Can’t invest my time in my life and my viewing hours and my emotional energy into this team anymore I just can’t do it anymore and and that’s where people were with this team and then Luca goes out 73 points and the Mavs pull out that

Game they win the game they come up with a win and I really wanted to see how the Mavs fought back but I I did not want to see how the Mavs fought back the very first game after that Suns game that was the Hawks game I wanted to see how they

Would fight back in moments several games after this did it change anything did that lowest moment against the Suns where the Suns go on basically a 44 point swing in the middle of that game the maps just completely fall apart they looked embarrassed they just didn’t look

Like they have it the suns were running all up and down on them how did the Mavericks respond the next couple of games and so we saw in the Hawks game Luca incredible response 73 points still can’t believe that I’m saying that and then this game it looked like the

Mavericks were done I wrote down even even I wrote down and I listened to Luca say if you don’t believe you shouldn’t be here every single day in the O in the intro to this show that I do five days a week plus every post game

I even wrote down at the 10-minute Mark Dallas is done they don’t have enough juice for a comeback it was 78 to 101 at that point the Mavericks were down it just didn’t look like they had it it it to me it just didn’t look like they were going to

Have enough juice to make a 23-point comeback and they proved me wrong to be honest I’m I’m gonna give it to them even though they didn’t win the game they cut it to three with about 7even seconds left after Maxi kba hit that putback shot with the Grant Williams

Pass it it just was was a fight and a and a comeback and the Mavericks were not favored in this game let’s not pretend like oh can’t believe the Mavericks didn’t oh so upset I can’t believe the Mavericks didn’t win this game the Mavs were not favored they were

Two and a half Point underdogs at home they’re on the second night of a back toback they traveled they were in Atlanta the night before they’re missing essentially three starters Kyrie uh kind of a big one Dante exom Derrick Jones Jr was out as well Dwight pal still out

With the hit in the face he has an eye abrasion that he’s still out with and let’s not pretend like this team was supposed to win this game they were not the kings are better they’re a better team they were all healthy they were not

On the second out of a back toback and so they came in pretty rested and the Mavs were not supposed to win this game but you didn’t want them to go down 20 points like they did to look like you know make it look like their defense

Just didn’t have it couldn’t stop Fox couldn’t figure out a way to you know to to stop uh sabonis at times in this game you know they were hitting Corner three after Corner three they were like 50% from corner three at one point I don’t

Know what they ended up at as but you just didn’t want to see that from the Mavericks but you did not you shouldn’t have expected a win right let’s not let’s not pretend like they were supposed to win this game and so to see that kind of fight to see that kind of

Comeback for them to be down 20 even be down what what was that 23 at the beginning of the fourth quarter didn’t look like they have it didn’t look like they had another gear and for them to put together that kind of a comeback I’m taking it I’ll take it as a moral

Victory and a step forward for this team this season for the Mavericks is all about steps it’s about steps for them to take to take a step forward a step forward to figure out who can play to figure out who is a winning player for them to figure out what Luca and Kyrie

Are we’re having a hard time with that first one where what Luca and Kyrie are because they keep getting hurt and they keep not playing with each other Kyrie missed this game again and a couple fans talked to me today and said man I’m getting concerned about Kyrie one fan

Came up and said he’s almost like another porzingis yesh ehh that is that’s a tough one but it’s kind of true he’s he’s out for a bunch of games then he plays for a bunch of games then he’s out and you’re feeling you’re feeling good

When he’s back and then all of a sudden get some other kind of injury and so this is this is where the Mavericks are though now if you can’t figure out that and if you’re not GNA have your optimal team figure out who else is a player who

Else is a baller for you who else is going to be able to next season when they make a big move I think this summer take a step forward who is going to be there for you to help and did Grant Williams Show that tonight did Tim

Take the comeback and we’ll say that was that was well fought by the Mavericks we wanted to see some heart we wanted to see some hustle we wanted to see some some fight back and we did in this one Grant Williams Chief among them among the players on this team where we’ve

Said man can we just see something can we see some signs of life from Grant Williams can we look at the Grant Williams trade that they did where they still have a pick swap in 2030 that’s a long way away but they’ve got that still out there dangling out there when they

Brought him in I just said he’s got to at least be better than Reggie Bullock at the beginning of season it looked like he definitely was there was no way that it was going to be you know a bad signing or a bad trade and then there’s

