Wow.. Sixers were looking scary this year too. Hopefully he’s back in time for playoffs.

Meniscus repair usually takes months to recover from. He’s probably done for the season

  3. RelevantJackWhite

It’s possible we went a little too hard on the guy

The vagueness of this does not bode well for the Sixers’ playoff odds

  5. Cheechers23

The Sixers are doing everything they can to avoid saying “torn meniscus” and “out for the season” with everything related to this injury

Btw – is this the dumb option that likely gives him arthritic knees + shortens his career?

  7. fckthisite

Is this from Kuminga or the previous knee injury?

  8. SerialRapper

If he’s out for the season, the next time Embiid plays in the playoffs, he will be 31 years old. The clock is ticking

I guess I’ll be drinking some paint tonight

Punting on the season. For the sixers sake, I hope Morey has a plan for the offseason

  11. A meniscus surgery is basically a season ender at this point of the year

  12. Can we get new medical staff now, dude shouldn’t have been playing.

This is the same exact injury + surgery Collin Sexton had on his final year with the Cavs and it took him 6 months to recover. Embiid is much heavier, taller, older and has a history of injuries.

Welp that’s it boys & girls. Pack it in for this season. We are tanking again.

We are seeing another HoF career robbed by injuries

  16. For anyone who’s unaware, meniscus injuries have two general approaches to surgical intervention. One is to cut out the portion that’s torn off, which is pretty easy as far as surgeries go (back to walking in a day or two, back to sports in a few weeks). The other is to repair the meniscus, which isn’t always possible depending on the way the injury happens but generally has a better long term prognosis. The downside of repairing is a substantially longer rehab process. He’s probably done for at least the rest of the regular season.

I’m scared for the future of his career. His size, height, and injury history all worry me.

Philly just keeps refusing to give a timeline. He is surely done for the season. Anyways I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Dang man hate it for the dude. He was having a freakin amazing season

It’s so weird that the team or embiid are so desperate to not just say season done. I know he might be able to make it back but why bring a guy back straight into the playoffs. Him constantly coming back while injured has clearly been something to fuck him up multiple times.

If it’s like Timelord, they open up the knee, and it’s not until then that they can see whether they can shave it or have to repair it. It’s not merely “Do we want to put a Band-aid on it or give him time to fully recover.” It has to do with the nature of the injury. I really think they don’t know yet if it’s going to be 6 weeks or 6 months.

Don’t spin this on the 65 game rules.

He never should’ve been playing in the first place load management or not

So they’ve chosen the surgical route over non-operative rest/rehab. I think this is the smart move. Going to reiterate some information I have previously posted about.

A meniscal flap tear is an incomplete tear where the fragment of meniscus hangs on like a flag flapping in the wind. From a medical point of view, several factors to consider for a flap tear: location of tear (red zone vs. white zone), size, degree and direction of displacement (e.g. intercondylar notch, medial gutter), absence/involvement of root

There are 2 mainstay surgical treatments: Partial meniscectomy and Meniscal repair. I won’t discuss meniscal transplant, arthroplasty, or total meniscectomy since they are not applicable here.

    https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2059775421002807

This systematic review from March 2018 reviewed mean return-to-play in 355 elite athletes (mostly football, soccer, and basketball) undergoing partial meniscectomy or meniscal repair. Their findings?

Meniscal repair: 7.6 months. Partial meniscectomy: 4.3 months.

Both of these would imply Embiid out for the ROS… however, many athletes in the study also had concomitant ACL reconstruction. Also, size of resected meniscus was not analyzed. We know that there was no cruciate ligament injury. So could Embiid undergo partial meniscectomy for a small flap tear, heal faster than average, and return in the later stages of the playoffs? It is 100% plausible.

Doc Rivers thanking his stars he’s fucking up on another team & not the sixers
