Why did the Lakers fire this man?

Looking back at it, if the Russ situation never happened, this man would still be our head coach, and we would still be competing for a championship with a top seed with a better roster than arguably the 2020 Championship

Easiest scape goat out of the groups that matter in the franchise: Ownership/Executives/Stars/Coaches.

Sucks even more because now they are putting their full support behind a mediocre coach because they’re scared to be seen as coach killers. And that’s a fact since it was reported Quin Snyder became uninterested in the Lakers with how they fired Vogel.

  2. kongqueeftadore

Agree. He got fired because of Russ and bad roster construction. He took the fall for the organization. Now we have darvin ham. We have a decent roster and we are losing to bad defensive schemes, lack of positive in game adjustments, and improper timeout management with poor play calling out of timeouts. I’ve never been more mad at a lakers coach

  3. lakers22ballin

because he was also a bad coach and his team played no defense

its the same thing every year

  4. Actual_Lakers_Fan

Because Lebron wanted to play with Russell Westbrook and shooters and that is not a roster that fits Frank Vogel.

  5. LudwigNasche

If you ask me the Suns are also underperforming.

  6. RedditUser538xxx

Imagine hiring a coach who cant coach . The whole cheerleading gimick can only take you so far

  7. naderade303

He was awful as well. Ham is just REALLY awful

  8. Theoneandonlylog

Rob and Jeanie didn’t wanna take blame/responsibility so they pushed it all on Vogel

  9. communist_lover69

Bc we needed a guy that could get along with our franchise player, Russell Westbrook

  10. CabbageStockExchange

Lmao this is revisionist history. This sub fucking clamored for his firing by the end of the 21-22 season

  11. Gristle__McThornbody

Cause the front office is impatient and doesn’t know shit. They always need a fall guy and when the GM is deeply connected with the owner, they will never take accountability.

  12. TallanoGoldDigger

The same reason everyone here is shitting on Ham is the same reason why Vogel was fired:

    1. Bad Timeout management (Vogel was the opposite of Ham, he prematurely burned timeouts)
    2. [Bad Roster Construction](https://imgur.com/a/Y5YeiyN)
    3. No offensive structure
    4. Horrible rotations
    5. Favoritism (AB/THT)
    6. Lost the locker room. Lakers were up and giving up leads after starting slow in the 3rd. Ton of fake comebacks as well

People here forget so quickly and really don’t want to admit what the real problem is: the team is still recovering from the Westbrook trade and the roster quality reflects that

  13. litlegoblinjr

Builds an geriatric roster with no defense for a championship coach that specializes in defense. Team proceeds to struggle with defense. Fires coach 🤦‍♂️

  14. Needed a scapegoat.

FO wanted to make Westbrick work because of all the assets they gave up for him.

  15. solid_rook7

    Because he’s an Impractical Joker.

He gotta focus on his show with his buds.

  16. ReddishScarab

We keep going after defensive coaches in an offense driven league lol.

  17. behappysometimes

Because he was also trash and had zero offensive identity whatsoever. This sub has the memory span of a hamster.

  18. twistedinnocence8604

Because Jeanie, Pelinka and LeBron won’t admit they made the mistake of getting Wesbrook and a bunch of geriatric role players that are no longer NBA material and it’s easiest to blame the coach

  19. toolmaker1025

Meanwhile westbrick is shooting 3’s on us without a shoe on.

  20. Prize_Salamander8035

That 2022 roster was a real shitty one lmao

  21. LeagueReddit00

Terrible coach for offense and can only coach a defense when he has multiple DPOY level players.

Glorified assistant who shouldn’t be a head coach. He lost the locker room and was the wrong hire in the first place.

  22. CHUN_BUNS

We’d still have the same problems. Our offense is shit. It was still shit with Vogel, did you forget? Our defense under him was otherworldly, but we don’t have the right personnel to be a top defensive team at the moment.

Other than AD, we have no rim protector, our wing defenders are 1-dimensional, and we have no POA defender. Having Vogel as our coach right now wouldn’t change a thing. Vogel had SEVERAL games that were also within reach that we lost due to poor rotations/management & offensive play calling, just like Ham.

Lebron & AD can’t be relied on too much down the wire when we need a bucket, because they’re not really iso scorers. We need a legit 3 level scorer and a legit backup big. Roster construction is still an issue. We are still one of the worse 3pt shooting teams and attempt the least amount of 3s in the modern NBA. That’s a problem.

  23. AdOutside6690

What a bad way to go. Vogel was literally working with most players that are not even in the league right now. Some that are left are warming bench in some team and you don’t even hear about them. Bazemore, melo, ariza, marc gasol, rondo, Wayne ellington. He was working with dog shit roster, and the FO fired him before the season could end. Fucking Ridicules!

  24. MikeHawkisgonne

Every post on this sub was about how bad this guy sucked for months.

  25. LastSaiyanLeft

he had his flaws but he got thrown under the bus alot

  26. Tall_Succotash

Well Jeanie and Co threw Vogel under the bus in another article not too long ago, saying they were disappointed Vogel couldn’t integrate Russ.

Just a mess of a situation

  27. He got fired for doing the same thing as Ham is doing now except he did it for a longer time period

  28. gameguyguru

The only thing I didn’t like about this firing was the way it was done. Which is why I think the lakers are going to be gentle with Ham. It was a bad look and we had a coach even say he didn’t want to consider us because of it! I mean I know the lakers will find a coach regardless but to fire one after he actually had a solid showing in the playoffs is just going to look bad again and mid season?! FO needs to show some support otherwise more coaches are going to avoid us! Just don’t expect a firing unless we miss the playoffs because that probably wouldn’t blow up in our face unless they do it the same way they did frank 😂

  29. Little-Geologist-754

There was no reason to fire Vogel. Bron didn’t stop it because he believed we’d get Ty Lue.

  30. Well, for starters, Vogel faced almost the exact same criticisms from casuals as Ham now faces. It’s the biggest r/lakers circle jerk since the “trade KCP/Kuzma/D.Green/Schroder.” I’m sure I’m missing someone…

  31. Because he had an 8th grade understanding of offense

  32. Happy-North-9969

The plan was to tank. They didn’t expect Lebron to keep rolling like this

  33. BackendSpecialist

Why did fans on this sub call for his head?

    Short sighted idiocy
