The things it looks like he seems to be finding out um with the Detroit Pistons as of late I know a lot of people have pointed out that the Detroit Pistons are playing better um as of late over the last like 10 nine or 10 games since they

Made the trade with Isaiah livers and Marvin Bagley sending them to Washington for Danilo galinari and Mike muscala something that we talked about in the last episode um but something we saw and we we’ve seen a little bit of it through the last few games but something you saw a lot in

This game against the Cleveland Cavaliers was the use of Danilo galinari at the back of five position for the Detroit Pistons I thought that was the most interesting and best wrinkle that Monty Williams utilized in this game against the Washington Wizards now obviously it helps that Danilo went four

Four from three and at least two of them won some wild shots um it helps that he had 20 points in this game and played the best game he’s probably played in at least two years um since before his injury uh so he’s playing well for the

Detroit Pistons but utilizing him as the back of five not only allows the Pistons to try to play five out if they’d like it also allows them to play assar Thompson at the four position and the balance between assar Thompson and danil galinari is danil galinari provides

Spacing so now assara can roam inside the paint he can play in the dunker run pick and roll he can dive towards the basket and not have to worry about being crowded while also assar makes up for denil galari on the defensive and assar is a really good rebounder for his

Size for his position uh he’s going to make up for it on that end he provides some weak side Rim protection he’s a really good Defender so ginari may not be the greatest rebounder he may not be the best defender but if you play him with assar Thompson who was second on

The team in this game and rebounds and who has been a really good rebounder all year he kind of helps him on the defensive end so danil gar helps him on the offensive end and assar makes it happen on the defensive end that duo was really really impactful in this game

Assar was a plus 19 in this game and denil galari was a plus 13 in this game those two guys played really well um for the Pistons in this game so I won’t be surprised at all to see I won’t be surprised at all to see

This this Duo play a lot moving forward especially with Mike muscala out with the concussion I don’t know how long he’s going to be out um but especially with him I think that was by far the the most interesting and I think the best wrinkle that uh that that that Monty

Williams has done in that game against the Washington Wizards uh or not the Washington Wizards against the Cleveland Cavaliers I’m sorry um the other thing that everyone is very much a fan of is this is the first game I believe that Monty Williams and strip decided to not

Play Killing hay not because of injury not because of you know just getting back from injury or something like that that he just did kilan Hayes was a DMP in this game Marcus Sasser played nine minutes Monte Morris played 16 minutes um Monte Morris had a really good game

Um eight points two assists in just 16 minutes of action was a plus 16 on the floor the bench played really well in this game against the Cleveland Cavaliers but just not playing kilan Hayes at all was a big fan favorite um decision by Monty Williams and for

Someone who had believed in Killian Hayes like myself we’ll talk about him a little bit later with their experiment being done for the last month or so I’ve said it on the podcast numerous times Killian wasn’t even looking at the basket he like he was shooting like I

Think three times a game like you can’t he you can’t be on a basketball floor if you’re just not going to look at the basket so his time to be out of the rotation had been it had been a few weeks um for a lot of people even myself

To be like yeah it’s it’s time for him to leave the to leave the lineup and give this opportunity to Marcus Sasser we talked about that in the episode I believe like a week and a half ago I said Marcus Sasser is at the top of the

P or more more towards the top of the Piston developmental uh priority list than obviously killan Hayes is so it’s time to give him the minutes and in this game Marcus Sasser and Monte Morris got those minutes um so that was the other thing that a lot of people like

Obviously James wisman didn’t play he has not played a lot at all since the trade they’ve went a lot with Mike muscala at the backup five they went a lot with Danilo galinari at the backup five um and that’s really been helping the Detroit Pistons and another thing

That Monty Williams did in this game that fans loved was the first half of this game I feel like Jay iy had the ball in his hands more more than I’ve ever seen him have the ball in his hands when sharing the floor uh with K Cunningham um in the

First half he had 10 points he had two assists to three turnovers it didn’t take care of the ball very well but the Pistons as a whole outside of Kate actually Kade was the only one without a turnover in this game the P had 17 as a team but everyone everyone across the

Board was just really sloppy with the ball Duren bonovich uh Alec Burks like these guys were just really sloppy with the ball but Ivy was four or five in the first half had 10 points really play I thought a fine first half but was he had

The ball in his hands a lot and was making a lot of decisions in the second half not so much um he ended the game with only seven shots he only ended the game with four assists but in the second half kage started to wake up a little

Bit in that third quarter for Kate Cunningham uh he went two for two he had four assists to six points zero turnover so Kate started to get the ball in his hands a little bit more he started to play and get things going that probably

