Doc Rivers after loss: ‘I thought we played just awful offense’

Doc Rivers after loss: ‘I thought we played just awful offense’

Right just the the Heats Pace activity Pace activity and just running around just speed Pace um faster they were quicker on everything on both ends you know um you have these Knights you hate them but it is what it is I I I thought as bad as it looked defensively I

Thought our offense was way worse tonight I thought it started early we were shooting 51% at halftime and I thought we were playing just awful offense um and I thought that that harded our defense you know ball didn’t move a lot tonight uh not the way it’s

Been moving and I think right now with our team is it we get our personality from the offensive end and we don’t want that we want to get our personality from the defense from playing hard and doing defensive things tonight you can just see it everyone was trying to force the

Ball and give Miami credit that the one thing you can’t do against them is hold the ball and dance with the ball they’re a great load up team I mean and and did that sort of help create some of those turnovers as well because it seemed like

Whenever there was a a giveaway or excuse me a loss ball they converted then yeah yeah floor balance you know tough shots know it’s funny they turn the ball over 14 times we had 14 points we we only have four more turnovers but they had 35 points so that’s the

Difference in the game um just speaking to that offense um I think you get you cut have did nine in the third quarter and Score Four Points four turnovers in a row um and the first half as well yeah we did it in the first half we cut every

Time we cut it to nine either a bad turnover or three that they hit um they move without the ball they share the ball that’s how they play we didn’t handle that very well so we’ll fix that um yic I think starts the game four four

From three I know we talked a little bit last night about maybe having Giannis real a little bit is that something that they were able to take advantage of yeah he was guarding him but we you know we just didn’t get up on him enough um you

You know listen he made shots and that’s what he does uh another young guy that knows how to play um speaking about chasing guys around those dribble handoffs just what do you see from your your effort on that it’s funny just watching the difference like we got 10

Blown up dribble hand what we tried to do and they blew them up on ours we were late on every single one of them it felt like and you know we W Brooke as an example in a drop but if you’re in a drop and our guards are behind late then

You’re in trouble and I thought that happened over over and over even in the pick and row same thing it’s the first night that I didn’t think we were into the ball like we’ve been in I thought we backed up tonight uh we reverted back tonight defensively that happens coach

Going back to the offense and talking about the ball not moving enough I guess why can it be so difficult to get out of that rut in the middle of a game well the first thing you know you have to get a stops you know if you’re taking the

Ball out every single time I mean I don’t know what they end up shooting they were shooting 57 at halftime time right 58 or something so you’re not getting a lot of transition you’re not getting the ball out and running everything was half court and and we got

Stuck in the muck in half court we never slowed them down offensively to ever have anything um on our end you know I think that’s part of it uh I think four free throws between Dame and jannis combined they’ve been League leaders in that what do you see tonight with same

Thing um you know didn’t go against the Heat one of the keys is getting in the paint um we got to the edge of the paint we never got it to the basket we never got to the paint and pass you know so I thought that was a lot of it yeah thank

You thank you guys you know they just it was a lot of off the ball movement you know I think um you know the the initial action they had a lot of actions where um they had a smaller guy in a dunker and they were rolling bam down the middle because they

Kind of was positioning our smaller guys to be the guy to lift up against him and you know we just kept coming in because we knew that we was out you know outmatched uh with the size and then they was just spraying the ball around uh but I think it was just the

Movement you know they just dunan Robinson hero they was just kind of running around a lot off the ball see a couple go in um and our offense didn’t really help our defense you know we was in a lot of scramble situations where they you know we was behind the play and

They shot the ball well and um sometimes just like that but I thought it was um some things that we could have done better to you know maybe disrupt their offense a little bit but they got going and um in the third we kind of cut into

That lead they caught a timeout and then they just kind of built it back up I say I think you guys get it to 10 with two minutes left in the second quarter and then get it to nine in the middle of the third quarter and then I think score

Don’t go 15 to four run after that yeah yeah um so both of those situations just what did you kind of see offensively that you guys weren’t able to score um I think it was turnovers um you know I think we struggled a little bit where

The last couple games has been a huge emphasis on just sharing the ball you know not letting the ball stick too much uh making the extra pass you know where you might have a good look but it could be one more uh to a great shot and I

