The Pistons and Jazz just made a trade that could change the entire market

Yeah we have a trade we have a trade that just happened thiso one yes I already said this Fred yeah we talked about this we had thaning out 14c segment on it that was we need we need we need to address this we need to address this he about

Danny in Utah if he says something about how Utah this means Utah is gonna like maybe sell some pieces off then we know he wasn’t listening if we can’t get if we can’t get a a co-host to lock in how are we going to get the listeners to Lo

In just hear me out there’s there’s something to discuss here Detroit is sending Washington the better of Washington’s or memphis’s second round pick to Utah for this that pick that might be like the 32nd 33rd pick in the draft that’s a really really good second rounder if

Fonio and it’s just Kevin Knox in in the 2024 second so it’s really just salary filler if if fonia on an expiring when you’re going to have to pay him in restricted free agency next year maybe not some ginormous number but you’ll have to pay him whatever the market

Dictates he’s worth it’s not going to be super Team friendly in all likelihood he’s probably just going to get what he wor is’s worth fairly if fonio is commanding basically as good of a second round pick as you’re going to get then I think we’re going to start to see maybe

First round picks change in value like it’s going to be hard now for someone who wants to trade to Bruce for Bruce Brown to be like okay well we don’t want to give up a first I think Toronto’s going to be like well Utah just got like

The third 31st 32 33rd pick in the draft coming up for fonio so like I think I think maybe this is what could push some stuff over the edge teams to be like well that’s what it’s dictating now why did Detroit make that trade yeah there’s that question well they need they need

Shooting Lord knows what they need is a is a 30 second pick and a draft is Reb I mean look let’s just base it on on on James edwards’s reporting that that the Pistons have 60 million in room this upcoming summer and they don’t want to

You Fred cats they don’t want to use it just to take in bad contracts and get draft picks for it they tried to do that the last two summers and for what it’s worth the types of contracts they got in the draft compensation they got back was not really anything worthwhile it’s not

Like they were getting f they were taking on like Joe Harris and and and getting a second out of it and that kind of stuff they were taking on Alec Burks and nland noell and getting a second out of it uh they it wasn’t really anything

That was needle moving to begin with and they seem like they want to get better from where they are now I think Pro the most likely scenario is them getting better from where they are but being like a 20 some OD win team and potentially sacrificing your future in

Order to just win 20 semi games but I think that’s why Detroit Detroit did it uh fono also it should be said like second year he’s actually a really quality player he’s good shooter good Wing but he’s 28 like he he it’s not like he’s you know 22 the thing like

Like this trade makes more sense for I don’t know a team in the playoffs team yeah also also you wanna you want to have a good catch and shoot guy who can help your offense maybe play Marcus Sasser more than six seconds a game who’s shooting 40 some odd percent from

Three and and and does a rookie having a really Good Year and legitimately looks like he’s going to be a player maybe maybe play him more than more than 16 seconds a game maybe try that before you give up a really good second round pick anyway I just I could see that affecting

The market to a degree I don’t know what that trade says about Utah because I just feel like that that’s really good return for that that trade to me like I said earlier says like Utah selling you know

The Athletic NBA Show discuss the Detroit Pistons and the Utah Jazz trade involving Simone Fontecchio.

  1. Who cares about a second rd pick on a young team with cap space ESPECIALLY if the guy your trading for is probably better than the player you may or may not draft…

  2. I don't see how Sasser is a solution to Piston's shooting issues. He plays point, which we have 2 top 5 picks in front of him, plus Burks. What we need is guys over 6'7" who can shoot. Hence, Muscala, Danilo, Fontecchio. Our spacing issues are not the back court its a front court issue. After Bogey there was no one who could play 3, 4, or 5 that could consistently shoot the 3. I think with the two trades we have done we have changed that. Now Beef Stew can play a back-up big role and Duren can play next to a 3 and 4 that can shoot, which in theory should give the point guards more space to operate.

  3. 2024 picks have less value than other years…this draft is ASS. High 2nd this year is equal to borderline UDFA’s in other years

  4. Detroit doesn't need the 32nd pick in the draft. They need quality veterans who can shoot and play defense. The problem with Pistons is straight youth. Their core 4 has an average of 20. This move is abut getting shooting and a solid defender. Which Detroit desperately needs not a player whose most likely going to spend most if his first year in the G league. How are they sacrificing the future they have 4 top 5 selections. (Cade, Ivey, Duren, Ausar). Not to mention Sasser off the bench. How many more young players does the Detroit Pistons need to have a future? What is this non sense ya'll talking. A bunch amateurs. Lol

  5. Also most of the time the 32nd pick is a player of Simone Fontecchio caliber. 32 pick normally equals a role player. A role player who can shoot and defend is great value thats the hope. Gosh some the stupid stuff people say. 😂😂😂😂

  6. Utah made the trade so they can free up floor space for Taylor Hendricks, while getting some value back in a high 2nd rd pick.

  7. Speaking as a Detroit fan Sasser is not gonna save us he plays his heart out when he gets on the court, but he’s to young and unpolished to truly be effective. Also he gets bullied on the inside far to often. The team is looking to improve its shooting efficiency from beyond the arc, and needs players who are hungry for more shots per game.
