Available in your feeds right now kind of close up shop here the Hawks do play again on Friday and then I get on Saturday so we’ll have full coverage of that coming up and without any further delay here’s myself and Andrew with part two of two I want to ask you about some

Of the other guys on the margins but I do want to kind of get into one thing that I knew you probably thought we were going to talk about at some point and that’s the fact that Mike Scot reported and I’ve heard the same that the Hawks

Are also looking to shed future payroll without taking back money in the future to avoid the tax next season that was a direct report from Mike about the jont Murray talks this is a pet peeve of mine of course the Hawks have continuously and consistently avoided the tax um and

Yeah the team this year is not the currently constructed team is is not very good and that’s I understand all that but they’ve that’s partly because they’ve already sold some guys uh for money purposes Etc and if you look ahead I know you know this Andrew I’m just for

The listeners like they’re already basically going to be at the tax line for next year without sadique Bay under contract so if they don’t want to pay the tax and that’s not a opinion thing for me if they don’t I’m saying if not when but even I think it’s when but if

They don’t want to pay the tax they have to cut money between now and next season whether that means not not signing sadique whether that means trading capella or trading hunter or trading Murray or trading bogy or maybe more more than one of those guys um if that

Is the goal or the Mandate I know I know the Hawks don’t love that wording that I use sometimes but if that’s a mandate from above to not pay the tax that’s part of this too and it means that they don’t have to again they don’t have to

Do it now but they have to do something between now and the end of July into August if they have to try I shouldn’t say have to if they want to avoid the tax so like we kind of we that that conversation around our talk already but

Just to throw that out there and see what you think of that in general because like every framing kind of has to be through like the hwks are not going to take all money any of these deals they’re gonna if they do they’re take on a little bit of money it’s not

Going to be like they’re adding payroll it’s going to be that they’re trying to subtract payroll while making the mov on the margins which makes it harder it doesn’t make it impossible but if every deal has to be viewed through hey we can’t take we can’t we can’t take on

Money for next year it’s not great no it’s not and um when you look at the deals they can make like we mentioned you know the Murray and Reeves type deal like you’re taking your own money there maybe with a capella like Burton’s example for example you could

You could kind of come off some money there but it’s hard to just come clean off you know cheaper in those deals by the way if ifes they they would save money it wouldn’t they wouldn’t take it take it all the way but all these moves

That we’ve kind of laid out there people that the Murray Reeves won the Murray Russell won the capella BR all those moves non- coincidentally save the Hawks money next year you know what I mean we kind of know how this is gonna go I think I think if there’s one like kind

Of key long-term money like saving move to make that is at least justifiable I think it’s really got to start with DeAndre Hunter um he’s got three years left on his deal um he’s missed about half the season with injury he’s really been an inconsistent player the entire

Time in Atlanta I mean there’s been multiple times where I’ve thought that he’s turning the corner and it just has not happened even this year he was playing well for for went down he he played where he’s uh he’s improved his shot profile under Snider I I think he’s

Clearly bought into how he wants him to play offensively so that’s encouraging but I mean when you look at his injury history like he he just physically does not look like the same dude to me even like two or three years ago man like it’s funny like when he came into the

League like his reputation was like as an on ball Defender like somebody who has a lot of upside as an all ball stopper and that is no longer his like calling card on defense anymore it’s actually team defense like that was his weakness as a prospect and it’s flipped

Now but it’s it’s funny if you go back and watch like Synergy or you know like NBA stats highlights uh he just does not look like the same guy physically defending anymore and that’s really concerning to me because he’s 26 like this is not something that should be a

Problem right now yeah with three years left on his contract and just you know you look through the metrics on him what he’s been to this point even if there’s some bright patches with Snyder I think if you have an option to kind of you know pull the rip cord on Hunter’s

Contract I think that is a really obvious one to point to but it’s also I think he’s even tougher than some of the other guys you know like capella you know he’s he’s only got one year left on his deal and he’s somebody that can upgrade the center position for

