The NBA Has a HUGE Problem…

The NBA Has a HUGE Problem…

You f you like it now you love your 65 game rule now well there goes Joel embiid perhaps for the season a guy plays 64 games he’s not going to be on there is ridiculous right I don’t think there’s any question that a player that’s playing three games out of four

Nights for example when a player is tired that it impacts performance load management is a term that was once foreign to NBA fans and teams alike the expectation was that an NBA player would suit up for their team in every game unless they were injured but in recent

Years that term has exploded into the NBA lexicon as star players or even just starters continue to miss a game or two at a time to keep them healthy throughout the season this caused major friction with fans who would come to games expecting to see a star only to

Find out that they came to the arena on a night that that star player would be on the bench in Street close the problem got so bad that the NBA and Players Association put a new rule into the newly negotiated collective bargaining agreement last spring to directly combat

This issue but the rule a 65 game minimum to be eligible for regular season awards and honors is already becoming exposed to some major flaws so what caused this rule to be put into place and what are the ramifications that are and will eventually play out

Across the league and can this ruin the league as we know it before we get to the content make sure you drop like subscribe and turn on our notifications to help the channel grow now that we get all that out of the way cu the Intro For the Super Bowl prize piix is blessing us with an easy way to make a 100 bucks all Patrick Mahomes needs is one passing yard in the Super Bowl for a square to hit which means he’s pretty much a free Square first download prize picks and use my promo code microphone

When you sign up to get up to a $100 deposit match on your initial deposit and and then make these picks really quickly before they change the lines on them so for me I’m pairing mahomes’s free square with Isaiah Pacho who’s had at least one touchdown in his last five

Games so that’s easy and Christian mcaffrey who has had more than 88.5 rushing yards in four of his last five games of course I give away all my picks for free on Instagram and I highly recommend you turn on notifications for my Instagram story so you can get the

Picks quickly before they move the lines and you lose your advantage and thank you prize pick for the sponsor M check one 12 two what’s going on everybody the origin of load management is widely believed to have been started by the San Antonio Spurs who some blame for the

League’s new participation rule even though they didn’t use the term at the time on March 25th 2012 the Spurs were playing for the third night in a row during the lockout shortened 2011 to 2012 season against the Philadelphia 76ers that night the Spurs took the remarkable step of listing Tim Duncan a

Month before he turned 36 out because he was old Duncan spent the game on the bench in Street close even picking up a technical foul the Spurs won easily and little was made of the incident then during the next season in late November 2012 the Spurs were scheduled to play a

Game in Miami on TNT the Spurs were playing on the second night of a back-to-back their fourth game in five nights and the last game of a six-game road trip over the course of 9 days this was supposed to be a huge game featuring teams with Incredible records between

San Antonio who had just played in the Western Conference finals and the Miami heed who had just won the champion ship instead the Spurs benched their big three of Tim Duncan Tony Parker and Monty job and starting two guard Danny Green he didn’t just bench them they

Sent them home with four players flying commercial from the Orlando Airport to get back to San Antonio the Spurs were competitive that night but ultimately they lost to the Miami Heat by Five Points still this drew the eye of then commissioner David Stern who find the team

$250,000 for what he called a disservice to the league and the fans although the league didn’t like it San Antonio technically hadn’t broken any rules and the move was largely defended by coach Greg papovich offering this rational for the decision while adding that the team has made similar resting decisions

Before but what they didn’t know was this would ultimately become the first steps towards the League’s 65 game requirement fast forward a few years and the practice of resting players had rapidly become common place around the league in 2017 Philadelphia arrested Joel and beat on a road trip seemingly

Becoming the first team to rule out their star player because of load management during the 2018 to 2019 season Kawhi Leonard only played in 60 games during his lone season with the Toronto Raptors as the team strategically sat him over the course of the year to keep him healthy and happy

He didn’t play in both games of a back-to-back All Season Toronto was extremely careful with their star player after a disagreement over a quad injury helped engineer his exit out of San Antonio during the 2019 finals Leonard credited the Raptor load management as a huge reason for his monster postseason

On his way to leading the Toronto Raptors to their first NBA title but I can also think of a few other things play toson obviously in some pain he grabbed that left knee right away that offseason Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said that the Dallas Mavericks would certainly load manage Chris STS

Porzingis who is coming off of a torn ACL citing kawh Leonard as an example of its potential benefits the next season with the Los Angeles Clippers again missed games due to load management early in the season during National televised games the league would find Clippers coach Doc Rivers $50,000 early

That season for comments that were inconsistent with Leonard’s Health saying Kawai felt great even though he was out that night the NBA also sent out a memo that month telling teams not to use the term load management when resting players otherwise they’d be subject to fines ahead of the 2022 to

2023 season the NBA announced that they were cutting down on back-to-backs and travel to improve game quality and hopefully cut back on load management still the league didn’t find this to be adequate enough on its own with star players still regularly getting a game or two off multiple times during the

Season in the spring of 20123 the league and Players Association agreed to a new 7-year collective bargaining agreement beginning in 2023 to 2024 and stretching through the end of the decade one key detail included a rule stating that players must play for 20 minutes for at

