A bat is loose in the arena during Wolves Spurs, but the Spurs mascot is prepared with a net in full a Batman costume, and catches the bat. Spurs players congratulate him and examine the dead bat

The bat and the mascot are in cahoots. No way they had the net AND the costume ready for this. If you look at this diagram I made with yarn you can see how it all fits together…

Iā€™m so so glad I wasnā€™t high while watching that. Not sure my brain couldā€™ve handled it

  3. What is the deal with this? I remember when Manu knocked out a bat like 12 years ago. It seems bit out of pocket that the Spurs would release a bat mid game and pull a stunt like this, especially when they had possession of the ball. So whats up?

Do they have a bad problem and this is something they knew could happen today? So did they hire a bat catcher and dress them up to make a spectacle out of this? That’s my best guess.

How long before someone glues their hand to the court for the treatment of that bat?

The craziest thing to me is that you’ve got an arena full of people ntm pro athletes, and you’ve also got a possibly rabid bat, and they only send out one dude in a costume to get it. Seems like 4 or 5 people trapping the bat in formation would make more sense and possibly be more entertaining too.

  6. Why was the bat just cruising around half court? I obviously don’t think the Spurs had anything to do with this but it’s crazy that the bat didn’t try to get away from the guy waving the net at it.

    *Spurs fan here for context

we get bats every now and then in the arena (symptom of being near (i think?) one of the nationā€™s largest bat colonies)

the coyote keeps the costume accessible at all times near the court and staff radio in if they recognize a bat flying around

This isn’t even the first time that their mascot in a Batman suit with a net has been out there to catch these things. San Antonio’s home court has had many bats interrupt play. It is rather ridiculous.