Think tonight we uh we took a step back from that you know we didn’t we didn’t play that same way and usually when things aren’t going well you know on a good team when you have good players you try to take it upon yourself and maybe

Instead of making that pass you you feel like you going to knock the shot down but I think we just had too many of those moments and um you know when it didn’t work out for us it just kind of poured into what they were already doing

And they was able to pull off on us a couple times uh Dame in the Huddle doc was emphasizing just you guys getting your defensive energy up how do you do that in the middle of the game um that where they are playing Pretty physically um

And I I know that you guys know it but how do do you collectively do that where you’re like okay we’re hearing that we’re exhibiting more energy on offense now how do we as a collective put the same emphasis on defense uh I think it’s uh just a mentality you know when he’s

Challenging us like that in the Huddle it’s um the type of mentality that you go back on the court with um you can do that with communication you know you can talk yourself into a game talk yourself into being in the right spots um but

That was really it you know I thought uh on top of us not communicating as as loud and as often as we should have and could have um I thought we allowed our offense to kind of carry over to the defensive end of the floor you know when

Shots weren’t falling we weren’t we didn’t have as much urgency we weren’t as physical um certain things that we knew they they wanted to do and that they did well we didn’t take away and um you know that was just how the game [Applause] went

  1. Out wittede, out smarted the great Miami heat❤❤❤❤❤, Miami princess.Doc knows how great the heat can be.❤❤❤

  2. Push the Pace, depending way too much on the half court offense and overall team paint scoring, you have multiple 15 ppg scorers, get them more touches, shoot more baskets and put more rebounders out on the floor for extra attempts, our game is just way too predictable, not enough pick n roll, mostly pick n stop

  3. I'm a big time fan of the,,The Bucks from the 70 the Bucks superstar need to work on defense,,, Defense win games if u want to win championships!!!😮

  4. Spo wasn’t losing this game after Boston swept them in the season series. There defense is elite no matter who is playing. They can shoot too.

  5. It was both. First two posession with Dame taking long distance shot and both are contested three and two. Dame making 5 out 14 shots oh well he misses a lot of shots and more than what Giannis is taking. At least they could have retained grayson allen at the two spot. Malik should be coming off the bench now since he is too small and too light. You dont need him to start since you got Giannis and Dame and hopefully kris to score. Plus he is not firin many threes like duncan robinson

  6. Nobody should blame Doc for this lose.. Those players look very awful.. Trade Bobby, Pat, and Lilliard need to step up his game…

  7. Playing against Miami is a great experience for this team… playing against Spo's team gives you an excellent lesson on how to play against teams that depend on good basketball and not talent (like Boston does for example which is why Boston always fails in the playoffs, they play dumb iso basketball)… the good thing is that Doc is a great coach and he will show them a very detailed video identifying all the mistakes… cause even with how bad the Bucks played the Heat had to hit some ridiculous shots to keep the difference high… they were shooting over 50% from 3 up to the 3rd quarter in a league that the average 3pt shooter shoots 37-38%… that's 12% above average… so the Bucks have so much more talent than the Heat and if they manage to absorb what Doc is trying to teach them (playing good TEAM BASKETBALL and not relying on individual talent) the Bucks can be much better than the Heat when the real games come around (playoffs)

Now don't get me wrong… if the Heat are the 8th seed for example it wouldn't surprise me AT ALL if they beat Boston in round one… seriously… this Heat team can beat ANYONE and don't give a shit if they're the 7th seed or the 8th seed or whatever… cause they play INCREDIBLE fundamental team basketball with one of the least talented rosters in the league… their best player is probably Adebayo… Adebayo is not even a top 15 player in the league in terms of talent… second best is Herro and he's pretty much something like a Malik Monk… he's not a star… and yes, there's Jimmy and Jimmy could turn to Jordan's son again the playoffs but this year he's been out almost all year long… don't know in what condition he'll be…

I'm a huge fan of Spo's work cause I've never seen him produce a bad basketball team… ever… his teams play about 50-60% better than their talent level every year… which is just jaw-dropping… Spo is a genius and the best coach in the league right now by a mile…
