How BAD Is Emoni Bates Actually?

How BAD Is Emoni Bates Actually?

The biggest freshman name in the entire country ammani Bates ammani Bates is at the top of his class the IP Salan Lincoln started the top freshman in the country Michigan State offered baits he said today he already has offers from Florida State and Paul deanii Bates uh the standout guard forward at Eastern

Michigan University Eastern Michigan basketball star immani Bates has been suspended from the team and that follows a gun arrest with the 49th pick in the 2023 NBA draft thean Cleveland Cavaliers select imanii Bates ammani Bates had one of the most electrifying and highly anticipated come- UPS in the past decade his

Exceptional scoring ability tall and skinny build and versatile gameplay Drew comparisons to Kevin Durant at just 14 years old however from being labeled as the next Kevin Durant to just barely getting his name called on draft day Amman has has not yet lived up to the generational hype that was once placed

On him so what exactly happened to ammani Bates how did a kid that was once labeled as a generational recruit fall all the way to the back half of the second round there sure is a lot that led up to this point so to fully understand the story behind it all let’s

Go back to when ammani bat was first discovered the phrase child prodigy often gets thrown around but in the case of ammani Bates it was more than Justified as a seventh grader he was Unstoppable he averaged a 40 double double and simply outclassed the competition he was regarded as the best

Middle school basketball player in the world even getting offered a division one scholarship by depal University at just 13 years old Amman was becoming a viral basketball sensation before even touching a high school basketball court in his very first High School game Amman scored 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds

And finished his freshman year of high school averaging 29 Points and 10 rebounds which are almost impossible numbers to put up as a High School freshman although the Amman hype was real as early as Middle School the Amman hype became next level after his first season of high school basketball a 69

15-year-old kid who had a similar frame to Durant and who even had the same fluidity and effortless ability to score the basketball the basketball media could not stop talking about his potential then in his sophomore season and to no one’s surprise he dominated even more he averaged a whopping 32

Points and nine rebounds in his sophomore campaign including a ridiculous 63 points and 21 rebounds and a 108 102 double overtime win after showcasing an insane sophomore season he had solidified himself at top all the rankings Amman was not only regarded as the best sophomore in the country but

The best player in all of high school basketball regardless of class which is completely unheard of as a sophomore he was ranked over the top seniors in the country in the future top three picks of the 2021 NBA draft Kade Cunningham J green and Evan Moy Scouts were raving

Night and day about ammani Bates he graced the cover of Sports Illustrated at only 15 years old with the headline Magic Michael LeBron and the 15-year-old who’s next in line if that headline was not enough of a projection to be an all-time great I don’t know what is we

Know the greatest High School Prospect ever was LeBron James who graced the cover of Sports Illustrated at 17 yet here was ammani Bates gracing the same cover at 15 and being in the same headline as three of the greatest players in NBA history and to top it off

He even made history becoming the youngest player ever to win the Gatorade National Player of the Year as a sophomore and yes he won that award over future number one overall pick Cade Cunningham after his historic sophomore year in June of 2020 Amman committed to Hometown Powerhouse Michigan State under

Hall of Fame coach Tom ISO he also announced that he will play his final 2 years of high school basketball at Ypsi Prep Academy created by his father his junior year was much of the same dominance averaging 23 points five rebounds and three assists and being

Named one of the five finalists for the naith prep Player of the Year award however on April 30th 201 21 Amman decommitted from Michigan State and reopened his recruitment saying he was considering other college or even professional Alternatives then on August 4th 2021 he announced that he would be

Forgoing his senior year of high school and reclassifying to the class of 2021 meaning he could attend college in the fall at just 17 years old even upon reclassifying Amman still ranked as high as third on ES pn’s class of 2021 rankings and let’s not forget Amman was

Still not committed at this point in late August and the basketball world was eager to hear where he would play in the fall just 20 days after reclassifying ammani committed to play for former NBA All-Star Penny Hardway at the University of Memphis there Amman a 17-year-old freshman would debut and team up with