Had to had to do with it as well sure fans want to see even more of a balance between those two guys throughout a game not just for a half but just throughout a game want to see a little bit more balance a little more of a yiny between

Uh between Jay Ivy and K Cunningham but I think the Pistons are inching closer to that I think they’re trying to figure it out Monty Williams is trying to figure out so um I think all those things are are positives looking forward for the Detroit Pistons for the rest of

This year however I don’t think it was a perfect game by Monty Williams I think there was one big mistake that he had had made in this game um and it continues to be the use of assar Thompson so with seven minutes and 30 seconds to go in this game in the fourth

Quarter the Pistons were up 105 to 100 assar Thompson came into the game in the third quarter with 209 left played all the way until the 7:30 Mark of the fourth quarter he was a plus 14 in those minutes he was playing exceptional exceptional on the defensive end playing

Really well offensively moving around crashing into the paint making the right passes he was playing extremely well and then at the seven minute and 30 Mark I tweeted this out as it happened I said assar was brought out with seven minutes and 30 seconds to go I’m interested to

See what the plus minus will be the rest of the game Donan Mitchell came in at the same point and six minutes later the Pistons were down 12618 and donin Mitchell had scored 13 points since assar Thompson came out so the Pistons were outscored by what was it 13 points I

Said they had a five-point lead and they were down down by eight so yeah they out scored by 13 points in that spree s assar went out with 7 minutes and 30 seconds to go and they were trying to guard Davin Mitchell with K Cunningham trying to guard him with Jay Ivy and

Davin Mitchell just had his way when your best defender is on your bench and he’s playing really well the Pistons just didn’t utilize them I think that lost them the game assar Thompson Maybe Can’t Stop diam Mitchell but I think he sure as hell could have tried and he

Would have a good shot at it assar is a really great defender on Ball and he was playing a really great defensive game in this one against the Cleveland Cavaliers so I think while Monty seems to be figuring out some things which is a positive figuring out how to use lineups

Figuring out how to to put spacing under the floor in this game he started Mike muscala at the four so he’s really went with full-on spacing he’s really trying to find those lines offensively so I think that’s a positive it seems like he’s trying to get Jane Ivy involved

More that’s a positive I still think they’ll struggling to find a way to play ascar Thomson impactful minutes and for long stretch of the game because of how concerned he is about making him fit offensively I think that’s something he that is is going to continue to be a

Topic of discussion for me and I think it’s going to continue to be a mistake of Monty to not play assar Thompson more especially in games like this where he’s playing a really good game and then the player on the other team that he would be guarding starts going off and ends

And and turns your lead into an eight-point lead for the other team an eight-point deficit so I I think Monty’s learning and you’re starting to see him do some things with this Squad um it maybe took way too long not maybe it definitely seems to have taken a little

Bit too long it’s February this has the worst record in the NBA um the trade did have to happen to get those kind of get that kind of personnel so I guess maybe you give him a pass with that um but as much as you’re seeing some improvements

And some new wrinkles that I like I think the Asar Thompson issue continues the rear its ugly head I think Monty really needs to get a handle of on assar Thompson how he wants to utilize him and playing with impactful minutes especially in situations like he like

Court um Ro Adrian wowski tweeted out earlier today that they will be without Isaiah Stewart for the next 10 to 14 days where he will be re-evaluated so it could be longer we we know how that goes with the Pistons in two weeks he’ll be reevaluated maybe he’s on another week

After that maybe another two weeks after that who knows but that’s when he will be re-evaluated um Stu has been bidden by the injury bug lowkey the last two years um he suffered an injury last year that made it to where he only played 50 games this year he’s had numerous

Injuries he’s dealt with an angle injury twice he’s missed multiple games on one two three occasions and now he’s out again um so I wonder how many games he’s going to play this year um and it is something to keep your eye on with steu this is now back-to-back years where it

Looks like he’s you know going to play I mean I don’t know how many games he ends up playing this year but he’s not going to play I I’d assume 60 games this year um he’s probably gonna fall I’d say probably in between 50 to 55 games

Played this year because of this um just stay T just pay attention to that for moving forward Isaiah Stewart I me really all the Pistons bigs the Pistons bigs have been struggling with ankle injuries the last like two years I don’t know what’s going on him and Jaylen

Durren um but I I I hope Sue can get healthy and not just next year but just moving forward in his career hopefully these two years are just like a one-off and he can you know put together some healthy Seasons consistent healthy Seasons moving forward for the Detroit

Pistons but it’s not just St who is now out m muscala in this game against the Cleveland Cavaliers early in the game suffered a concussion I I don’t know we don’t know how long he’s going to be out either but he’s definitely going to miss probably the next game um I don’t know