You in a playoff run he’s a veteran like there’s a lot of things that you could like about capella with Hunter is just you know he’s still a you know a potential guy even you know going on his fifth year um so that’s really problematic there and you know it’s

Funny like when when I’m looking around at teams it’s just You’ almost have to find like somebody that’s just like like a sucker honestly you know that is willing to take that take that on like um there is potential possibly to like see how he recovers from his injury and

Um maybe his play um continues to improve a little bit and you can rehab his value a bit but it’s it’s becoming harder for me to be optimistic about him and that’s really a guy that I would have circled as somebody that if you can get off him longterm and improve your

Money situation that’s really the guy I would you know pinpoint yeah like you said it’s It’s tricky because in theory you just take the names away from these guys it would be easier to move the 68 you know 26 year old forward who can play defense

And shoot than it would be to move the Aging Center in the modern NBA but like you said Capella’s deal is shorter he’s more established you kind of know what you’re getting with from from capella uh Hunter has the injury stuff I think it would have been um from what I’ve heard

Even it would have been a little bit easier to consider moving Hunter had he not been hurt at the time he has been hurt this year I know he’s back as of now he played in the last game but it’s really hard to kind of like build a

Market for a guy who is not playing especially if it’s a guy who has not proven himself at the highest level which Hunter has not done so like could there be a team that jumps in in the next week for Hunter I think that’s certainly possible but I the fact that

He got hurt when he got hurt it Miss all that time really it really makes it harder to trade him in season I think there’s also a school of which which isn’t crazy that maybe you just hope that he can stay healthy the rest of the

Year and he will just finish the season and I think if he plays the way he play pre-injury it would probably be his best season overall and maybe you go to the summer and be like okay now we see what’s going on here and you know part

Of it again is that short-term versus long term Hunter’s been PR sorry Quin Sider has been pretty effusive about the fact that they were they’re so small without Hunter and Johnson when they’re both out when both out and like it’s been one of the few things that Quinn

Has like opened up about in a pretty candid way to the media is like I think he values that defensive size on the wing and they they just don’t have ites that doesn’t mean that you’re married to Hunter long term but he is the only guy

On this roster that does what he does you know Jaylen does more of it now but jaylen’s still playing the foremost of the time Hunter is their only big defense first wing on the whole team and you know bay is what he is uh Bogie’s a great player but bogie is certainly more

Of a two and more of an offensive player like Hunter for all his warts and all of his shortcomings kind of is the only quote unquote three and D guy they have and it’s like this interesting parallel where most teams don’t want to trade that guy away but to your I’m not I’m

Not disagreeing with you it’s just like in a vacuum he’s exactly what you would want it’s been the problem with Hunter the whole time for five years is that he’s actually the skill set that you want it’s just that it’s not always fully formed he’s not always been there

He’s not played that well for large portions of his career so it’s a weird yeah it’s like you know two things can be true like he can be an important player to them just based on the relative lack of options and also he could be someone that when you think

About a big picture this is a guy that um you might try to move if you have the opportunity so it’s just a counter to that like I think is it it’s sort of like an indictment of the team building process to end up in a situation where

You really just have like this one guy that has size I know it’s not easy to find like six eight guys in the NBA that can you move around but not having um any other perimeter Defenders I think is just sort of indictment of how they they

Built this team to where you are really reliant on a guy that has had perennial knee problems but you know I’m just like becoming kind of a skeptic that he’s just gonna pull it all together physically at this point so it’s just I can see that hard it’s knes to that

That’s it’s a tricky was it’d be almost better if he had been banged up in like a variety of ways like right the fact the fact that it’s it’s been his knees the whole time is a little bit it’s scary I mean he missed more time than

They thought he was probably going to miss this time I know he just came back and looked okay in one game that we’ve seen him play so far but yeah I I think you’re right I think it’s a weird spot for them um this is a young front office

And I don’t know how they’re going to navigate that to be honest with you so I think like this I think the scenario that you laid out is is pretty much how they could approach it like I there’s not going to be a hot market for DeAndre Hunter at the deadline most likely

