    GAME NOTES:

The last few games (besides the Hornets game) we have started so slow, and tonight was no exception. Our first quarter defense was awful, we were pretty average offensively, but just let Brooklyn get whatever shot they wanted and they hit everything.

John Collins was the best player for us tonight, he was the only one attempting to keep us in it in the third quarter. 15 points, 7-10 shooting, 7 rebounds (3 offensive), 1 assist, 2 steals in 21 minutes. He was active on both ends, but it isn’t a good sign when John Collins is the best player on your team.

Lauri Markkanen was really disrupted tonight. 13 points, 4-12 shooting, 1-4 from 3, 9 rebounds (4 offensive), 2 assists, 3 turnovers. He was a -19 in his 27 minutes. His shot wasn’t falling, he was taking some tough looks inside the arc and wasn’t able to break free from the perimeter. On defense, he was letting everybody by him. He was mainly tasked with guarding players like Cam Johnson and Bridges which is tough given his size, but he needs to be better. Rough rough game for Lauri.

Collin Sexton had an even worse game. 1-11 shooting, 0-2 from 3, 1 rebound 7 assists, 1 turnover, 6 total points tonight. It looked like he was moving too fast and couldn’t ever really decide what type of shot he wanted. There were a few times where it seemed like he was going 150% down the lane and just kinda throws up a floater or hook shot looking layup that isn’t a good shot. The two positives to his game was 7 assists to just 1 turnover, and the other was that [great defensive moment he had with Kris Dunn forcing a travel.](https://x.com/utahjazz/status/1752152130025030117?s=20) Other than that, it was hard to like his shooting and defensive game tonight.

Keyonte George had a good shooting night and hit a [tough floater against Bridges](https://x.com/JazzLead/status/1752158128022647041?s=20) that was pretty nice. He finished with a team high 21 points on 6-10 shooting, 3-7 from 3, 6-7 from the line, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, just 1 turnover as well. -19 in his minutes though. It’s hard for me to get a solid gauge on Keyonte. He hasn’t really strung together solid games consecutively which makes it hard to judge him. Still a rookie though with some fun flashes like a half-court alley-oop to Ochai which was very nice.

Walker Kessler had a pretty good game. 11 points, 4-5 from the field, 3-4 from the line(!!!!!), 7 rebounds (4 offensive), and 1 block. Claxton really got the best of him tonight though. Holly mentioned that Kessler may be on a minutes restriction due to a hammy injury, and idk if that’s true or not but at this point I’d rather have him sit out for two weeks and get back to 100% than get 15-20 minutes a night. He is too valuable to our defensive identity to not be playing more.

Simone couldn’t hit a shot tonight either. 2-9, 1-4 from 3, 4 rebounds, 1 block, 5 points. Only 2 or 3 of his looks seemed open and clean which is moreso credit to Brooklyn’s defense than a poor offensive scheme. Very unimpactful night.

Kris Dunn played great in his 17 minutes. 3-5 from the field, with all 3 of his makes being from 3 where he was perfect. 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals for 9 total points. 4 turnovers isn’t ideal, and it also isn’t ideal when Kris Dunn makes 1/3 of the team’s total 3PM tonight.

Jordan Clarkson had a mediocre game. 13 points, 5-10 from the field, 0-4 from 3, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 4 turnovers. Like Sexton, it looked like he was trying to do too much out there. Inside the arc he was pretty efficient, hitting some classic Clarkson shots, but his turnovers and perimeter shot selection was horrid.

Very meh game. I think that our main issue is defense. Our offense is fine, we just had 11 straight games of 120+ points scored (tied for second longest in NBA history (would’ve tied the record had we gotten to 120 tonight)), but our first half defense has been absolutely terrible. We were never able to overcome that hump and were down by double digits for the majority of the game.

Some specific negatives of this game: 9-26 from 3 (with George & Dunn combining for 6 of the makes….), 17 turnovers (resulting in 27 points to Brooklyn), we allowed Brooklyn to shoot 105 times, making 54 of them, we allowed 21-45 from 3, gave up 16 offensive rebounds, gave up 147 points, and only had 3 steals.

Some positives of tonight: Keyonte had 21, John Collins looked great…

Just frustrating that we allowed Brooklyn to have their way with us. Brooklyn shot an amazing 51/47/95, whereas we shot 45/33/79. Brooklyn had 54 made field goals and 41 assists, we had 39 made field goals and 23 assists. We allowed 50 rebounds, only got 44 ourselves. We had 17 turnovers, only forced 8. Our starters scored a combined 48, their starters scored a combined 88.

Like I said before, it’s a bad sign when John Collins is the best offensive player for your team.

    Damn. 24-24.

  2. My only takeaway from this is it looks like Key could be coming out of his slump. Really the only one who showed up tonight.

This was the worst performance of the season, and it’s extremely doubtful that things improve tomorrow night against one of the hottest teams in the league. For the second year in a row, we are probably going to be big ish sellers at the trade deadline. I just hope Hendricks can step up to replace the production lost by trading away some of the current rotation players, or at the very least give us flashes so we have a reason to have hope for the future.

  4. I feel like our zone defence heavily relies on how good shooting day the opponent has. Way too many open shots yet again..

JC and KO should be gone by deadline, Keyonte could become a productive scorer like cam Thomas with his ability to get to the line plus playmaking ability but he won’t get the reps and confidence if he plays with them all the time. Also should free up time for Hendricks, ochai and maybe sensabaugh.

It’s a rebuild season for sure, but this was a loss on all fronts. Energy was low, and the team ball was not happening.

I wonder if everyone is on edge? Trade deadline is coming up, sure there are rumors going around, in the middle of a long road trip. I would assume the team is tired.

But this loss is still embarrassing.

  7. On the positive side, looks like the Lakers are going to lose tonight also.

Hardy is such a badass “did i say something that bothered him?”

Insane how many road losses by 20 plus points.
