[Gary Washburn] I asked Joe Mazzulla about the East contenders (MIL, MIA) making moves to compete with the #Celtics — full quote in the post

I asked Joe Mazzulla about the East contenders (MIL, MIA) making moves to compete with the #Celtics. Here was his response: “I don’t think they’re competing with us. First of all, we haven’t won. So I don’t know why anyone’s competing with us. We haven’t won a championship since 2008. We’re certainly not the standard. We’re chasing people as much as people may say they’re chasing us. We don’t even look at it in that standpoint. We just have to keep that healthy balance of knowing we’re a really good teams but there’s also other really good teams and how we match up against them and how do we continue to get better as a team.”

Awesome answer by Joe imo

Great answer and that should continue to be the mentality. We’re the hunters.

I love this answer. Stay humble and hungry.

This quote is refreshing compared to the “we’ll do better next time” attitude we’ve seen over the last couple seasons. It feels in touch, sincere, and aware of what this team needs to do and earn vs just showing up and coasting and brushing off responsibility when its too late to try

I will go to war for Joe.

and by “war” I mean “watch The Town for 600 hours Clockwork Orange style”

If ya’ll don’t see what Brad saw in Mazzulla at this point in his tenure then it’s a lost cause. He’s been awesome this season imo.

Great response, and if you put in context how the defending champs broke our home streak last week, there are still a lot more things to be learnt and improved on in our journey to Number 18.

  7. Then he said you have to dribble a couple times and sometimes you have to shoot a ball and play defense. Captain obvious is not a coach

Great answer, we still have any Mazz haters in here?

The sad part is if we don’t win a championship Joe will take ALL the blame. He knows that

If Joe were to ever come up to me, I’m immediately asking him ‘Who’s car we takin?’

  11. He’s certainly a good coach, hope he’s able to get us over the hump

Sounds like hindsight, but I said it before the playoffs started. I really didn’t like the “Unfinished Business” t-shirts last year in the playoffs. It seemed a bit presumptuous and it felt like the team was a little too focused on fulfilling some sort of destiny than staying in the moment and playing hard. I think it’s a lesson they learned for this year.