How long their concussion protocol is how long they’re gonna hold him out for that but I’d assume he’s at least going to be out for this Clippers game for sure um tomorrow um what does this do to the Detroit Pistons what what how is this going to

Impact them well I I think this the Pistons have not been a good basketball team obviously but I don’t want to make it sound I’m making excuses for him I’m not any excuses they are horrible and front office should be held accountable like there’s no excuse at all for this okay

Let me make that very clear however they also have been bitten by pretty bad injury bug over the last like two or three years they have dealt with injuries to a lot of their main guys and I know I mean even going all the way back to 2020 with kilan Hayes at that

Time when he was considered a main guy even that’s when the injury book started K Hayes missed the whole year damn near with his hip injury he had the injury with Jeremy Grant I believe the second year you had the injuries to K Cunningham obviously his second year you

Had injuries to isaah Stewart last year you had injuries to Bo bonovich last year you had injuries to Alec Burks this year you had injuries at B donov this year again like Monte Morris like they’ve been snake B by injuries for the last few years and obviously know if you

Want even go further back Griffin at the end of his time like they’ve been B by injuries pretty bad um and it sucks that it’s happening at this time because over the last 10 games of the of the season around the same Mark I believe exactly the same

Mark as making the trade with the Wizards the Pistons while still not a good team they have a net rating over the last 10 games of minus 3.2 which is 22nd in the NBA not worse not good but definitely not worse they they are not playing like the worst team in the NBA

Over the last 10 games they also have an offensive rating over the last 10 games of 11 16.4 which is 17th in the NBA now if you guys remember at the beginning of this season I told you guys guys that when they decided to go the route of going defense with that defensive

Starting lineup the begin of the year I said okay if you go that route of going pure defense your cealing P will be like maybe like 24th 25th 23rd defensive rating and then your offense will suffer if you go full offense your cealing of being a better offensive team is higher

Than being a better defensive team where I think they could probably be middle of the pack offensively but be really bad defensively in that aspect it doesn’t matter which one you want to go I thought at the beginning of the year off was going to be their best pathway

Playing well because that was what the Personnel on the team said but obviously they went back and forth they tried to be a defensive team at first then they tried to go full on offense as well but then have the Personnel now they had the personnel with Mike muscala with Daniel

Gari being able to play Isaiah Stewart at the backup five position and play five out with him instead of trying push him into that backup for spot and you saw they were playing like the middle of half offense also helped which is something I’ve pointed out a lot that

Bonovich went nuclear in a few games that Alec Burks has been shooting 44% from Deep Over like the last 12 games that that definitely helps um but getting mik Scala has helped a ton gari has helped a ton those two guys that LE the distance and onoff difference net

Rating since the trade by far like not even close those guys they play the pist are destroying in their minut so those guys have been helpful a ton so the fact after these 10 games where the Pistons I believe have won three games obviously that’s been a big talking point they’re

Three andeven over these last 10 games they’re playing well I’d say offensively they’re horrible defensively which is expected with the guys that the person def have at least now they were able to pull together a unit to where they can be competent on one side of the ball

Before they were historically bad this both ends of the before they were just bad at least now they have the Personnel to be competent on offense and put together an NBA offense and now with Stu going down and Mike muscala going down I think that’s going to hurt that one two

Is one of the main one of the only players in a team that push for the defensive intensity is able to impact the Pistons on the defensive end now that they lose him at that I think they’re going to I I think they’re going to fall even further than they already

Were the last 10 games defensively um where they were 25th in the NBA at 11 19.6 points per game so or not points per game but one. one 19.6 defensive rating um I think that’s going to impact him I also think not having St at the back of five will probably hurt them

Offensively a little bit um more so Scala as well they like play him at the back of five with AAR then maybe have him at the four and St at the five just having those options having those interchangeable pieces at the four five spot that they’ve had the last 10 games

I know they may have for a lot of the last um all last 10 games but he played in some of those and they were playing well actually I believe he only missed one of those right or two of those I think two or three I think he he missed over those

10 games but either way Ste was really helpful he played was playing some really good basketball so they’re going to miss to obviously especially in the defensive end Mike muscala they’re going to miss his ability to space FL out um that’s going to be really hurtful for

The Pistons I think however I think they can get by because of the new wrinkle that Monty Williams was using in this game against the Cleveland Cavaliers where you’re going to see denil Gori played 20 plus minutes with the Pistons at the back of five position and then

They start to use AAR more at that power forward position I think that’s what they’re going to do and it was it worked a ton against a big front court again in Cleveland Evan Mobley Jared Allen that’s not no small front court and they were able to run and obviously not all their

Minuts were against them they were a backup unit but they shared some men against EV Moy against Jared Allen like and they were able to hold their own not just hold their own they won their minutes by far they destroyed in the in those minutes so I think they’re going

