Recapping the Detroit Pistons Trade Deadlines Moves

Recapping the Detroit Pistons Trade Deadlines Moves

What is his confidence level now you know after this trade deadline what is his confidence level and not just these young guys that he’s drafted but it’s confidence level as well as Kade Cunningham and Jade and Ivy being those dudes yes being those guys being those

Stars there are so many moving pieces to this and not many people including myself can really keep track all I care about now moving forward I I don’t recognize some of the names but do they fit together can they play together can they learn how to play winning

Basketball can they bring out the best in Cade and Jaden Ivy and Thompson and Jaylen Duran Kool-Aid I know you’re going to ask Troy Weaver what his confidence level is but what would you what would be your grade how confident are you in these moves that they just

Made yeah in the moves that I just made I I give it a c that’s what I do it’s it’s kind of a middle of a row grade I believe that they kind of cleared up some log jams a little bit they got some of these vets and some of these older

Kind of voices and players out of here who also when you look at their games I like what Alec Burks and boan can bring on the offensive side of the ball but I do believe they were taking away from guys opportunities like Marcus Sasser like J and iy like uh Jaylen Duren um

But the defensive side is where I believe they got better at this trade deadline they brought in some guys that play just better defense than the guys that left eight players out eight players in that’s kind of how this thing went and like I said um before this

Trade to me is going to either move up or down based on what the rookies what the young players what the guys drafted here to be those guys do with this new opportunity and that’s kind of well the the the main thing I took out of it

There was all these moving pieces but this core is still intact so whatever these moves were made we still have Kad and Jaden and Aur Marcus I should have I should have mentioned Marcus Sasser he’s a huge part of this future in my opinion

Uh are you it may be too early to tell but is there an identity to this team or did the these moves help create an identity or does that have to come this off season with the next moves no no no no if you have to wait until the off

Season to try to create or start to make an identity for yourself I think that’s a little bit too late the end of this season has to be about this team playing better has to be about finding kind of that chemistry and that Rhythm the identity of this team is going to rest

In hard nose basketball hustling never giving up some of the things we’ve seen cuz mind you guys this over the last 12 games does anybody want to take a stab at what the Detroit Pistons record actually is over the last 12 games is it five- seven it’s five- seven it’s five

And seven think about and that’s since they traded for Mike muscala and galinari and they got rid of two players who generally weren’t necessarily helping them on the defensive side of the ball or at stretching the floor this trade deadline brought in a bevy of those types of players who can stretch

The floor at a 36% or higher rate from three and can play really pretty decent defense so now when you look at the fact that this core is now surrounded by like I said before you start surrounding these guys like like they did prior with Drummond and stany Johnson that just

Wasn’t enough of a young core to surround them with Talent or lack thereof like we just saw the Pistons do at this deadline now you’re bringing in that similar type of kind of mid- talent but it’s around guys that you expect can carry the burden of uh of the franchise

So I do believe that the identity of this team is always going to rest in that core working together finding that chemistry playing for each other being for each other and playing honestly hard-nosed tough defensive basketball that we’ve seen associat with Detroit Pistons anytime they’ve been a winner so Kool-Aid talk to me

Brother my dog um I just you know I had time to sit on it and pause and just I just you know I I I don’t know man does this trade just just the deadline in general does it not seem like some of these moves were a bit

Desperate now um You didn’t get full value for bogy um cuz you waited too long to trade him you couldn’t trade killy and hay so much so to to the point that you had to cutting um you got a lot of young players in here and you know

When you see all these kind of moves coming in all at once you kind of think like okay they’re acquiring assets to make a bigger move the bigger move never came um and then I mean yeah you got contract flexibility heading into the off season but I just in a in a weak

Free agent Market um in a draft where you really don’t need to add more young players to this team I just don’t necessarily see the direction or the identity that they’re trying to go in man and it’s some of these moves just absolutely seem desperate to me what

What’s your thoughts on that on the whole trade deadline overall man cuz I I feel like they did not get maximum value for a lot of these picks and a lot of these picks were lateral moves yeah in my opinion and and I see Mark Royal he’s

