well as Pascal SE yakum um and the Indiana Pacers and maybe if the Houston Rockets make it no we’re not doing that no no way no way not for Dan

V never never but we’ll we’ll we’ll do Clippers you know for kawhai Leonard we’ll do like an x-raptor you know daily Roundup where we can talk about all the Raptors that played that day that are meaningful to our organization from Pascal and OG to Kawai and we could just

Do a daily Roundup so we can still be technically a part of the playoffs through the players you know that we used to love and root for we still love and root for and yeah we could do that too right MC what are the chances we get OG

And herb that would be a master stroke and I think that the Raptors could pull it off if they willing to part with all their draft picks and they have this wink wink agreement with OG anobi but that would be great those two players are very much

Needed so yeah and then of course um I want to keep the content game going obviously over the next month you’ll see the content slow down a little bit it’s not because I’m taking my foot off the pedal it’s because I got to focus on this beautiful Festival that I’m running

We got a lot of work uh doing that but after that I’m going Full Throttle there’s a lot of conversations that are being had there’s a couple sponsors that want to come on board that are not gambling sponsors you will never see pener basketball please understand if P

Basketball is ever sponsored by gambling Channel you know I’m like desperate like I might be on my deathbed and I don’t think I would I would accept a gambling sponsorship so or anything that I believe is is bad for people so cool sponsorships ahead cool interviews ahead cool guests ahead cool conversations

Ahead really going to up the video content game film room stuff I have a lot of ideas for this channel I think we’re not even close to where we’re going to go and pain causing Samurai with the Super Chat here I really appreciate it it’s not basketball you should check out mythical

Kitchen’s last meal series great interviews questions that don’t get asked enough that’s cool yeah I’ll I’ll check it out I’ll I’ll drot that down um and um not finalized yet but I will potentially I mean to those of you who followed the tra o Sports podcast you’ve

Seen me on other podcasts before I started this podcast I may soon be accepting also a part-time thing with another huge podcast and we’ll see if that goes where that goes um I asked to table it until March to see where we are it’s not going

To take any it’s not going to take me away from this channel but it will add you know cool content um and cool you know it’s it’s it’s really cool so anyways a lot of really exciting things happening on my front I’m really excited I’m super happy um I got to tell you

Like okay this is going to be very very Petty please bear with me I’m a human being I do have I do have my Petty bone too there were two companies that really really wanted well I don’t say really really wanted I don’t know how much they

Wanted but they offered uh they offered to bring me on prior to me putting full force in the pentre basketball and those two companies are you know like Raptors adjacent stuff like I’m not going to mention which companies but they were companies that and they were like hey

You know we want you to have a show on our platform whatever we like what you do we’ve seen you on this show that show whatever you’re good you have a good voice for this and I didn’t like what they were offering and I didn’t like you

Know the fact one of them was offering a media pass but it was like it came with all these stipulations and stuff so I was just like screw it and when I put full force into this they all said that I was stupid all they didn’t say I was

Stupid they just said that oh it’s you know not not not advisable it’ll take you years and years to build up an audience like you could have a readymade audience here and at that time please understand I think P basketball had like 200 subscribers so they had a point you

Know um that it would be hard to to get and they were just like you know you I I I actually went back and looked at the email today from that person um who shall remain nameless and he said you know it might take you a year to get

Monetized like because you need a th000 subscribers to get monetized and you need 400 watch hours and how many you know how many years you willing to spend on this so you know like this is our offer we can up it a little bit whatever and I remember thinking to myself at the

Time like maybe they’re right you know maybe this will never work out for me and I remember telling my girlfriend at the time like hey man like I might not make any money off of this for like a whole year we just had our most financially successful months and I

Think we we topped our previous month like 17 days into this month like you guys have made this so so fulfilling for me thank you I’m not complacent but I want to tell you just the pettiness in me I have to tell you those two companies nameless companies I checked the stats

Today okay this is this is really this is true 100% so I have something called tube buddy on my side and it gives you a comparison so any channel I go to it shows me a cross comparison of how many views they got for that month how many

Views pcer basketball got for that month how many subscribers they got how many subscribers we got so it’s a good way to gauge you know fun fact God theology killing it killing it dude shout outs to Gody yo he has 3.5 million views goiy had 3.5 million views something think in

The last month crazy I think he had more he had more views Gody had more views I think than um Kenny for real just to put that into perspective that’s wild like that’s crazy the fact that like I need to get that guy’s autograph when I meet

Him next time I’m kidding but shout outs to Gody so the final thing so I so I went on the two pages on on the two companies that had offered me and told me that it would be forever and penar basketball not only not only beat them combined

Actually beat them combined times three for the past month you guys made that possible I wonder if they would try to hire me today and I wonder what their author would be it’s not getting better and this is so petty and I know it’s Petty and I told my girlfriend about it

And she’s like that’s kind of petty you probably shouldn’t share that but you know what I am I’m sharing it because at the moment I took it as a personal Challenge and I’m really happy that you guys have made it possible that you know we won that challenge so

Yeah I know right I know I hate it I hate it I hate it maybe that’s why I didn’t like fed van B but yeah I I bet on myself in service of other people um hit the like oh my God no I’m shaving like right now I’m going to go and shave

Right now I don’t want I don’t want any Fred Van vet comps on that one anyway thanks a lot for making this community so cool I love it I love doing these lives and I promise you if I didn’t love it I wouldn’t do it so yeah you’re worth

More than they offered I I believed I was too all right take care guys have a good one

Joel Embiid scored 70 points on Kobe’s 81-point anniversary, the Bucks fired head coach Adrian Griffin despite being 30-13, Kyle Lowry was traded for Terry Rozier in dramatic fashion, and the business, money, politics of the NBA have taken precedence. Former Raptors assistant Chris Finch blasted star Karl-Anthony Towns for stat-padding his way to 62 points and this is just a few weeks after the Nets imploded after an organizational decision to rest their players against the Bucks, leading to the team basically ending their season.

WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING to the NBA? And the sport of basketball as a whole?

  1. Rob. I heard the same rumour about Jama leaving the Raptors. It's interesting to note that as soon as Nurse and the Raptors parted ways and Darko was hired Jama was back pretty much immediately. Co-incidence, i think not.

  2. As I was checking in on that Philly game I swear I could just hear Nick Nurse in my mind whispering to Embiid “tonight you’re gonna get that Wilt record. You want people to recognize you? This is how we do it.” And feeling just a little nauseated. Can’t imagine a more receptive player to that approach …

Players like Scottie that contribute to winning on many levels I feel will be ignored unless the team is really, really, top tier winning and demanding that attention .. the flashy points total or in some cases even “triple doubles” otherwise will always grab the headlines and yeah then there is that incentive to engineer those things .. huge financial incentive .. it’s a tricky dynamic.

  3. One of the things that drew me to the raps was the culture that Lowry fostered, and it's been something I have missed since he's been gone. When Kyle assisted Birch in Birch's game high point game, Lowry said: "I mean, that's what I try to do, is try to get my teammates paid and help us win games and make sure everyone around me is successful."

That really stuck with me. Your dive into what is wrong with some players and culture in this league right now reminded me of that. We lost that when Lowry left, and FVV and NN flipped the script. I'm happy that it looks like we are now going in a different direction, and I hope we bring back Lowry asap to help foster that culture again.

One last thing: I loved watching Pascal play, especially from up close, but when he was asked about the play-in tournament whether the $500k was motivation, I remember him scoffing and saying no. Lowry would have been thinking about his teammates that make less that $10M a year and would have said f yeah it motivates me. I'll miss Pascal's amazing footwork, but I'm not sad Pascal's mentality is now on another team because this young team needed something else.

  4. Embiid is better than everyone who has played for the Raptors expect Kawhi. Don’t hate on greatness because your teams doesn’t have many all time great players.

  5. Brother I enjoy your view of what the game should be more than watching the game. Everything that blows past millions to billions is ruined by it. Iguadola went to my terrible sparcely trophied middle of nowhere H.S. I think it was the last time basketball felt like a game at any level above middle school. 8th grade for international folk. It takes special human beings to play for team once the sport is unequivocally business. The world needs more people like that everywhere.

  6. We need to bring this channel to the pinnacle of basketball content. It will change the way people look at basketball for the better. Congrats on 8000 subs brother

  7. Joel is literally my least favourite player right now, maybe ever.

There’s some players in this league where media and fans just move the goal post when evaluating them.

For YEARS media/fans would look at someone like Dame and all you would hear is ‘never going to win, blah blah blah’, yet when I watch espn etc you NEVER hear them mention how Joel has had significantly better teams and accomplished squat. embid was drafted in 2014, Dame was 2012.

Cade is another player that seems to get a pass. Sure he was injured, but the ‘look who he’s playing with’ excuse is overplayed. Every first overall pick goes to a trash team. Ben Simmons was under the microscope by year two, Markelle Fultz, Andrea Bargnani, Anthony Bennet. Andrew Wiggins are all 1st overall picks who by year 3 were constantly dogged by the media. (And rightfully so in some cases). Not saying Cade should have turned them into a title favourite by year three but there’s been 0 improvement in that franchise, and if anything they’re worse.

Ayton went first overall; by his third season they were winning. Ant, by his third season his team improved . Zion by his third season his team improved . Paolo by his first season his team improved.

Embid and Cade for some reason get a pass on stuff the media crucifies other people for. I don’t get it

  8. Bill Belechik said that Tom demanded to be coached hard in front of the team. It set the culture when the best player was willing to take the most heat.

  9. I disagree with this premise that Embiid was after stats only. Sometimes in bball players get hot and just want to go for the most buckets possible that game. Also, Embiid is no longer the player that flops…at least last 2 yrs he's been more serious. I didn't like him either but i took a step back and admire his dominance. It doesn't matter to me that it was against the Spurs. I like your content a lot but there seems to be more vitriol lately.

  10. You have to stop this nasty embiid agenda man, appreciate greatness that was the third highest game score ever

  11. The second you said you do not promote sport betting on your channel I clicked subscribe
Gambling is ruining the sport I Love

  12. 21:09. Hey Rob, a bit of a history question. The last big to score 70 before Embiid was David Robinson in 1994, and he did it as a one-off to ensure Shaq didn't get the scoring title that year (barely winning the title by 6 points), in a meaningless game vs the clippers.

Is hunting for points in one off scenarios justified in your opinion?
