ESPN react to Jimmy Butler scored 23 Pts as Heat make it 2 in a row with 110-102 win over Wizards
Game NBA games you win a game you never apologize for it no matter how it comes it’s never easy certainly wasn’t tonight for the heat but you got to like the push Miami had after that slow start to put away the Wizards and win this game
It we sat here at half it’s a three-point game and and you’re going listen this is going to go one of two ways quickly in the second half because when teams hang around then they think they can hang around and I thought Miami coming out in that third quarter exactly
What we talked about in the pre-show the pointing communicating we didn’t see it in the first half we saw it in the third quarter so it’s no secret that they held the Wizards to 15 points in the third quarter to me that’s where the game was
Won yeah you talk about it defense is such a part of what the Heat’s identity is and how they get going and they did in that third quarter we’re going to get reaction from he and Coach Eric spul with the players in just a bit but let’s
Start with the third quarter acity game summary because that is where the game turned again miy fell behind by a couple figures in the first half they cut it to three at the half and then in the third quarter Amy as you highlighted the defense came to life and as you also
Highlighted before is that that defense usually leads to good offense and it did in the third yeah you look at the shooting percentage a lot more challenge a lot more more intensity a lot more I always say present on catches forcing tough shots and by the way got to point
Out the rebounds too Miami a season High 59 rebounds tonight you want to control pace of game you want to control and dictate Tempo it always starts on the glass so I thought they did a great job in that column as well and by the way multiple strong efforts from guys on the
Glass night was great it was great to see and when you see the assists which we highlighted in the pre-show about the 38 they had in the win against the Kings the eight and the third quarter and you point over to the scariest Terry Terry
Roser what he was able to do look again it’s pretty clear his offense is far from a shooting perspective is it where he wants it to be just yet but Amy he’s not letting it impact other areas of his game he was a big Catalyst in that third
Quarter you know what will he he got whacked in the face drew some blood and all of a sudden it was like our game in little pockets that ended up meaning a win yeah and again plus minus isn’t always the best indicator but I think it
Can show you something now and then he was plus 15 tonight he made made winning plays when he was in the game as you mentioned even when he was missing some shots that offense will get going getting going I think is the best way to describe what Jimmy Butler’s done the
Last four games or so there’s a difference in Jimmy that I know you’ve noticed what is it and how impressive was he tonight and kind of setting that tone Jimmy’s getting the paint I mean Jimmy’s my favorite offense at times is give me the ball and get out of my way
And there’s going to be times to me it’s just it’s kind of like a full circle thing when Jimmy starts like this everyone else gets theirs eventually because teams do have to adjust against him and it’s not just tonight it’s been the last four or five games consistently
Listen it requires a lot from him physically to to do this but this team with that seven streak has got to win games and we know like he’s one of the biggest guys he’s the guy that this team looks for to get things back the momentum back in their Direction what I
Love is he had 24 it took 10 shots I most of those early the aggressiveness early and set the tone bam a bio too you could a double double just made his third All-Star team many more to come the way he plays but how was he able to
Get to that game on the boards early on with the dunks in the nice Twan game that was going on that’s what they did I thought as soon as it was Terry and Tyler threw those lobs to Bam early in the first quarter it really got him into
The game and and it opened things up for everybody else too but this is the he to move his feet so look at that and I had to laugh I’m sorry 175 career double doubles for bam which he’s very quickly climbing up and Kevin Love 466 are you
Kidding me so uh we’ll let bam have his moment but my gosh you forget Caleb what you give me the lead he was was a true double double machine he average one pretty much every year the first five six years of his career but B certainly
On his way A three- time all star another double double tonight six in the last seven games and more importantly as a bamble say every time a heat bro of course February now Black History Month as we continue to celebrate throughout the month the creators is what we call
This celebrating black Excellence you see the dates there those are four creators that we’re going to highlight that all are going to get honored at the ca Center on those particular dates so they’ll actually get honored during heat home games over the next week and a half
Or so but we’re going to start with one of them right there on the far right India Vel one of our creators Ur we continue to look back at what happened tonight here on balet Sports the heat victory in Washington we got Amy St
We’re going to get more of her take in a moment on what we saw but let’s go over to the heat head coach now your postgame news conference brought to by Baptist Health the official healthcare provider of the Miami Heat um I don’t know I uh
Would like to think that we are doing some things better I mean certainly defensively now two games in a row um you know we’ve been able to um show more of our identity more efforts and and um you know that third quarter U our activity level is extremely high
Defensively uh and this two games in a row now where we holding teams uh you know under their average uh you know by double digits and in this day and age it is not easy to do that uh no matter who you’re playing uh you know there’s so many uh
Offensive players and offensive teams that that spread you out and everything it just takes a great deal of commitment to be able to hold teams down and you know it was a little bit of an uneven uh offensive uh game you know I thought we had some really makeable shots in that
Uh fourth quarter uh we weren’t able to knock those down but I like the process of that the third quarter we were able to put both sides of the floor together and um that was probably our best stretch there but um the resolve and um you know that commitment on that on the
Defensive side of the floor that’s uh progress in my mind Jim asive how much other guys yeah it allows us to control the game better you know particularly when you’re on the road it it doesn’t really matter but uh home or away but definitely I mean You’ like to do it
Both home and away but if you’re able to control the game and get into the bonus on the road that certainly helps um we’re able to set our defense you know so many times uh from that uh and different guys were able to you know get
To the free throw line because we were in the bonus you know I think early pretty much in every quarter and that was a result of Jimmy’s aggressiveness um youan know our pain attacks in the first half were great it was one of our more aggressive games and we missed a