You’re gonna hope that he can stay healthy and you know continue to integrate to Quin Snider system you know increase his value and then reassess in the summer like they’re not going to make you know multiple you know shifting trades like that like a Murray trade a

Capella trade a hunter trade like even if like fans might want that you know there’s just not going to be enough options at the deadline with teams that are looking to make moves like that um but I do think that that’s just somebody that you keep coming back to as far as

Like somebody that can affect their their long-term team building process and you know you don’t you know we already know like this ownership’s habits with spending so you want to have at least some guys or you don’t want to have some guys that are already put

Pushing against the line you know like a hunter that’s already like pushing you towards the luy tax and you’re not getting a lot of Roi there you know that just kind of gives them an out so I think that he’s just one of those guys you keep coming back to as somebody that

If you have a good option H I would I would seek to take it there Today’s Show is brought to you by priz piix and priz piix is the largest DFS platform North America and also the most easy easy and exciting way to play daily fantasy sports a prize picks you

Pick two to six players and then choose whether they have more or less than a projection in a ton different categories across the board what if it’s 25 time the money on your entry and you got col projections that actually allow you to choose two or more players from

Different sports or different leagues at the same time and they have huge selections of sports and Stat types not offered anywhere else they have projections on the NFL NBA MLB when that’s in season NHL and much more they have a reboot policy as well at price

Piix and they are the only DFS platform with an injury insurance policy I’ve really enjoyed checking out price piix for quite some time now I’m downloading the platform every single day and honestly even during the NFL season as well College basketball Etc and I’ll be I’ll be there throughout the season and

Beyond and on the whole the experience is really fantastic it’s easy it’s fun I recommend it at the highest level and the place to go is prize.com lnba and use code lck on NBA first on buet match up to $100 one more time the place to go is prize.com lockon NBA and

Use code locked on NBA when you get there check out DFS Made Easy with prize piix yeah we’ll move on I just wanted to say one more thing like even the team teams that I know we’ve talked about in the past even on hunter that have been

Interested on him uh have kind of gone away as potential Landing spots like Indiana was always a sleeper team for De Ray Hunter and they went out and got Pascal skum so they’re not going to trade for de R Hunter at this point Cleveland has been out has been out

There for a long time about Hunter and they’re playing really well right now Isaac aoro has gotten better like they’re not trading for down Hunter this year either so those are like two of the top three or four teams that I’ve always heard about Hunter and they’re not

Really there for you anymore so you you need a buyer uh it is what it is and I think um if I had to guess he probably sticks around but look everybody’s available as we discussed multiple times um before I get out of here I want to Le

Bring up the other guys that we not talked about uh bogy I did talk about briefly but I’ve reported this scot rep this as well he seems to be less available than the than the other guys the other role players they seem to just really like boki and I don’t I don’t

Blame them to be honest B’s a really really valuable player his shooting is extremely valuable he is maybe the best bench player in the league overall you can debate that if you want to but he’s on he’s high on the list and he has um crucially a declining very team-friendly

Contract has a team option on the end of it Etc on the other side though he is older and he would also be very easy to move in contrast to Capella or Hunter they could move bogy in about five seconds I I I firmly believe that so

Were you kind of stand on this like are will you just hang on to Bogi and kind of have him be part of your next step or is it like hey this guy’s getting up there in age and we could actually sell on him now before maybe he has another

Injury or whatever’s going on like that like where’s your mindset on bogy right now you know I think it’s interesting because when you look at like the Hawks history with extensions just going back to the schlank era it has not been great and at the time when they offered that

You know he was still mired in these knee problems and they’ve seemingly you know KN going wood like they have not flared up since and he looks better than ever I mean he’s having an excellent age 31 season um like you said I mean he’s definitely in the discussion at least

For best spins player in the NBA I I think he should be one of the Front Runners for six man of the year if not the front runner um that said with where the Hawks are you can’t really Mark many guys off limits you know a 31 player a