Been a couple of weeks months maybe in the Middle where it just doesn’t look like he’s fully a starter in or doesn’t look like he’s a starter at all doesn’t look like he’s fully a rotation player at times for The Mavericks and then this game happens where Luca is getting all

The attention he’s coming off off a 73o night he’s getting double teams help is being sent to him more than more than ever and so they had to take advantage of some of that and Grant Williams was able to seven of 10 from three 27 points

He was leading them in points until the last couple of minutes where Luca hit some of hit some baskets Late Three assists for Grant Williams as well eight rebounds he was fighting with sabonis every time he got a switch on him three steals for Grant Williams like just an

Just a really really great game to see from Grant Williams who role player on the Mavericks hit the open threes fight on defense play you know be be aggressive be annoying on defense like switch and be able to handle some bigger guys you got all that you got all that

That’s the Grant Williams experience that game what we just saw from him and so I hope I hope hope hope and I know some of you hope too that that is signs of more things to come but I gotta I gotta see more I got I gotta see more of

It because he’s been disappointing and he’s he’s not played up to the level that he thought that he would we thought he would all come in and he even thought I’ll say it on him it’s not it’s not our expectations it was his expectations for

Himself to step into a bigger role to be a starter to be a guaranteed guy to come off your Ben or not come off your bench to start for you to guard some of the best players on the other team to be the guy that hits the open three that takes

Advantage of all the threes that Luca was going to get him and he just hasn’t done that in these last couple of weeks months and so to see him come out and have this sort of Breakout game maybe this is the game that he needed to

Sometimes I have to warn people about microaggressions sometimes sometimes that’s what the show is all right Isaac let’s get into uh how the Kings handled Luca Luca coming off that amazing 73o night he was nine of 26 so just 34% from the field one of nine

From three 28 points but he had 17 assists in this game 17 assists I think seven of them are to Grant Williams who had the seven threes but the Kings did what we’ve seen a lot of teams do they send a bunch of help to Luca they send

Doubles they send traps and then Luca has to get the ball out of his hands and then they send some of the traps they send some of the traps and help late and it’s like a delayed trap a delayed help where you’ve got one-on-one with Luca

And then right when he’s about to go into his move another Defender runs up and Luca’s got to make a split second decision even faster than if they sent the Trap earlier and I thought the Kings did a good job like I I thought I thought one Luca did not have the same

Amount of lift and force and uh speed he’s never gonna be a player to beat you with his speed that’s why some of his points and a lot of his buckets look hard sometimes because he’s just labor and that’s why he has to handle the ball

So much and do so many different things but but he didn’t have that he didn’t even have the amount of like lift and speed and burst that he would even normally have in this one you could tell he was tired at the end of the first

Quarter I noticed he usually goes he had with Kyrie out he’s been going out at about the two minute mark But at the three minute Mark in this game he he runs over to the he run he runs over the sidelines and he asks to come out and he

Just walked out and sat down and then he’s huffing and puffing and I was looking through my binoculars at him from where I sit and I could just see him go like just a just a big sigh of oh boy this is going to be a little bit harder

Of a game than I expected because he he put forth so much effort in that game against the Hawks it was not a a easy win for the Mavericks it was not necessarily an easy 73 points for as much as uh ESPN Stephen A Smith and all

Of them want you to think that it was an even is an easy 73 for him he had to put forth an exert a lot of energy to get there so he was tired you can definitely tell but I’ll give credit to the Kings I thought they did a good job on Luca

Containing him I thought um Keegan Murray did a really good job one-on-one definitely better than what sadique bay and what Jaylen Johnson did the night before and honestly Kevin herder was pretty good on Luca too just staying in front of him staying poised staying you know uh consistent in front of him not

Fouling uh that often and all that and so I I thought that they did a really good job so give credit to the Kings I think they’re a well- coached team I I love what Mike Brown has done with that that Kings team they’re not the best

Defense but I thought they played good defense tonight and when you take away Luca then all of a sudden the others have to beat you you have to get beat by you know Lively break breaking a trap or breaking a double or Grant Williams or Josh green and it just wasn’t

Necessarily happening as as well as the Mavericks wanted in the first three quarters and then the fourth quarter came and it just kind of broke open it was like oh the Mavericks remembered how to play off of all these doubles and all these traps they scored 40 points in

That one they had scored 25 in the first 24 in the second 26 in the third and then they broke it open in the fourth with 40 and it wasn’t just Luca going nuts he he had seven but drik Lively had nine we’ll talk about his impact here in

