Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau comments on 125-111 loss to Pacers | SNY

You know like that for a first game there was some obviously really good things and obviously there are there’s a lot for them to adjust to so and you know as a team, I think we have to do a lot better. We’re short-handed. So

We’re going to have to play a lot harder than a lot tougher. We don’t have to count on our defense and our rebounding and it’s one of the few times we’ve been outrebounded all year. So we got to fix that and we Fix it fast. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, we what we have to gang rebound. So we’re not gonna be able to rely on, you know, one or two guys and then we have to put our bodies on people and then we have to go fight for the ball. So we’re small not

I’m you know disappointed in the result, but I’m not disappointed in our team. You know that we’ve fought all year. We’ve responded to every challenge. So I think we’re capable of doing a lot better and I think we will fire from God’s understanding offensive sets. Or

The defensive coverage is when they well little bit of both because it’s you know, what you’re what you’re counting on right now is your hustle you hustle can make up for my mistakes. So and there’s going to be a period of adjustment there

Always is but we don’t have to be perfect. But if we’re playing real hard we can cover up for those things and then our communication could be better but our defense and our rebounding that’s a big key and that we have to be able to count on that. Three nights and I’m fine

With you know, if we miss your shot or you know, there’s going to be nights. We shoot a great some nights. We won’t shoot it as well. But the defense and rebounding we had to be able to count on that. We have to be able to keep our turnovers down

In the first half Parks kind of most of his stuff in the second half. Yeah, they’re still finding their way. There’s going to be a little bit of an adjustment but I like the way, you know, the things that they bring to our team, so we’re capable of

Rebounding the ball a lot better and I just told them same thing with all our players and when you’re small you we have to make sure we’re putting our bodies on people then we got to go fight for the ball we have to do it collectively. So I think

Everyone’s capable of doing that I think with Alec and boullion and they both are they’re smart and they’re tough and though get better with each day and each game. So but in the meantime, we got to scratch our winch TJ McConnell,

He’s got a problem. He’d been a problem. So we got we ought to take a look at the film but we got to fix that. They’re you know, they’re they’re point guards got into paint McConnell came in and you know, and again

His talent is his great energy, but he’s a hell of a basketball player and he does everything. Sorry. I’m sorry. Tonight withstanding how much of the success you guys have had do you think is due to the defense through that in the fact that it seems like

You guys maybe more than most teams in the league know who you are identity with. Yeah. I think it’s a big key, even you know at the end like we have to be consistent. Our margin of error is small right now. So we have to play extremely hard tough smart

And even at the end we were probably possession or two away from having a chance. There’s the Thing that I love about our team is there’s no quit in US they’ll continue to fight some nights. It’s not as good as we would like. But

For the most part this team gives you everything they have every single game. I just deal with reality. This is what we have and I believe we can win with what we have. So that’s all I think about is getting there and get it done. So there’s no there’s no moral

Victories. There’s just like, let’s get out there and get it done. If you’re here and you’re on this roster, that means you’re a hell of a player and we can win.

In this Knicks post game news conference, head coach Tom Thibodeau was not satisfied with the rebounding effort of his team in their 125-111 loss to the Indiana Pacers. Thibodeau: “We have to put our bodies on people, we need to fight for the ball.” Thibodeau would not make excuses for his short-handed team saying, “I deal with reality. I believe we can win with what we have. Get in there and get it done. If you’re here, you’re on this roster, you’re a hell of a player and we can win.” The coach did find positives in the play of new acquisitions Alec Burks and Bojan Bogdanovic adding, “with Alec and Bojan, they’re both smart and tough and they will get better with each day.”

  1. The injury bug is on us big time! I liked Taj Gibson in the past but he is beyond old & slow now. He isn't even rebounding.

  2. Thibs your team have hit the wall playing short handed. Seriously cutting Mcbrides minutes did not help. Looking forward to everyone getting healthy down the stretch.

  3. This guy is gonna drive this team into the ground like he does EVERY TEAM. He plays Brunson 38 minutes, coming off an ankle injury, to try to win a lousy regular season game

  4. I love Taj, but he can’t play NBA basketball anymore. Tonight was the proof. Thibs is saying what he has to, but he knows he needs his studs back.

  5. The Pacrs are not the team you want to play on a night like this their bench is very strong (TJ put up 18)

  6. Well,…knicks practically trade for ofense, but let go defense…those two guys dont defend, and Taj is slower, older not helping the cause.

  7. Time to put Taj on the bench behind the bench, he looks cooked. Go find a young big out the g league and give them an opportunity to get NBA minutes.

  8. Any team dealing with as many injuries as the Knicks will struggle. The good news is the Knicks have intelligent players who know how to win games, which they will do. I think the Knicks will weather this storm and be stronger come playoff time.

  9. I love the mentality from Thibs here: no excuses or moral victories. It’s the opposite of what someone like Robert Saleh preaches. Hopefully he moves away from playing Taj and players can start getting healthier!

  10. If the Knicks, and I’m mainly talking Thibs here, continues to play 8 players against the other teams 10 players, then that’s a recipe for disaster and possibly more injuries!!!

I mean, Taj had zero points and 3 rebounds in 18 minutes, and despite Thibs seeing that Gibson didn’t have it against the younger more athletic Pacer players, he chose to not play the younger more energetic Jacob Toppin. Toppin could have given us more than that.

Then again, Thibs prefers veterans to younger players. Come on man!!