Five-star freshman big man Jaylen dur forming one of the top college freshman Duos in the country initially everything seemed promising as ammani took on point guard responsibilities and Memphis enjoyed early success he was even named American Athletic Conference freshman of the week but soon thereafter things

Started to unfold for Rani as his game was being more scrutinized at the next level see with Amman having to handle the ball more than ever flaws in his game became apparent his defensive skills were lacking he struggled to create plays for his teammates and his shot selection was

Questionable at best which made him look far from the star studded NBA Prospect he was propped up to be ammani never found his rhythm at Memphis and averaged under 9.7 points 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists while leading Memphis in turnovers and shooting under 40% from the field the once promising Memphis

Team began to lose a lot of games with ammani later going down with a back injury in late January although he made a return for the NCAA tournament he had little impact on the court as his Squad lost in the first round but to be fair to ammani he

Enrolled at Memphis so late that he missed preseason workouts and was not ready physically being the youngest player in college basketball it’s extremely tough to come into college basketball at just 17 years old and dominate but with the immense hype that came to ammani Bates everyone expected

Him to have at least played better than he did his underwhelming freshman year caused his draft stock to take a pretty noticeable hit but luckily due to amman’s reclass he had to play 2 years of college basketball making him ineligible for the 2022 NBA draft which

Meant of course he had another year in college to find his footing but in what came as a surprising move a ammani chose to transfer to Eastern Michigan University a school in his hometown when asked about joining Eastern Michigan he said I love my city and coming home to

Do something special was significant for me but the thing was fans expressed concerns about his decision to return to his old neighborhood fearing potential negative influences unfortunately those worries were quickly Justified when an incident took place in September of 2022 while driving around in a borrowed car in his neighborhood Amman was pulled

Over by the police during the search a weapon was uncovered by police in the backseat of his car and the police claimed that the car smelt like wheat to which Amman admitted himself that he had just been involved in smoking Bates was charged with two felonies and sentenced

To 18 months of probation his response he said I hold myself accountable for making a poor decision and hope you can forgive me as I grow because this will not be my last Miss mistake the crazy thing about living your life on stage is the inability to escape judgment and

Experience The Growing Pains of Life as a normal adolescent privately however this was not the first time the former five-star recruit had discussed the impact of living in the spotlight being labeled as the next Kevin Durant and gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated at 15 had a significant effect on amman’s mental

Well-being being on the cover which Amman thought was fun at first first quickly spiraled into a swarm of people looking to take advantage of him and it’s a lot to handle for young guys when everything they do comes under the public eye hey that’s what makes guys like Victor wanyama so impressive some

Can handle that force field of constant pressure and others well can’t for ammani everywhere he went everything he did was highly monitored and talked about online the things people say definitely affect me people don’t don’t really know me if people knew who I really was I

Don’t think they’d be saying some of the things they say there were times when ammani seriously considered quitting basketball altogether and leaving the spotlight having these high expectations as a kid forces you to be nothing short of perfect Amman was ready to become the hometown hero he had dreamed of becoming

And represented his hometown School in Eastern Michigan at Eastern Michigan ammani showed flashes of how great of a scorer he was ammani and improved his average to 19 points per game while shooting 44% from the field ammani appeared much more comfortable at Eastern Michigan even having one groundbreaking game when he dropped 43

Points including 29 consecutive points for his team in the first half despite his Revival and success at Eastern Michigan Amman did not Garner significant intention from NBA draft boards for several reasons starting with his off-the court incident involving the gun that put a certain label on him one

Scout said nobody’s going to put up with johnar issues unless you are a special player the arrest undoubtedly stained his reputation but apart from that big setback were concerns raised about his play style characterized by poor shot selection and lackluster defense in college he allowed an average of 88

Points per defensive possession the worst among all NBA prospects another anonymous Scout put it harshly saying he’s not even on our board just too much of a circus he has a scorer mentality but bad shot selection he’s one of those athletic looking guys that’s not really athletic he has no interest in playing