A second Grant Williams had three of his seven thre so he had nine Tim Hardway hit a couple of shots so he had seven Luca had seven um Seth Curry hit a couple of buckets after a really rough first half so he had five and the Mavericks they just got contributions

From the others and that’s how it broke open in that fourth if it had happened one quarter earlier this is a different result the Mavs win this game but it just they just couldn’t get there in that third quarter and they just kept every time they would go on a run the

Kings would go on a run and then it was like the Kings would go on a run the Mavs would respond the Kings would go on run the Mavs would respond and it just didn’t happen early enough in this one for the Mavericks but let’s talk about

Lively because it was interesting at the beginning like through the third quarter he had only played 19 minutes which didn’t seem like a lot but they weren’t they weren’t playing bigs too often in this game they would play uh they put Holmes and Maxi together in the first

Quarter I thought that was interesting we had never seen that before um but then they were just playing Maxi then they were playing small for a little bit K kid keeps trying to throw out that small ball lineup with Grant Williams at the five just to see if you get any more

Spacing advantage or shooting advantage or anything like that we just didn’t see it a lot but drik Lively had a really big impact in that fourth quarter I thought he was huge in that one four of four so he was hitting a bunch of shots two two rebounds those

Were big he had a steel two that was big he was you know didn’t have any block in the fourth quarter but he was affecting shots he was making a real big impact and he had some foul trouble early and anytime he has foul trouble early he had

A two quote unquote earlyish fouls like kind of early fouls anytime he has those fouls you’re just concerned that he’s gonna get taken out of the game either by kid or by himself and it was just good to see that he didn’t get taken out of this game fully and that kid realized

In the fourth quarter all right I’ve got to go to this guy and I’ve got to stick with him and he played all but 10 seconds basically the last 10 seconds of the game he played all but 10 seconds of this game in the of the fourth quarter

In this one and that was awesome you love to see it you love to see a rookie like that making an impact and kid going with him for all the talk that we’ve said about oh kid makes terrible decisions rotation decisions talk about omx here in a second but he played

Derrick Lively and he’s committed to Derrik Lively he started him since the beginning every time he’s available he plays and he’s managed his fouls for sure he’s maybe micromanaged them and not let him play through some of his fouling issues but I mean it he got his

Fifth foul with like three minutes left so he was not wrong like I don’t think kid was wrong to hold Lively for a little bit and then play him then he decided to play him all in the fourth that made it up if he had played him a

Little bit earlier in the third maybe the Mavs go on a run but you don’t know that and I don’t know that um but he definitely had an impact and it was definitely great to see the omx thing okay this is another thing I I didn’t really understand about this game is

That you don’t have Dante exom you don’t have Derrick Jones Jr you don’t have wings really in General on this team that are at least big and so we’ve been waiting on omx to really take his step forward and to really find a role in this team because he’s a big Wing he’s

68 69 I’m was standing next to him today and uh he’s just a big guy long arms and he represents the type of player that you really want on this team and when you’re down those type of players on the Mavericks on the injury report and he

Doesn’t play at all it’s kind of questionable I did see him warming up before the game and then when he was walking around he was not wearing basketball shoes so I think he may have known that he wasn’t gonna play in this game before I’ll do I

Don’t have the conspiracy button with me but I’ll just hit it I think maybe he knew that he wasn’t gonna play before but uh I would have loved to see him play AJ Lawson got got a little run he only played three minutes it seemed like he played more um

But he got a little bit of a run I wish that omx had gotten a little run too so the Mavericks could find some kind of Defense in this game and get some kind of blocks and especially when Fox was going off I just would have seen just

Try it like just try some length on him because Josh Green was having a hard time fighting around the sabonis screen sabonis is just such a good screener he’s really strong he’s you know they don’t they call him like the ax isn’t that his name don’t they call him the

Ax I think that’s right but I just would have like to see a little bit more size they miss Derrik Jones Jr chasing around a point guard like that on those screens because his length can really affect can really affect players like that so I

Wish we would have seen omx I wish we would have seen a little bit more of Grant of Derek Lively but I think kid probably made the right decision in that one because it ended up working out in the end Grant Williams let’s just hope that this is a Breakout game for Grant

Williams and we see more of this going forward and uh man magic coming up on Monday they have not played the greatest but this should be a good test for the Mavericks especially defending on the wings and we’ll see what happens but we’ll be back here you know that we’ll