30 age 31 player who’s very good is a nice luxury to have and with the contract that he’s on it’s something that is appealing um so it it is something where you want to at least entertain offers but going back to our initial conversation um I don’t think

That they’re really going to bottom this team out I don’t think that Trey is gonna co-sign sending out valuable role players um that elevate his game you know when you’re the type of distributor that he has it’s got to be great playing with a guy like bogy who can finish

Plays to the way that he does um who can carry uh offensive load too Off the Bench so I I think that they probably will stand Pat and I think it’s reasonable if you get an offer that’s you know too good turn down I think you

Do still take that just because of where they are um but with that said I think it does make a lot of sense just to kind of Stand Back stand Pat retain some pieces so you don’t you’re not starting from scratch essentially in the offseason you know you still want to

Have some of your good players around and Bogie’s a guy that fits with the two guys that I see is most important like we said Trey and Jaylen um so he is somebody that I kind of Veer towards just holding on to for now unless you

Get an offer that’s too good to pass up yeah I think we’re on the same page there also the we’ve kind of seen what’s happened to the Hawks sometimes when they don’t have enough shooting and bogy is the one guy on the team honestly that is like an

Unequivocal Big Time shooter now they have other guys that can shoot don’t get me wrong but like bogie is clearly the best shooter on the team other than you know Garrison’s a really good shooter too but he’s more of a low-end fringe guy uh bogie is their one Dynamite

Shooter and like I think you definitely want to have that to your point around Trey and Jaylen and I think that he is in the tier of available that is much less available um I’ve kind of put put it this way before it’s kind of like TR and Jaylen unavailable and then they

Have this tier of guys where I’ll be surprised if they get traded and it’s like Kobe buffkin aong wo and then maybe bogi’s in that tier maybe he’s in the tier by himself and then you kind of get into the next one down which is like everybody else basically includes

Capella Hunter and then this guy which is uh sadik bay who’s not been really out there in trade stuff at all and I know he’s had a shooting slump Quinn seems to like sadik sadik’s a guy that I think the Hawks like in general they

Traded for him a year ago um he is a very useful player even when he’s not shooting the ball well but uh he’ll be a free agent this summer and I I wonder if it was me if I would just at least keep the phone line open on

Sadik doesn’t mean you have to trade him but um especially again not going back to it for 100th time but if they don’t want to pay big money for him it only takes one team to blow you out of the water with an offer we saw with the

Hawks and timway Jr only a few years ago where the Knicks got an offer in on hard junr to take him away from the Hawks that was like a shockingly high number that they were not prepared for and they had they had to just let him go

And that it’s not the end of the world for a role player to leave you like that but I think if if they’re not prepared to go to a you know 15 16 1718 million a year deal on sadik Bay if they don’t want to do that they should consider

Trading him because somebody’s probably gonna give him that kind of money yeah I think he’s like a sneaky trade name where there hasn’t really been a lot written about him but then you know on trade deadline day you might see your notifications like oh sad Sadi

Bay got traded and I don’t think that would really surprise anybody even if he hasn’t been connected into any rumors so far when you look at what they paid for him they got you know I think it was five second round picks for him um second round picks like they you don’t

Want to just give away a ton of them but they they can be got you know pretty easily so that’s something that you you can recoup and you know replenish over time um I think that he does he just has those flashes you know where I really

Like the way he can fit in Snider’s offense because he does do like the little things like whole offensive rebound um we saw how that came into play the other night in a win um so he’s somewhat I could see them kind of hanging on to and just um using leverage

In his restricted free agent Market you know like that’s definitely a big tool that you want to take advantage of teams are more hesitant to try teams with that so you could kind of take him to the summer and just see how it goes with his

Market like is he gonna have a hot Market I tend to not think so and you could kind of evaluate uh how do how you want to play it there um but he’s somebody you know if I don’t really have a strong opinion on so if if he’s if

They if the Hawks have a deal coming on trade deadline day they like it like it’s it’s fine to send him off but also makes a lot of sense to take it to the summer and you know use the restricted process and just uh evaluate the market

