Despite sitting atop the NBA with the league’s best record, the Boston Celtics have been active ahead of the trade deadline.
The Celtics are looking to package some of their minimum contract players at the end of the rotation and draft pick compensation to bolster their bench heading into the playoffs, league sources told HoopsHype.
Boston has expressed interest in a wide range of trade targets, including Kelly Olynyk, Delon Wright, Andre Drummond, and others, league sources told HoopsHype.
Drummond would fit the parameters of Boston’s current compensation package above, while Olynyk and Wright would likely cost more.

I just tried to do the trade on Fanspo and something like Pritchard, Kornet, Svi, stevens, and Banton would match for Olynyk
Hearing Drummonds name gives me solace in knowing it won’t happen
Man, delon is a pesky ass defender and can shoot a little. Would not hate him. Love PP and am happy rolling with him but I don’t think looking for an upgrade is a bad idea at all.
If brad an Co see Drummond as a useful fit then ill defer to them but Luke/Queta have looked fine for 3rd/4th string bigs.
Kelly just feels like too much money- I remember messing around with the trade machine a while back and I *think* technically we can make the money work and even bring back Dunn in the TPE (PP would have to go so we’d prob want a guard coming back), just feels like too much roster overhaul.
Delon really feels like not the biggest stretch money-wise while still being a guy I think adds a lot to our rotation.
This all feels like buyout candidates with Drummond being an upgrade/sidegrade over Luke. I can see some of these names happening with PP being traded but then you limit the bench scoring even more?
He’d fit about as poorly as Monroe did in this offense. No chance Joe would be able to stand having a guy out there that can’t spread the floor
When Kelly convinces Ainge to buy him out >>>
It’s interesting that none of these guys fit the “big wing” archetype that Brad said he was looking for.
Brad is generally pretty honest about the *type* of player he is looking for and Scotto is generally reliable, so I’m not sure what to make of these rumors.
Wright and Drummond could potentially be had for 2nd Round picks:
On Wright:
> Wright is expected to command second-round draft pick compensation in trade talks, league sources told HoopsHype.
On Drummond, (i.e. Rockets traded 3 2nds for Adams):
> The Rockets also considered making a run at Drummond before acquiring Steven Adams.
I feel like any move for Wright or Olynyk means that PP is out. Wright for being a PG and KO for being expensive. Again though, none of these deals solves the “big wing” issue.
Edit: Could also be “pre buyout” talks.
I think Drummond is intriguing, the man doesn’t think of himself as a post scorer anymore and seems to be playing within his limits/role. Definitely not a bad idea imo, incredibly he’s still only 30. Would be an immediate upgrade over Kornet/Queta…
/e- he’s also the exact kind of player who would thrive in a stacked roster environment
Letting go of PP idk how I feel about that.
I’d be surprised if Brad traded away any of our top 8 guys.
I don’t have a problem with Kornet/Queta being 3rd options at the 5 and Kelly is too much contracts. Wright is decent but I wouldn’t give up any of the main guys for gim, not even PP.
I think any player we’re getting is a body for the regular season and won’t see any playoff minutes. Olynyk on the other hand might be different but can we even make that happen
Combing salaries to get a bigger contract we wouldn’t be able to have otherwise is a no-brainer, right? Regardless of if the player cracks the rotation
I’d love Drummond — I know Al is capable at defending Embiid/Giannis but that is asking a lot of him & I feel like that depletes our second unit’s scoring capabilities a lot with him being asked to do that.
Drummond, for all his Shaqtin’ clips, is a big enough body & mobile enough as well. Great rebounder on top of that. I’ll excuse the Tragic Johnson moments lol. He’s matured a bit too which helps & he’s a big Boston Celtics fan from his youth which doesn’t hurt.
BRING THE KLYNYK HOME
Wonder about Naji Marshall or Konchar still since those seem to fit the big wing type Brad referred to
Remember when people here wanted Drummond so badly on our team?
Well he’s still dogshit now just like he was then
All would be great. People are underestimating Wright. I have huge concerns for the bench come playoff time (PP, Hauser, Kornet). Wright is an upgrade over PP
Drummond isn’t a bad player has been very good for the Bulls plus he gets a lot of rebounds when he plays
I think drummond would solve one of our mure subtle problems in defensive rebounds we seem to be giving up a lot of second looks recently and if Drummond could cut down on it that would be awsome
I’ve wanted Drummond for 5+ seasons. They don’t need him as badly as they have Porzingis now, and AD isn’t a young man anymore- with that being said I think it would still be a good signing… BUT seeing Olynyk in green again would be awesome.
I’m just gonna say it:
I’m not interested in Olynyk.
Yeah I think I’d rather just develop Queta. Thanks but no thanks.
Drummond absorbing boards for a few minutes per half? I wouldn’t hate it
People who think Drummond is a useful basketball player in the playoffs have low basketball IQ. Drummond SUCKS. Celtics should NOT be interested.
