Shaq on Bucks 1-4 Start Under Doc Rivers: ‘They’re awful on defense’ | NBA on TNT Postgame

Bucks they are one in four under Doc Rivers they’re going to have to figure that out Giannis his 30th game of 30 plus points the season and he passes embiid with 24 games of 30 and 10 some sound after the game yeah the confidence is growing you

Can see it you know um you know made a couple mistakes which which is fine but you can see the confidence you can see the talking at halftime they were talking about the the little running jumps we’re going to do in the second half so uh the defensive confidence is

Absolutely growing and you know that’s a big thing for this team they can get that confidence uh that takes us to a different level so this was a Bucks team did not have Damen Lillard lost Middleton very early in this one you all right I I don’t know if I understand

That statement that he said the confidence is growing you need confidence Candace Hall of Fame Parker need confidence Jamal no I’m all right well let’s just like me and Charles we have this argument all the time first of all you have to want to play defense right not the greatest defensive player

But being on the team we had timely stops like I’m good enough to say I’m not going to let you store this possession I’m good enough to look at the clock and see we got two minutes left I’m good enough to be like hey we need some stops they could focus on that

To start I think it be better like right now they I don’t I don’t know what they’re doing I don’t know what they’re defend schemes are but can’t come in and say the confidence is gone confidence should already be there do you want to win a championship or not you want to

Win a championship these are the things you have to do you got to sacrifice you got to play a certain way you got to dominate you know you got to be in games and again like you have to and again me and choke we always have to have this

This this argument my teams weren’t great defensive team but when Portland got us up by 17 time for us to buckle down now okay hey just you know one stop at a time one position Poss of time you know get back in the game and and do

That I think if they could do that I could be better but I mean but right now they’re just they’re awful on defense on the other side I just want to talk Suns said they’ve won 11 of 14 they shot 50% or better for the nth time in the last

10 games second time his teammates that Durant Booker and Beal all dropped 25 plus this is their 20th time playing together they’re now 13 and seven whenever a team makes moves the question is do they have enough time to gel Jamal I feel like you have been supporting the

Suns for most of this year saying give them time where are they in the progression towards the playoffs they’re where they need to be I don’t think they’re peaked I think they have a lot better basketball ahead of them but what I didn’t like tonight was that their big

Three only had eight assists and to me they’re better when the ball is moving and then they show their talent versus going one-on-one every single time they’re talented enough to do it but you don’t want to do that every single time and keep continuity with everybody else

So for me tonight wasn’t one of their better games but they still found a way to win and I think for them they’ll be picking at the right time comeing playoffs I think KD is the guy period right and I I think everybody knows that um and I think the earlier that they

Realize he is the guy offense they don’t know I don’t like looking at the game it doesn’t seem like it I think what is Booker I think Devin Booker is a guy that’s going to win you a number of games he’s a guy you need but think he’s

Number two and as a playmaker I still will say this they need somebody to come in and be able to get them in their offense especially in the fourth quarter to get KD easier looks because that’s what a point guard does is gets the number one guy easier looks and

Organized and organized and I think once you start playing off of KD where the offense starts with him and then the ball can pop it’ll make things easier on the offensive end for Phoenix it’s interesting stat k shoots 19 shots a game Booker shoots 19 and a half so

They’re pretty much even in the we’re both number one if it is a one two split what should those numbers actually be I don’t think it’s necessarily shots okay I think it’s offensive flow it’s the offense being dictated off of a first action for Kevin Durant gotcha and then everything

Else operates off of that I think now to some extent you have a guy like Devin Booker that could benefit from playing off of the catch got so that’s what a point guard to me would do that’s what I was going to say I think ktie the shots

Are the same but the way they get the shots are different KD plays off the catch he plays off of others better so when he gets the ball it’s very decisive mid mid-range shot get to the basket catch and shoot three make a play for somebody else he’s playing simplified

Basketball he’s playing Perfection basketball he doesn’t take bad shots so with him I think he should be the top guy and then everybody else play off for that

NBA on TNT crew reacts to Doc River’s comments on the Bucks gaining confidence despite a 1-4 start since he became head coach, and talk the Phoenix Suns starting to get hot with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.

  1. Obviously, KD has yet to prove he can win without Steph, Klay, Draymond, and the GSW system. He's a Scottie Pippen and NOT a Michael Jordan 😅

  2. TNT analysis the basketball games which is so much more comfortable to watch than listening to the ESPN debates

  3. Their defense has actually been a bit better since after the Griffin firing though, although it's just a small sample size. With Griffin, they were allowing 120pts per game, that was top 5 worst. In the 8 games since the firing, they've allowed an average of 116pts per game, which would equate to be ranked around 15th, so middle of the pack. Also, 6 of those 8 games were against playoffs teams. With Griffin, just look at his last two games, they were both against the Pistons, worst team in the NBA whom were without their best player Cade as well, & in those two games they allowed a total of 248 points, they struggled to win both games. The people who just keeps bringing up Griffins record do not actually watch games. They were struggling to win every game, I mean that's okay against good teams, but they were struggling against bad teams too. The games they won, was just their talent bailing them out, they weren't winning because of coaching. If you have players like Giannis & Dame on your team, of course you're gonna be a 50-win team, no matter who's coaching, that does not mean the coach is doing good though. Just look at Steve Nash with KD, Harden, & Kyrie. Steve Nash isn't necessarily a good coach, but they had the 2nd seed in 2021.

