Zach Lowe on How the Cavaliers Might Improve Their Roster – Sports4CLE, 1/24/24

L from ESPN on the Cavs and how they might be able to improve their roster this again from the low post they’re kind of Frozen in place until they get clarity on Donovan Mitchell they can’t like you might want to put Evan Mobley into the trade machine or Darius Garland

Into the trade machine you can’t do that until they have long-term Clarity on the guy who’s been the best player on their team and he has been just outstanding ever since they got him I had him first team all NBA this year and he’s been you know I don’t I’m not going

To have him first team all NBA this year but he’s been about damn near as good this year as he was last year the guard competition is just is just better but again this it’s 16 games is not that long it’s long but it’s not that long

It’s also been a very soft schedule schedule has been very soft in that stretch so I wouldn’t overreact but it is interesting and it’s the Donovan Mitchell Jared Allen shooting around them no other stars that’s clean like that’s easy you can plop that into a regular season and it’s

A clear hierarchy system that works two star guards and two non-shooting bigs has more quote unquote talent but it’s not as clean it’s not as tidy it’s not as just plug and play and uh Sam when when you hear that I think what Zack low is getting at is

You’re going to have to figure that out you know it’s adding two high level talents you got to figure out how to continue to get the space that they’ve gotten yeah you know the nice thing for the Cavs you’re G to have to integrate these guys obviously but the nice thing

Is you’re GNA have Garland back first presumably and then you know a couple weeks later you’ll be able to get him integrated and then a couple weeks later Evan Moy comes back uh so it’s not like they’re both coming back at the same time and you’re going to have to stick

Them both back and at the same time and even if that were the case I don’t foresee that being an issue you know the the the Cavs are able to play very well now as is uh because they’re playing very determined basketball they have some Talent obviously there Allstar

Level Talent Mitchell and Allen but you know you can’t go wrong when you’re adding guys like Garland and and Moy it might take a little bit of an adjustment but I don’t think it’s going to be adjustment for anybody else but Carin and Moy you know because they’re going

To get back in game shape try to play themselves back into game shape before the playoffs and um just get acclimated to everything again but you know them coming back trust me is a very good thing especially when you’re talking about a team that has hopes of a deep

Playoff run uh it’s just two more weapons and the Cavs I think got some things figured out JB bicker staff offensively and defensively and Moy and and uh Garland will just move right into that it’s not like they’re going to have to change everything they’re just going

To you know ideally you you fit them back into what’s working and that’s really the Cavs plan right now there’s no sense of uh you know this may not work when they come back because uh it wasn’t perfect before so I I think they’re very excited about the return of

Both of those players knowing that they’re really found something that works yeah it’s much easier to integrate talented basketball players into a system than it is to find talented basketball players so yeah yeah having two of your three best players coming back usually is not a bad thing

  1. leave Wade in the starting line-up…bring Mobley off the bench with Levert, Merrill, Okoro and Niang

  2. Nepo JB is not smart enough to utilize the talented lineup of the Cavs. He runs the starters into the ground, leading to injuries and underdevelopement of bench. Replace ASAP. . Is Terry Stotts still available?

  3. This is easy, I posted online last week about X. The Cavaliers now have a genuine opportunity to assemble the most formidable team since the record-setting 2016 Golden State Warriors. Propose deploying the starting lineup for a collective 7 minutes at the beginning and the conclusion of each game, totaling 14 minutes.

10 minutes Spida/JA (plug and play)
7 minutes DG/Mobley (plug and play)
7 minutes Spida/JA (plug and play)
10 minutes DG/Mobley (plug and play)
    7 minutes all the starters.(End)
