Luka has quietly (okay, not as quiet after the 73-point game, but) been averaging 37.5 ppg since the end of November. Many of these games have been without Kyrie, so he has had increased usage compared to the start of the season. After Embiid scored only 14 last night trying to play through injury and with Luka averaging 48.7 ppg in his last 3, the gap for the scoring title has narrowed. Luka is averaging 34.7 ppg for the year, and Embiid 35.3.

Luka is due. I believe he had as good an argument as any for MVP the past few years. Would be nice to see him get one. I know the team success is not quite there, but he wouldn’t be the first guy to win with a lower seeded team.

Meanwhile Embiid is a cool 200 total points behind the leader Shai and isn’t even in the top 5 for the season.
Luka is the MVP. He is doing the most with the least. Kyrie has missed 20+ games. Several other starters have missed extended periods. Sometimes he doesn’t play well, but nobody stops him.
He is also 3rd in assists per game, 9th in steals per game, and 23rd in rebounds per game.

Not trying to directly attack you OP but “quietly” is quickly getting high on my list of most annoying overused words by this sub. Somehow everything in the nba is quiet or under the radar or unnoticed. I can assure you that everyone in the nba is aware of Luka and what he is doing. I don’t think any superstar is ever “quietly” doing anything. It should be saved for the roleplayers who are having breakout seasons.

I would add also that the 76ers are currently 5th in the East, while the Mavs 7th but can still climb a bit up to the 5th place at least.
Having watched my fair share of Mavs game this year just because I love watching Luka, I honestly don’t know how he averages so many assists when his teammates continue to brick wide open shots.
I honestly think he has the worst supporting cast in the league of any star player and I’m not even sure if it’s arguable. Kyrie is fine when healthy but the rest of the team is so incredibly painful to watch.