Least 65 games to be eligible for awards and honors like MVP Defensive Player of the Year and all NBA while there are some narrow conditions to the 65 game minimum the league wanted this rule in place to curb load management and ensure their star players play when they’re

Healthy the normally quiet kawh Leonard who some credit for the widespread use of load management went off on the League’s new policy during media day I mean I’m not a guy that’s sitting down cuz um doing a Low’s management like well my when I was with the Raptors it

Was different like I was coming from an injury and you have to know the details of a doctor um but if the league is seeing or trying to mock what I did with the Raptors then they should stop because I was injured during that whole year so no League

Policy is helping me to play more games if the new 65 game rule wasn’t direct enough the NBA made their thoughts on load management Crystal Clear shortly before the season began NBA executive VP of basketball operations Joe Dumar said that load management is no longer supported by scientific data Dumar a

Member of the bad boy Detroit Pistons in the 80s and 99s also said that the culture in the NBA is that players should want to play in all 82 games this is a pretty strong departure from what Commissioner Adam Silver said during last All-Star break I hesitate to weigh

In on an issue as to whether players are playing enough because there is real medical data and scientific data about what’s appropriate during the press conference at the inseason tournament Adam Silver struck a noticeably different tone with an elaborate answer defending the League’s new stance on load management I think

What what Joe is saying is that we have no data that it prevents injuries I don’t think there’s any question that a player that’s playing three games out of four nights for example when a player is tired that it impacts performance question is I think the ultimate notion

Behind load management isn’t so much that um there isn’t a fall off in performance when you’re tired and fatigued the question is that lead to more injuries and and especially the way load management is now used it’s not even so much of a specific Focus that this player is tired and maybe more

Likely to be injured in the moment it was used in a way programmatically where on you know November 5th teams are circling games on December 12th and saying based on our program The Players should not be participating in that game I think what Joe what Joe was saying and

I think it’s our belief that we have no solid dat that that is effective and so performance yes but I think that’s an issue we have to balance out in terms of the business side of it and the expectation from our fans um that players will and media that the players

Will play when they are otherwise healthy the league sharp stance on the issue combined with the cba’s new 65 game rule already appears to be shaping the availability of star players for one thing kawh Leonard and Paul George load Management culprits in the past have played the heavy majority of games this

Season but it’s also called into question the need for some stars to play even when they’re not healthy in order to reach the 65 game minimum last season’s MVP Joel embiid made a strong case to win the award again especially after scoring a franchise record 70 points against the Spurs in late January

However the League’s leading scorer and betting favorite for MVP was very close to missing enough games to rule him out of the award race this included a late scratch and what was supposed to be an epic Clash against nicoa yic and Denver in a move that Drew a fine from the NBA

And rightful mockery from nuggets [Applause] fans after all Joel embiid hasn’t faced off against Nicole yic in half a decade that criticism and the 65 game rule possibly played into the decision to return for a recent game against the Warriors which is increasingly looking like a mistake and be did not look

Healthy at all that night culminating in his worst shooting game of the season and he had to leave early after Jonathan kaminga collided with his knee during a loose ball he’s since been diagnosed with a displaced flap in his meniscus and at the time of this video has

Officially decided that he will need to have surgery on his meniscus according to Adrien wowski 76er star Joel mbid the reigning MVP will undergo a procedure this week to repair a left miniscus injury there’s an expectation that he will miss an extended period of time during the night that they faced off

Against each other Draymond Green blamed the situation on the new 65 game rule Joel playing tonight felt very much so because of the 65 game limit where I think is actually quite in turn you get Joel who comes out there tonight and he forces it and freak play with him and JK

Diving for the ball but maybe it’s not as bad if the knee isn’t already banged up I don’t really bang with it and now we got one of our Premier faces in this league the MVP of our league possibly hurt for an extended period of time because he’s forcing it now Draymond

Green isn’t the only player who voiced is displeasure with the rule Indiana’s Tyrese halberton an Allstar starter call the rule stupid he’s primed for an all NBA selection thanks to his breakout season while leading the league in assists but after a hamstring injury sidelined him for almost 3 weeks he’s in

Jeopardy of becoming ineligible for the honor and maybe more importantly to him a lot of money last off season halberton signed a 5-year Max contract extension with the Pacers that kicks in next next season worth a base value of $24.5 million his new contract will be worth

25% of next season’s salary cap if he doesn’t make all NBA and 30% of the cap if he does make all NBA pushing the total value to over $245 million as a result not making all NBA this season could cost halberton over $40 million no wonder why he’s called this a stupid

Rule with top players ineligible for all NBA it will expand the pool of players who could receive the honor even if they’re not a top 15 player Philadelphia’s Tyrese Maxi a firsttime Allstar has a greater chance of earning an all-nba nod if halberton and others don’t meet the 65 game threshold that

Could make his upcoming extension with the 76ers worth 30% of the salary cap something that halton’s contract would not allow if for example Maxi made all NBA instead of him with more potential all NBA players comes more players who want the higher salaries they’re eligible for and that’s especially true