Lot of shots like inside the circle uh but the aggressiveness uh was there and then the defense in the second half uh in particular you put that together and ends up being a pretty physical game um you know on both sides of the floor and we’ll definitely take that speaking of
Aggression Terry maybe not from the field but from the line and he got there and he’s helped settle things I think he finished 1111 from the line how much was his attacking and aggressive approach help yeah that that uh that unit in the third quarter uh really broke the game
Open on both sides of the floor they really disrupted defensively and then uh you know he has an ability to play off the ball on the ball uh to get to the basket he can draw some fouls create something you know out of really not a
Whole lot U so was Jimmy him Klo uh haime um and I I believe uh Jay Rich you know for part of that that period of time that that group you know had a really good uh flow and you you can see the uh the possibilities uh with Terry
Uh he’s a guy that you know you know to a fault he wants to fit in he wants to compliment you know once he gets comfortable you know these are the shots that he’s he’s made a name for you know over the course of uh his career and in
Particular the last uh you know two or three years I I know it’s not about Ste but the zon stabiliz certain put up so many yeah you know uh it it’ll differ game to game you know where we need you know to adjust our schemes it’s really
About the more the activity level making it tough uh on other teams getting them out of their comfort zone today uh or tonight that ended up being a little bit of of the Zone we’re able to extend it full court uh a little bit more uh and
Take them a little bit out of their their normal attacks and and and three-point shooting um you know you don’t want to look at their record because this is a team that’s really dangerous and now you know really the last four games uh before this they’ve
Had some different kind of Life uh to them and they can be really ignitable U so regardless of whether the scheme what what the scheme was going to be you would have to make you know some big time multiple efforts you have a challenging six game stretch before the
All-Star break starting with the Clippers on Sunday you also have games coming up against magic against the Celtics uh continuing Milwaukee Philadelphia were your team’s positioned right now maybe regaining his footing a little with these last two games how do you feel about the final six going into
That Allstar can’t play them all on Sunday but I know our guys are looking forward to the competition you know uh the Clippers I think are the hottest team in the league you know right now um it’s in our house uh we had some good decent stretches uh in LA but then they
Really took control in that second half um and it’s better to be uh facing them with a a little bit of a momentum you know going into it uh our guys are competitors um you know so it should be a fun night right thank you thank you oh man
Come on um we’re talking about Terry spit how how long do you think it would take for him to find his his role like he’s been struggling from the field but how much longer do you think it would take for him to just figure out what his
Ro as long as he’s contributing winning the last two games he’s really contributed to the win you know and it’ll take whatever it takes for him to get you know his his full offens of Rhythm but in the meantime impact the game impact the win and that’s what he’s
Doing all right thank you you an UPC Court probably for somebody like Jimmy I’m going get it to Gabe see if he can have the hit ahead pass if we’re doing our five out I might get it to Bam have him play downhill against Lopez who’s a slower Defender you know if we
Get that ball downhill and we get into the paint we might have a Cross Match we might have Gabe or Max open for a three or me in the trail spot so there’s a lot of options with this particular unit especially against Milwaukee who is a very good defensive team but again we
Have a lot of uh deadly weapons out there question for you so you’re going to watch you make a decision where you just as the shot goes up you look at Yannis really quick and then you know some coaches would say go tag him because it’s Giannis yes how do you make
That decision in that Split Second for me I kind of felt him out hit him kind of saw where he was and then on top of that I took that quick Peak as you mentioned and made sure that he wasn’t coming in for the for the rebound if he
Was he’s such a big body again he puts so much pressure on the rim offensively is my job just keeping teams off the offensive glass so took the peak knew if I was able to secure the rebound that I could look up court so I see Jimmy
Already taking the step here so that’s going to be my first look cuz he’s farthest up the court yeah I got lucky with this pause because it the play’s already happening this ball doesn’t even come to your shoulders I mean when did you start looking up first in your
Career this was uh something that I’ve done my entire life I actually I played three grades up with my brother so that chess pass and kind of overhead pass was the only way that I could get the ball to the rim cuz at the time you know
First second grade I was playing on an 8ft Rim so I had to shoot it like that one summer I literally you know stood under the basket at a 10ft hoop and just learned to to shoot it how I do now but at the time I was so accurate passing
And I was so strong that I knew that I could make that pass so as time went on that was a way to get my teammates involved and that was such a luxury for teams get out on the fast break and getting relief buckets here we are
Talking about the uh the New York series you know keeping Robinson off the glasses is no easy feat but if guys are going to the offensive glass and I’m getting a rebound securing a rebound in a lot of ways we have the advantage we can again push the ball up the court I
Have my uh you know I got my little qb1 action to my best receiver look at that outlet Jimmy makes the catch touchdown and you know we get an easy bucket on the other end that’s defeating for a lot of teams and we get easy buckets like that and they know
That they have to get back they lose offensive rebounder in some ways they lose a guy that if they do get offens and they can kick out for a three so those are things that are going through my mind and knowing that we can put pressure on their defense Kevin I
Appreciate you giving up your time for the film room today that was awesome I appreciate it thank you I know you enjoy talking to all those guys talking to a veteran like Kevin though who’s he’s just so smart you see his brain in real time working in the game but so fast foree Speee spee My R cannot be quenched get son what up guys your team has destroyed a tower An ally has been defeated enemy double kill have defeated [Applause] an enemy has been defeated an enemy has been defeated an ally deated hey Hey you have been defeated an ally has been defeated your tower has been Destroyed our base is under Attack foree for foree speech speech foreign speee fore for foreign speech speee no no no no no not first Blood Enemy [Applause] Your team has destroyed a tower [Applause] ally enemy triple isn’t it amazing to an enemy has deated music is invigor it I will never return to deated enemy double kill enemy triple kill yeah isn’t it amazing to be reborn an enemy has defeated you have defeated an enemy enemy this is the last