Defense or utilizing his other abilities he needs to learn how to play with other good players the other thing is despite being 69 Amman lacked the athleticism expected of a wing player his wingspan measured in at just 67 raising concerns about potential limitations due to his friend

Nevertheless this story does take a turn for the better as ammani Bates was selected with the 49th pick in the 2023 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers a move that came as a shock for a lot of people and to give credit to ammani he came out unfaced on the next stage

Making his Mark any way he could in the next chapter of his basketball career in the 2023 NBA Summer League ammani averaged over 17 points per game and scored in double figures in every game amanii helped the Cavs win the summer league championship and was named to the all-star summer league second team

Averaging 17.2 points on 43.9% shooting and 40% from three over six games he also averaged nearly 30 minutes per game in the 40-minute contests averaged six rebounds per game and shot 100% on his 13 free throw attempts amoney had already signed a two-way contract with

With the Cavs in early July but he was expected to play in the g-league for the entire 2023 2024 season but with how well he fared in the Summer League games this made way for him to potentially get an opportunity to suit up for the Cavs alongside Stars Darius Garland and

Dunavan Mitchell and that opportunity presented itself on October 28th Amani’s first NBA points came on the Cap’s fourth game of the season on National Television versus the New York Knicks Thro most of the Season Amman has been playing in the G League where he’s been very impressive averaging close to 25

Points per game and shooting over 40% from three while he hasn’t turned into the basketball sensation he was labeled as so early into his basketball days Amman is just looking ahead to what the future holds for him by playing at an elite level in the g-league the door for

Amman will remain open if he can continue to hone his skill set especially on the defensive end I was ranked number one in in the country starting in sixth grade all the way up to my senior year in high school it was a lot at times but for me it was just

All about getting better each and every year and obviously the opinions and narratives changed from that time this kid is still just 20 years old and there still is a superstar somewhere inside him that can showcase itself if he works hard enough at it drop your opinions on

Ammani Bates down below do you think he can regain his Superstar self and showcase him self on an NBA stage consistently or is he just another victim of the basketball media hyping up a child prodigy too early

  1. Hoop Dungeon im not sure if youre gonna see this but you were at 1.99k subscriber and i subscribe and i became youre 2000 subscribers congrats on a huge acccomplishments

  2. This was a really fair video on the kid. I don't think he'll be a superstar (he' just not athletic enough and is missing a lot of intangibles) but he could be an elite 6th man who could come into a game and just get buckets and help a team win if he can just be a decent defensive player.

  3. Emoni learns how to facilitate a bit, play a bit of defense and watch who he hangs with he'll be fine. Cavs will bring emoni up next year. He needed to grow and develop in the g league. Still has some work to do but he'll get there.

  4. the slander on individuals we don't know anything about, every player isnt just gonna be superstars when they already HAVE superstars on the team. like this isnt 2k guys

  5. Donā€™t even trip Cleveland got this man šŸ’Æ watch him take over in the next yearsā€¦
Already won the summer league titleā€¦
NBA title for Cleveland coming soon

  6. No. It's unlikely he'll hit those "generational" heights most thought he would but I believe he could turn into an above average NBA player if he gets better at team aspects of the game and continues to work on his body.

  7. All he can do is shoot and nothing else, literally. For someone who's been playing since early childhood, his IQ and court awareness is horrible. Will not last in the league

  8. When E-Moni gets elevated to the starting lineup of the Cavs (and he will), we will become a perennial finals team once again…

  9. Wasn't his car, wasn't his weapon. Only thing he is guilty of is the traffic infraction, which was minor. However, there's no way my Cavs would've sniffed drafting him in the 2nd round without the setback so, it is what it is…

  10. If Emoni can keep up the knack for scoring and getting a bit better on defense, he could provide something nice for the Cavs next season, especially with his size. His shooting and height added to the Cavs would be insane given what theyā€™re doing right now