He’s kind of saying something to Koolaid was just saying how much better the team would be once boan came back from injury now the Pistons are better that he’s traded what is it uh both can be true Boon did make the Pistons a better team he’s a plus player who can shoot from

Three but he also has some deficiencies he wasn’t the same player this year that he was last year and then you mix in injuries to Kade mix in injuries to jayen Duren mixing injuries to Alec Burks and it’s just not okay Boon’s coming back to this healthy team it was

Boan coming back to a team and carrying probably a burden that he shouldn’t have been able to carry um to me personally the identity of this team I’m going to continue to say it it rests in these young players kg that’s just it if Cade and Ivy and durren are those guys if

Durren can be that 2020 threat every single night that we see if K Cunningham can continue to be the connector that he was drafted to be if Jade Navy can be a scorer that continues to put pressure on the opposing team’s defense and if honestly Isaiah Stewart as long as he’s

Here if he can continue to be kind of that Mis tough guy for this squad whether he’s starting or coming off the bench this is what the identity is going to be behind uh I don’t think that the moves are desperate I believe it would have been more desperate even though I

Was kind of for it if they would have went and made a move for LaVine before the the the Legg andry if they would have gone out there and kind of you know did what they did with Blake Griffin as Rob beer called it Blake Griffin 2.0 that’s where I believe they get

Desperate I think that that move would have helped them but I also believe it would have capped their ceiling right now you’re putting this thing in and I think it’s the right thing to do you’re putting this on the shoulders of your young guys a large part of this five-

Seven stretch over the last 12 games for the Pistons because it’s not just the last two games their last five wins you go back and you look at who’s leading this team and you start to see their identity it’s their belief and their faith and their trust in the process of

The young players that they believed initially would lead this team back Troy Weaver said it in the beginning uh I think it was after it was after the draft of Jaylen durran and Jay Ivy he stated that these are our guys these are the players that

We want to be able to fit around them and seven days after seven days before free agency last year after assar and Marcus Sasser he did stay again we want to move forward with our young core but we want to be able to take a year to assess this team underneath new coach

Monty Williams and his system uh clearly after that assessment they came away with feeling that this young Corp was better suited to be able to lead the charge more so than even needing that heavy heavy kind of Veteran presence on the team and so I don’t necessarily see

It as desperate I believe that they managed their cap space well they uh created some opportun they’ve been doing that yeah but I I tell people this all the time you can either do things linearly and just pick your one draft pick every single year and then go out there and

Try as a Detroit team to lure in a free agent or you can go out there over three years three to four seasons and get in more solid draft picks than any other GM in the last I don’t know 15 20 30 years in Detroit Pistons history you look back

At the previous drafts I I believe that the draft picks that Troy Weaver has bought in they probably land somewhere in the top top 10 easily top 10 easily you think about some of these draft picks Stanley Johnson seu deoya you know the better ones you’re going to come

Away with are going to be taan Prince and Andre Drummond those are your those are the ones that can rival and compare to what Troy Weaver has done in a shorter span being able to kind of acquire a lot of talent and that’s the thing these guys still have to develop

They still got to get better and I believe that we’re starting to see them kind of hit their stride a little bit that 5- seven stretch I don’t believe that that’s Fool’s Gold it was on them They Carried the Burd

  1. This team is doomed. NOBODY worth anything is coming to this shit team. Also, you have ZERO draft capital now to make any moves of significance. Troy Weaver has destroyed this organization, and if he's allowed to stay through another offseason, then we'll be set back even further.

  2. The two-way potential and 3pt shooting of Grimes, Italian boy and Brown and freeing up our core 4-5 to develop (addition by subtraction) is what makes this trade a B grade from me. Love that we don't have any major defensive liabilities 1-9. Next season we can bundle some of these young bloods for a vet starter and or sign Harris or god forbid, Bridges.