  4. They have fired some good coaches. They deserve every hardship they’re experiencing right now. Not that it’s a hardship really. It’s laziness. They’re being too lazy on defense.

  5. Yeah that's what Golden State did with KD ran the offense through him and won 2 rings if OKC would have done the same KD and Westbrook would have a ring

  6. As a pacers fan buddy is short and isn’t a good defender he’s having a down year but he takes simple shots klay takes very difficult shots at times. All of buddy’s shots are off a shot fake or catch and shoot klay comes off curls and he’s missing a lot of those or trying too much

  7. No dame no Brooke vs fully healthy suns on the road obvious L for the bucks but they only lost by 8 that's pretty good considering Middleton went out in the 1st half aswell

  8. This team should already be confident. They were the 2 seed and knocking on the door of the Cs. How can you still be questioning yourself?

  9. Awful on defense?? Did no one watch last nights game?? Also when did people start to tag Doc for regular season loses?? The knock on doc has never been a regular season knock. Now because everyone wants his coaching to fit their bs “bad coach” narrative every lost will be critically analyzed. Aren’t we judging doc on playoff success or his 5 game regular season??

  10. I thought that Griffin was the problem and Rivers was the savior? Rivers must be high ranking in a secret society, because he gets hook up after hook up!

  11. Trading for Dame was a mistake. This is why it sucks when superstars force teams to make bad trades for incompatible stars. You turned the team from a defensive powerhouse into a team of offensive gunners who can’t lock down the Atlanta Hawks.

  12. People talk about Doc sliding in and stealing the job from Griffin. They say history repeats itself. Well, here's a little backstory on how Doc Rivers' coaching career ALMOST started:

The year is 1999. The city is San Antonio. It's the lockout-shortened NBA season. It's Tim Duncan's second season. Gregg Popovich is the team's head coach. He's also the most-hated man in San Antonio.

Pop joined the Spurs in 1994 not as head coach, but as the team's general manager. It was a slightly odd hire at the time given that he only had a few years of experience in the NBA (all as an assistant—the first few under Larry Brown in San Antonio).

When Pop came on as GM, he needed a head coach so he hired Bob Hill. Hill was popular in San Antonio because the team had great regular season records and they showed promise in the playoffs. But Pop abruptly fired him early in Hill's 3rd season, 1997. Pop then named HIMSELF the team's new head coach despite only having head coaching experience at the NCAA D3 level.

It was a rough start for Pop. He was booed mercilessly for firing Hill, especially due to the odd timing (David Robinson had been injured and was set to return the day before Pop fired Hill). The team was horrendous in their first year under Pop.

But they were lucky enough to get the #1 overall pick and draft Tim Duncan. Even though Pop promised that he would relinquish either his GM or head coach role at the end of his first season, he instead held both roles and coached Tim Duncan as a rookie in 1998.

By the time 1999 came around, fans were getting angry. They'd just lost in the second round and felt he was squandering Duncan's talents by running a simple, predictable offense. And despite having David Robinson, they weren't exactly dominating. They started the 1999 season 6—9. Unacceptable.

So Spurs ownership made a decision. If the losing continued for the next few games, they would fire Pop as head coach and GM. His replacement was right there on the front row providing color commentary for the Spurs. That's right, Doc Rivers was on the Spurs' announce team and he'd made it known that he was ready to step in as head coach.

News leaked and Pop got the memo. The Spurs went on to win their next 9 straight games and would end the season as NBA champions. Doc then left to join ESPN and eventually became head coach of the Orlando Magic. I'm sure most people know the story about Duncan almost going to Orlando.

But know you know…the rest of the sto-RY.

  13. Confidence growing? Bro the team had confidence when they traded for Lillard, confidence was growing when they were winning. It’s not growing off of losses.

  14. Shaq is 100 correct the Bucks Defense Is terrible. Bucks are the oldest team in the NBA and its showing. Middleton Gets hurt getting out of bed!

  15. do yall even watch the games ?? they look a LOT better on defense , theyve been dealing with a ton of injuries AND had 3 games in 4 days against largely rly good teams with a coach who JUST GOT THERE

  16. Bucks management is the problem they made all these Moves from players to coaches and they also Listened to Giannis and Now Giannis has a blame to br of along with management.