There Today’s Show is brought to you by FanDuel sports book and happy Super Bowl week to all who celebrate from FanDuel America’s number one sports book Super Bowl Sunday is now almost upon us about a week and a half from now and it’s all about scoring the best seat on the couch

For sure and I think that he is a guy that might get a little bit squeezed but he’s also a 67 forward who’s proven he can shoot it at a reasonable level I think his defense is not good but teams may not know that as well as the Haw D

Probably at this point in time so like he could get picked off and uh I just think that he should be at least in consideration the other guy me with me like I I like Bae as a bench player I don’t like him as a starter so just kind

Of that’s kind of what it comes down to agree I I agree wholeheartedly and by the way the Hawks weren’t going to start him I think you know the he’s been starting for a while now because of Hunter’s absence but he wasn’t I mean I know they started the beginning of

Season I kind of called they were going to do that over Jaylen and of course that didn’t last very long but I think the ideal version of this Hawks team Bay is the seventh or eighth man which is kind of what he is that’s what yeah if we get to the

Summer with him and you can lock him up on a deal for you know Vince player money not starter money then I’m I’m you know I’m fine with keeping cting bear yep I agree with that uh last guy and I promise I’ll let you get out of here in

A second um the only other player that’s been named in any rumors that I have seen and I think you look at this stuff as much as I do is AJ Griffin and AJ is a complicated case we will probably never know all the backstory about why

He was gone for a few weeks from the team he is of course nowhere close to playing right now um every indication of that both you know and what they’ve done the messaging Etc like he’s just not close to rotation right now I know he’s the guy who had a really good rookie

Season he’s still really young and you don’t want to bail on that guy too early but it’s been out there in The Ether it’s been reported and I’ve also heard things like the Hawks taking calls on him I think it would not be a surprise

At all if he was traded in the next week um what do you think of that as someone on the outside I mean I’m very close to it so maybe I’m you know too plugged in but as a uh more of an outsider than I

Am I know teams by the way before I let you answer this question teams on the like teams or team Personnel are like confused by this they’re like why is he not playing I get question about this all the time and it’s hard to answer because like you know on on the surface

He was really good as a rookie at 19 he’s a wing shooter that everybody needs and he’s just buried so like it’s a sport situation but what what do you think about this yeah I think that the Direction with AJ Griffin has been one of the most surprising developments just period in

The Hawks over like the last nine months when you look at how polished he was as a rookie and the upside that he showed it’s just really disappointing that he’s can’t get time at all um I think it’s just worth mentioning too that you know his nephew passed away unexpectedly over

This summer and there is a lot of you know tweets you know I think we’re all aware of that came out uh around that time too um I think he’s just somebody that’s just been going through a lot just off the court I mean these guys are

Not just machines you know I think that’s an important thing to to keep in mind when we watch them like it’s an entertainment product but these are real people they go through stuff and I think that that’s definitely true with AJ Griffin I you know I think taking time

Away from the team is part of it um long term I’m I’m still a big believer in his skill set as somebody that can be a really valuable player um but it’s just you know you and I as even if we you know know some things we are

Disconnected from the teams we don’t know the day-to-day process um so it’s hard to really make a true assessment of him it could be a situation where you know it might be best for him to find another team and if that’s the process you know if I was the executive I might

Try to help him along with that and see what could be done um but it’s just really hard you know as Outsiders uh for us to really assess like what’s going on there but it is disappointing you know like when you look at the season he had

Last year and you expect expect to see some improvement upon that just where he is now where it’s wouldn’t be a surprise to be traded like it’s it’s rough it’s rough it’s hard to really make a call there though yeah we just don’t know we’re not going to know I do know that

There have been talks about AJ um that’s been reported too but like I I can pretty much confirm that um and like I said it wouldn’t be shocking to me if he got traded um you don’t want to give him away I I’ll say that I don’t think it’s

Hard it’s hard to know it’s different than someone like Jaylen Hino which we talked about earlier who was drafted a year ago and just hasn’t played AJ was drafted two years ago but he was a oneandone player who had a very good rookie season so it’s not like he’s