With more experienced players who are eligible for higher percentages of the cap the longer they’re in the league teams may not be willing to pay maximum salaries if they don’t think they’re all NBA player is as good as other players who were ineligible because of the 65

Game rule but it’s not just player contracts that the league had in mind when pushing to add the new rule the NBA’s National Television contracts with Disney and Warner Brothers expire at the end of the 2024 to 2025 season the League’s exclusive negotiating window with both companies expires in April

However that’s expected to pass without a deal which fuels the belief that their new TV deal could set the standard for sports streaming rights the league will undoubtedly still negotiate with Disney and Warner Brothers to air games on TNT ABC and ESPN but also streamers like YouTube TV Apple TV peacock and even

Netflix inconsistent player participation because of load management threatens the value of the NBA’s product which in turn could hurt their potential earnings during these upcoming negotiations why would a potential TV partner pay big dollars if they can’t rely on Star players suiting up for a nationally televised game that could

Cost them millions maybe billions to broadcast implementing this rule while adding more high-profile games like the playin and inseason tournaments are a big reason why the NBA is aiming to significantly increase their television Revenue which in turn increases the salary cap and player salaries that’s likely a significant factor that guided

The players association’s decision to accept this rule in the new CBA so almost like the league is saying to their players we all make a load of money from our television deals and we could be getting way more play when you’re healthy don’t F this up that’s also before considering the League’s

Partnership with multiple Sports books and the rapid rise of sports gambling Sports books have set spreads and money lines based on game to game availability while setting odds for awards races that could leave them vulnerable if top contenders for awards miss the 65 game threshold players who began with long

Shot odds could end up with a better chance at winning MVP or Defensive Player of the Year at the f favorites like embiid for example ultimately become ineligible because of the new rule the new rule impacts nearly every aspect of the NBA’s business and while it aimed to solve a player participation

Problem unique to their league it’s starting to look like that this new rule is doing more harm than good so let me know in the comments section down below is this 65 game rule ruining the NBA aside from that I’m your boy Mike and I’m dropping our mic until our next upload

  1. There are too many games in a season and people dont care to watch rhat many games anyway

  2. These players bitching is funny, it’s what you get for being soft. MJ would average 45+ in this cupcake era and would play all 82 games

  3. It’s a good rule. And it sucks Embiid got hurt but tbh it would’ve happened in the playoffs eventually (unless he’d load manage those games too). And like others said, you can’t be mvp playing 50 games in the year.

  4. How about they break their salaries up by 82. If they dress they get paid. If they sit, they don't

  5. The NBA allows teams to tank, so allow teams to sit players for rest during the season. When teams tank, players don't play at their full potential. So why not just let players sit out and rest. What's the difference?

  6. If this rule of 65 games affected say half the league, then they would do something! But that’s not the case is it.

  7. 65 games is about 80% of the games
Try showing up to work 80% of the time and see how it works out for everyone

  8. In Sumo the rikishi are expected to perform in the basho every other month. If you withdraw you lose rank and very quickly salary. So many wrestlers "play" through injury sometimes resulting in career ending complications. I think it is smart to protect your investment as an organization and as a player. I'd rather see players play for a long time and succeed rather than a short time and only get brought up as examples in broadcasts and "what ifs".

  9. I thought there was a clause that didn't consider only 65 games if a player was injured. I remember the ruckus caused when Bill Walton won the MVP in '78 playing less than 60 games. Personally I like the rule; if I'm playing to go to a game, I want to see the best players physically available; injuries don't count.

  10. It’s a good rule jus think they should lower the amount of games u gotta play, bunch y’all favorite players won’t be getting they respect they deserve, hate the word sitting out games these niggas are actually hurt

  11. People add Lebron’s longevity as part of the reason why he is the GOAT, same thing for end of season awards, aside from the numbers they should be judged on their availability

  12. Embiid hasn’t faced Jokic (in Denver) in half a decade. Context is important. Other then that he gets the best of him but let’s keep that on the 🤫

  13. If you're not available to work for 75% of the year you're not eligible for any salary bonuses. Seems fair to me, especially since availability is already being factored into who wins these awards anyway whether the players realize it or not. However I will say since there's a hard limit on it now, some weird/undeserved MVP/All-NBA selections are certainly on the horizon

  14. Kawhi hasn’t played more than 60 games since he left San Antonio. He can say whatever he wants about not load managing but he’s for sure fooling everyone else

  15. “ could cost Halliburton 40 million dollars” bro the man still signed a 200 million dollar contract… him losing 40 of it really doesn’t effect him let’s be honest… dude still has a nice house with sports cars…. He might just have to sell one now lol NOT they are rich PLAY THE FLIPPING GAME PERIOD.

  16. The Golden state player is dirty. He did not need to throw his body onto Embiids knee. He should be suspended until Embiid comes back

  17. I feel like they should keep the 65 game rule but lower it to 60 games if players get injured. That way they still have a chance

  18. It's always some dumb shit involving the Warriors that results in an opposing star player getting injured… It's happened far too often…
