Celtics Trade: What Xavier Tillman Brings to the Boston Celtics & More Moves Coming?

Welome in I’m kenani Stevens here with John corales from lockon Celtics as we’re checking in as the trade deadline approaches for the NBA not a bunch of huge deals but we do have our first kind of deal of the day as Xavier tilman’s coming from the Grizzlies to the Celtics

Uh two draft picks going the other way on it uh so not a huge uh difference there but kind of was your immediate reaction John to to this addition to the team so I mean Brad Steven stocked up on the second rounders for a reason he knew

He was going to get rid of those uh and so this is a great deal I think a great deal for what it is right a bench piece uh a a really solid Defender who is going to set good screens and be a uh an important part on both ends of the floor

For Boston uh maybe he’ll play maybe he won’t play that that’s kind of like a a pre requisite for being traded to Boston Brad Stevens has said it’s more insurance that he’s looking for but I think Tillman can actually be part of that rotation where maybe the eighth man

In in the rotation the seventh man in that rotation kind of depending on where they they they need to go he can play up a position he’s like six seven 68 but he can he can guard bigger guys so uh nice versatile fit I think it’s a solid

Pickup Brad Stevens I think uh got exactly what he was looking for getting that role player obviously when you’re contending for a championship you need those kinds of guys that’s what’s going to help you get over the the top there um this does leave some extra room

Though it’s not you know the end of the road necessarily is this something where you’re looking ahead and saying maybe there’s another move to come it could be because he he makes just enough to fit into everybody’s been talking about the six6 6.2 million uh Grant Williams traded player exception we haven’t

Really talked about this Justin Jackson play traded player exception which expires in two days uh and is one point 1.8 and change and with the little wiggle room that you get he fits into this into that so it’s possible that Brad Stevens has another move up his

Sleeve now they had one open roster spot and Tillman slides right into that uh they would have to open up another roster spot to use the $6.2 million Grant Williams traded player exception which they can do they have the green light to spend uh however much they need

To spend this year there’s no limits to what Brad Stevens can do so that that 6.2 million is still there in his back pocket he can still use it if he needs to so uh Celtics aren’t out of the running yet for some of the other players that might have been rumored if

You did see them kind of going out making one more addition is there somewhere that you would really like to see them add or something specifically that they’re missing at this point well no it’s I I really like where this team is they’re a 62- win team I mean they’re

On Pace to be a 62 win team they are the top team in the NBA as far as net rating and point differential so there’s not a lot of tweaks to be made uh could they go find some more shooting sure more shooting Off the Bench uh is always

Helpful so I mean is there room to go get like an Alec Burks or something like that who I mean not the biggest name not the sexiest name uh but anybody that can go and actually hit a couple of shots that won’t be disruptive to the chemistry is is a possibility um so

We’ll see this the Celtics would have to move like I said another player end of bench m or something like that you can you can easily move him into somebody’s cap space for uh a fake second rounder and a little bit of cash this is the last season they’ll be able to spend

Cash because they’re a second apron team but there are ways to get around it uh but for now if this is all that Brad Stevens does this is great this this helps a lot if he goes out and gets some shooting Off the Bench even better uh like you said before anything that
