Jaylen Brown on Getting BENCHED During Celtics Loss to Lakers | Postgame Interview

How frustrating is it to fall at home to a team without their two superstars uh very frustrating you know tonight was a rough night um we take full responsibility for it um it started with that first group we weren’t very good tonight um we came out La a days

Ago and it’s the NBA you come out with that mentality you can lose and that’s what we did we lost when Joe just came out he was kind of excited he’s like I’m pissed about the game but excited about the opportunity that moments like this bring I know obviously you’re pretty upset

Right after the game but how do you feel I guess when you come to practice the next day and have the opportunity to try to work from here I mean every day is a new day um but definitely um I guess it’s the first time I feel like all

Season we have an experience like this you know and it it just you don’t you don’t want to see that too often you know even though it presents opportunity yeah you don’t want to be in them spot spot you don’t want to lose games you’re not supposed to you want to have the

Right mentality we haven’t skipped any steps and today was like not a good sign to that so we definitely got to get back on the right track um but today wasn’t our best night how much is it though human nature when you find out that LeBron and AD aren’t

Playing uh I mean you could say that but you know we don’t we don’t really make excuses I don’t think anybody in the in the in the in the crowd or anybody you know wants to hear that excuse we got to come out and play basketball each and

Every night and you know tonight tip our head off to the Lakers they played a lot harder than us how does Joe and how do you yourselves hold each other accountable um we don’t sugarcoat it you know even though he came out and said you know he

Excited this is not a good spot to be in you know we don’t want to we don’t want to build bad habits we want to play the game the right way um we want to guard defend respect our opponents and that stuff you got to do on a night in and

Night Out basis and we didn’t do that tonight um from from top to bottom and you know as a leader on his team you know I take responsibility for it but we got to be better Jaylen at three minutes into the third quarter you guys gave up there was

Four of you guys around you gave up an offensive rebound and Joe pulled you and a couple of other guys and you sat for the rest of the quarter um it doesn’t happen very often what are you kind of like stewing in that moment you accept that as like you know you weren’t

Playing well and you had to like just accept it how do how does that work uh I don’t know I haven’t been in that position too often so you know it kind of is what it is you know we weren’t playing our best I wasn’t playing my best so nothing I could

Really say there um you know every time I step out in the court I try to add the women in tonight you know uh try to make sure I was being a selfish was getting the guys with hitting our guys in stride and sharing the ball you know and stuff

But was a little lag days wasn’t my best game but you know I’ll put it behind me I’ll be ready for the next one jayen what’s it h how does it feel like the feeling when you know you’re not playing hard the team isn’t how do

You kind of pick that up you seem like you probably just picked it up in the second half it stretches but just when you feel like a days ago and kind of listless out there what can you do to change that so this doesn’t happen again um just sometimes just being solid you

Know just being solid defensively um and executing you know can help get you back in the game and I think that we didn’t do either of those our spacing was bad we didn’t execute on offense and then um and then on defense you know we put ourselves in some tough spots fouling

You know we thought we didn’t we didn’t get a great whistle either but um we put oursel in some tough spots by know fouling and our offense wasn’t great great spacing wasn’t great execution wasn’t crisp and and then that just bled over I think when you in those spots you

Got to you know just be solid on defense play without fouling not turn the ball over and um have great space in the offense and rebound and usually you’ll find yourself in you know not too far off but tonight we ain’t do none of those things Jaylen you were named to the

All-Star team tonight can you tell us how you celebrated when you first found out and have you processed like what are you thinking about what this means for you and for the fans and everything like that uh anytime you get uh I guess some type of recognition I guess um it’s a a

Humility standpoint that’s attached to it but you know all the people who supported me all the people who’ve been in the trenches you know through the ups and through the Downs um Team JB you know I just want to appreciate them all the ones that’s been the supporting me

On this journey so it’s more of a celebration for that but you know when you lose a game against the Lakers against without you know some of their best players you know it definitely takes us to edge off thank you J

BOSTON — Jaylen Brown reflected on being benched in the third quarter amidst the Celtics 114-105 loss to the Lakers on Thursday night, a scenario he’s rarely faced. “I don’t know, I haven’t been in that position too often, so, you know, it kinda is what it is. We weren’t playing our best,” he commented on the team’s and his own performance during the game. Acknowledging his part in the night’s outcome, Brown noted, “I wasn’t playing my best,” underscoring his understanding of the situation in light of the defeat.

  1. And the stupid reporters Don ask the right questions. This team lost a 20 point lead to the pacer’s and then lost to a team without their superstar

  2. News flash: the coach doesn’t take a single shot in the game so it was definitely the players fault who sucked tonight, not joe.

  3. I thought Jayson Tatum was The Leader of This Team. If that is the case, Where is The Criticism of Jayson Tatum, by you White, Celtics Fans of Boston? We know Why You Hate Jaylen Brown( Always bringing-up The Millions of Dollars, he is about to get in his Next Contract ).

  4. Jaylen and Porzingis have to know that the whole league knows and expects their little two man game, why they had a bunch of turnovers.

  5. All the top teams have a loss now and then. The Bucks lost to Portland the other night. Still have lots of faith in the Celtics. Go Green!

  6. It's an 82 game schedule. We can't go 82 and 0. We're not playing good basketball. It won't last on to the next game. It's a long season. On to the next one. Win Lose Or Tie Celtic Till I Die! Go C's.

  7. Jaylen Brown is very talented but also very predictable (doesn't move w/o the ball, can't drive to the left and gets beat off the dribble in the half court). Stats don't tell the story, but matchups do – especially during the postseason.

  8. Can’t win them all but against the lakers we need to come out harder because that first half was pathetic

  9. I mean, you got secondary players with a knowledge and understanding of the game plan to defend us. But we have no game plan apparently on what to take away from them. With a few exceptions, these guys have been in a league long enough to have tape on them.

  10. Funny thing is if AD and bron played the Celtics would’ve won this game. They’re weird. They feel like they don’t have to show up when a star isn’t on the floor instead of just being dominant. Shit drives me crazy and it starts and ends with Tatum and brown

  11. Jaylen getting traded next offseason for sure ain’t no way they running this back. He or Tatum gotta go.

  12. Paying 300 million dollars for this guy is crazy. We can get so many more pieces around Tatum for that price. Legit build shooters around him and D white and KP. JB gotta go next offseason.

  13. Take Tatum from that 3 point line smh
The guy is soo much better than settling for 3s. Like bro stop waiting at the 3 point line all the time. You’re not gonna make em all the damn time

  14. Mazulla should bench him more minutes cause he dont wanna shoot i dont know what happen to him looks like his not into playing thos game

  15. Joe has them depending on 3’s so much that if they don’t make them, they completely collapse, and he doesn’t have any other game plan when the 3’s does not fall through!! What the hell happened to the post up???? Once again we get away from that and our defense is beginning suck again!