Never played in the NBA before like this year he’s not playing but he showed a lot last year and I think that uh you do not want to just give that guy away so like you know if you don’t get what you want for him you don’t have to trade him

I I do also wonder like if the trade deadline’s kind of like a marker of what they’re going to do with him like because you know there’s been talk about him going to College Park I’ve floated that as an option I think he should probably play down there maybe he’ll go

Down after the tra deadline if that happens cuz like he’s just not playing basketball right now which is just odd so uh yeah it’s it’s an interesting week I mean that’s not the most high-profile thing going on with with the Hawks right now you have Deon certainly taking up

Most of the oxygen and then you got beyond that like the secondary stuff like Hunter and capella and the whole you know idea of direction of the team but AJ is really intriguing because like if if I was another team I would be looking to B low honestly like not

Knowing again the situ situation behind the scenes he’s a pretty intriguing byow candidate for if I’m another team cuz the shooting plays and again like even if he’s limited defensively he’s still a 6667 wing who could shoot it and create his own shot like those guys don’t grow

On trees so it’s notable yeah I think if you’re another team you have to be very interested you just have to go back to what you saw in this rookie season it’s hard to assess like what all is going on in Atlanta that might have led to him

Not getting time but just when you go back to his rookie year if you’re a buyer I think you have to be very interested and as you know as the Hawks I think he is one of the toughest guys to kind of set a sale price you know on

Him because he definitely looked like one of the steals of the draft last year like in the early returns and now it’s very hard to assess like where he stands so we just don’t have the all the information I think to really be able to make a call there

Ultimately yep we are on the same page there Andrew I’ve taken up a lot of your time on this Thursday evening um do you have any predictions and I’m not going to make you do anything crazy if you don’t want to but before we get out of

Here I’ll give you the floor if you want to if you want to call your own shot here but I feel like we we’ve covered most of what’s going on uh and how uncertain it all is and I’m all I’m always going to go back to my crutch of

Like trades are hard to make and uh it won’t shock me if they don’t do anything which is going to make man I don’t I don’t want to live in the world a week from now if they don’t make any trades because Hawks fans are gonna be coming

After me like it’s my fault it’s gonna be awesome yeah I think I I will call my shot I’m gonna go ahead and I’m gonna say the Hawks do very little at the deadline just just to make make fans you mad this listen to an hourong podcast of

Us going through trade scenarios but I could just see them going on a little bit of a run and making them change their minds and they end up doing something small yep uh that you know wouldn’t surprise me I think a Murray deal Could Happen still um I am certainly lower on

My confidence meter of a Murray trade happening than I was two weeks ago two weeks ago I was in the 70 80% range like it felt like was imminent at times like I got I got a call a couple weeks ago that was like Hey be on alert for auray

Trade today kind of thing and happen one of those teams too with that you know they could lose a game and then the next day like all right let’s make the move like they can make B decisions off small samples like that I was going to say or

They go out and win the next three in a row and that’s that’s why they don’t do anything so this is a it’s a tenuous time again we’re recording this podcast about a week ahead of the deadline so a lot could still change rumors could

Still pop up but uh a good kind of preview and I appreciate you doing it with me Andrew uh I know you don’t tweet that much these days but you’re still on on Twitter SLX anything else to plug go ahead and share anything you’d like to

My friend no you can hit me up on there uh send me a DM sometime if you want to chat on there um yeah I I enjoy uh inter inter acting with fans a lot it’s cool to see a lot of the same faces you know replies and and things like that I

Really appreciate engagement there and um it’s fun even you know if it hasn’t been a great Hawk season I still think that there’s some things to look forward to yeah I agree it’s still an intriguing team to follow cover root for if you are and so inclined to do that and uh thank

You again my friend for doing this with me I’m sure I’ll bug you to do this once again probably in like late June or something before the next uh flurry of transactions happen or nonr transactions happens to happen around this Hawks team so thank you for doing this Andrew as