  3. Troy took back his team!!..monty is not playing dumb anymore…waived even Gallo…troy just set the rotation for monty!!! there will be no 40 games and monty comes up and says ahs, ohs, .ums…

  4. You added Fontecchio to replace Bogey. You added Grimes an above average perimeter defender and shooter to replace Burks. You have Flynn as a potential third point guard behind Sasser. And…Fournier is another shooter who could potentially contribute or not.

The moves showed a commitment to the success of the core four without destroying flexibility with poison pill contracts. 🤷🏾‍♂️

  5. The problem I have with saying these are your best draft picks in 30 years is they were gotten off of the worst 4 year stretch in pistons history. Troy isn't finding guys in the teens. He isn't finding 2nds that overplay their value. He got the 1st pick by being terrible. He's gotten 2 5ths by being terrible. Duren is a solid pick. But I also feel like detroit would hype up Mark Williams and Kessler if they were here. 2 guys after him.

  6. You don’t have to like their proses, but if you don’t see what they were trying to do, you don’t know enough about the pistons to be paid money to talk about the pistons….

  7. Troy Weaver has finally gotten 80% of the Pieces together. A suprise piece would be to bring back Drummond as the Back up Center. He is getting 20pts and 20rebs in Chicago.

I can't wait to see the Energy these hard working Detroit type 3 D players are going to bring to team. Perimeter Defense and floor spacing with 3 point shooting. Fontecchio, Grimes, and TBJ. I will not be surprised if we win 20 of 30. Better Defense and Better offense. Ivey and Cade will be able to operate. Now, Ivey is displaying his much improved 3 point shooting. With the infusion of the 3D's, he won't miss 12 layups as he did last night. Play hard on both sides of the floor, minimize the Turn over's and share the basketball and the season is saved! If they play this way!

  8. Feels like Troy made moves that force Monty to play the core players. Monty was making dumb decisions like insisting on working with Killian and playing KH over Ivey. The return value on Troy Weaver trades always sucks. Nothing new there (waited too long to trade Jerami Grant and Bojan, unnecessarily attached a second rounder to trade Plumlee to Charlotte, wasted an opportunity to sign and trade Christian wood, traded away Saddiq for what has amounted to nothing in James Wiseman). Grimes is a good prospect, but this feels like a great opportunity to play the core guys 35-40 mins a game and let them build their calluses

  9. Don’t look now but Ivey is shooting that thang. 50% from 3 over the last 10 games. Dude needs a green light and less rigidity from Monty. Just let him go. If anything, work with Cade on getting his 3 pointer up to scratch and make him stop with those fucking terrible jump-pass turnovers

  10. They actually added more picks to the draft cupboard through all these deals; 2nd round picks are worth more because of the new CBA. 1st round picks are still worth going after a big name, don't get me wrong, but the Pistons aren't looking for that; nor should they. The pick that has yet to convey for the Knicks will only convey at the Pistons say. The Pistons will most likely let it convey this year if they don't like the draft pick they can get, or wait until next year when they will have more of a middle of the road record. Saying things are dire when you have your core pieces is just not accurate or meaningful. The sky isn't falling and the front office did a good job working around the margins to improve the team in what it lacked; depth at the wing positions. These moves also certify the rotation. Part of the reason the rotations were so all over the place was because Troy and Arn were asking Monty to showcase guys that they were trying to off-load and get value out of. Problem is, you (as the seller) don't get to dictate the market and that is something that Troy is learning. I think he took for granted how easy it became for Presti when he was in the OKC front office… You have to do years of work and create great relationships with other GMs to get the respect that Presti has. Troy will get there, now. The cupboard isn't bare, the cap space will help sign your young guys without penalty due to bird rights, and they'll be able to experiment with signing good veterans who work around their young talent. Bogey and Burks could score, but Bogey was a dog crap teammate to the young guys and had no business being on the roster. They got better at this deadline, whether people would like to admit it or not. There's just always "doom and gloom" when it comes to Detroit sports… Sometimes you have to look at trades for what they are and move on. Troy did good by the team and Monty at the deadline. Now it's time to watch the young guys play together and build proper chemistry with shooters and defenders around them. Everyone just take a deep breath and chill.