To miss Ste I think they’re going to miss muscala for sure but I think they’re G to I think they can be fine I think they can continue way they’ve played over the last 10 games moving forward if they continue to utilize the scar at the power four

Position g at the five and continue to prioritize spacing I think they can even be better if Monte figures out a way to utilize assar more like in these closing minutes when you need defense like that assar should be on the floor especially with stew out the game or or out with

Injury I’d love to see Kade Ivy Bo on assar endurant like you should be able to make that work like that should be something that you can play on the court um and and and play well on both ends of the floor like I’ve said this multiple times like playing assar and Duran

Should not be a death both those guys are incredible passer both those guys can ball hander handle and drive the basket and great driving Lanes get pressure on the rim like there should be plenty of opportunities offensively to do something with those two guys on the

PT that should not be the death wish that we we’ve seen this year with this team so I hope we see some of that with these guys out but even if we don’t I think Monty figuring out the gari and a star minutes um that lineup together I

Think they can survive with that I think they actually will play really well with that I think they can continue their play that they’ve had over the last games moving forward obviously you want Isaiah Stewart and Mike musala back both those guys were playing extremely well I

Thought Isaiah Stewart just had his best game of his career um just a few day few games ago what was it against the Milwaukee Buck on second I thought that was the best of his career he was playing really good Mike MC was shooting really well from defense during the

Pistol so they’re gonna miss those guys hopefully they get healthy and get back to the team and continue the play that they were uh having before going down but I think alar if he continues to play the way he does Monte continues to play s for this should be fine and continue

This thr in here this week we when James Edward came on the podcast and we talked he said that he felt like the only reason why on this team was because of mon that if it wasn’t for mon haes would not be on this team right now he would

Have been traded in the off season he would have been gone um but Monty William stepped in which is something uh that he seems to said in this article uh that Monty Williams basically stepped in and I’m not quoting him but summarizing

It um let me see if I can fin let me you know let me get my hands on Killian Hayes I I’ve liked him from AF far I think I can make him into a really good player I like his tools etc etc um and with

That I have I had no problem with um with if Monty Williams trying to make killan Hayes I was one of those people who believe kilan Hayes could be a player but I just think it’s I think it’s crazy that we’re seeing here at February 1 and it’s basically being

Like well-known knowledge that the Detroit Pistons head coach decide was was okay I I should say was okay to not play one of their best players in Jane Ivy not start one of their best players in Jaye Ivy in favor for killing Hayes who let’s face it was one of their worst

Players for as long as he did and if it wasn’t for organizational meeting that happened what was it two weeks ago it’s possible it could still be going on right now it’s possible that it would still be going on right now so I I think

It’s I think it’s crazy that it got to that I don’t think it ever should have been should have been uh something that was going on if Monty wanted wanted to try to like fix kilan hay or make him an NBA player that’s fine you can do that by playing

Him like at the beginning of the year 20 to 25 minutes off the bench you could have done that like that that could have been the thing I don’t think the Pistons front office should have allowed what Monty Williams was trying to do with Killian and Jane Ivy at the beginning of

This year and I know the the easy the most common response to that is going to be well you don’t want your your front office you know telling your coach what to do or making his rotation for or all that kind of stuff and okay I agree with

That I you should not be having your front office micromanaging your your head coach and telling them what to do what they can’t do and uh making their rotation for what Li to do um even though yesterday after the Cleveland Cavaliers game Monte said quote Al is a guy that I’ve been telling

The coaches and Troy I’ve been wanting to find an opportunity for um it seems like he’s aditt he talks to Troy now about rotation that’s my take but nonetheless I am not saying that Troy should have been involved in the rotations I’m just saying if a head

Coach were to show up and say hey I’m going to stop playing one of your best players in favor of one of your worst players I think that’s something that you definitely step in and say okay that look you what you want that right there know like can’t that that’s which is

Basically what they did two weeks it should not have taken that long and it’s officially the end of the kilan hay experiment in Detroit very never even got off to a good uh start with the pist I mean he was injured instantly um so it was not a

Good error for killing Hayes in Detroit I think this is officially the end of it um I know a lot of people will be happy about that obviously and I don’t think you need to worry about Jane Ivy not playing anymore I think Jane Ivy is going to continue his minutes now for

Sure um and even though killing Hayes is not out the NBA yet um whenever they trade him or wave him I hope he does well wherever he goes um but it’s officially over here he has not played well the last like month and a half like he’s not

Even shooting like three times a game the basket I don’t know what was going on you can’t play him there was no reason for him to be playing over the last few weeks over marter and now it looks like this will get to see Marcus fer even if it even if
