I feel like we need to give Brice the THT minutes and see what he can do

  2. Early in the year we were 7-16 and I told people we would improve and possibly make the play in, and I got a lot of flak for it, understandably I didn’t realize we’d sell again..

But I’m gonna double down. We will be fine unless they start having phantom injuries, I hate how we got reffed out of this one though.

Edit: I want to add, not a great game on either end but some things to take into account, Rui was making TOUGH shots especially on Kessler, and momentum is an underrated factor in games, when the officials rob you of momentum it’s hard to win.

The last thing is, I believe in Markkanen, and if he bounces back so will we

On paper, competitive game. Until you look at the free throws.

This season is a wrap folks. Jazz are focusing on that lottery pick. Then of course they will need to be huge buyers in the off-season to retain Lauri at this point. And then we will convey a much weaker late FRP.

This is the most painful part, but it’ll get better.

  6. We’re going to win a few more before the season is over, but with that defense it won’t be very many

  7. Bleh. The team has thrown in the towel mentally. I’m tempted to just skip the rest of the season. Because it seems like they’re just going through motions.

Jazz had a terrible second half, but how could you not when you realize the outcome was decided before the game started?

Pre garbage time it was 23-5 in fts and 20-6 in fouls. That wasn’t a fairly fought game there is legit nothing to take away other than Hendricks had some cool shots and Lauri had a tough shooting game.

    GAME NOTES:

AD & Rui Hachimura absolutely ate us alive. John Collins did not do a good job defensively, rarely putting a hand up on the Rui jumpers.

However, our first quarter was dominated by good guard play. Keyonte George had an 8 point first quarter, and Kris Dunn immediately came in and picked up where Keyonte ended. Those two had an electric first quarter. The second quarter was dominated by Jordan Clarkson, who scored 13 points, and helped us to get the lead for a moment. After that, we quickly fell apart in the third and fourth quarters.

Our best offensive player was probably Clarkson. A decent shooting night, 6-12 shooting, 3-7 from 3, 2-2 from the line, 1 rebound, 5 assists, but 3 turnovers. He had a decent amount of assists just off of dribble penetration dump-downs to Collins or Kessler. Clarkson did an overall good job on shot making, and hit some tough floaters [like this one](https://x.com/NBA_Philippines/status/1757971309135552751?s=20). Those scoop layups were pretty effective tonight.

Keyonte George had himself one of his better games of his young career. Starting in the first half, he had 8 points, 6 assists, and 2 steals. But, I felt like he was having us play with solid pace, and pushing the tempo. He did a good job of getting everybody involved. He finished with 13 points on 5-8 shooting, 3-5 from 3, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 2 turnovers. He was the only Jazz player with a + +/-, finishing with +1 in 30 minutes.

Lauri Markkanen was really disrupted by AD. I really want to see him take a big step and be able to get 20-25 a night no matter who is guarding him, but I think he is heavily limited by his lack of ability to create for himself. He still finished with 16 points on 6-14 shooting, 2-6 from 3, 2-2 from the line, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and 2 turnovers. His defense was abysmal today, really not doing much to disrupt AD or Hachimura. I will say he has been quick on his decision making, which is good to see. He hit [this shot in the third](https://x.com/UtahJazzClips/status/1757963819865788734?s=20) that showcases his quick decision to pull a jumper in the lane. The last few games however have been rough for Lauri, hopefully he’s able to bounce back and adjust against GS our next game.

Collin Sexton had a really quiet first half, but a pretty solid third quarter. He finished with 18 points on 8-15 shooting, 2-5 from 3, 2 assists, and 2 blocks surprisingly. His ability to [push in transition](https://x.com/UtahJazzClips/status/1757969212855779484?s=20) is such a great skill, I wish that we were always able to play with that sort of pace. He thrives in transition and the open floor. Decent night for Collin, just took a while to get started.

Collins & Kessler started together, and it did more harm than good. They really need to learn to play with each other, or Hardy has to make a lineup change. [They did have a solid moment showcased here](https://x.com/UtahJazzClips/status/1757969951673999547?s=20), but that’s about it.

Collins had 11 points on 5-10 shooting, 0-3 from 3, 1-3 from the line, 10 rebounds (3 offensive), 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 4 fouls in 28 minutes. His rebounding has been great, no matter who he is on the floor with which is a good positive, but man Collins struggled tonight defensively. It was a huge black mark on his game.

Kessler wasn’t much better. Sure, he had 3 blocks, but he was no locking down the paint. 8 points, 4-11 shooting, 6 rebounds (4 offensive), 2 turnovers, 4 fouls. He had foul trouble in the first half, but he has to get more consistent defensively. He does good on [help defense](https://x.com/utahjazz/status/1757969912356811240?s=20), but struggles if there’s backcuts. It kind of reminds me of young Rudy. The promise is there, just need to sharpen up.

Taylor Hendricks played 14 minutes, and had 7 points on 3-8 shooting, 1-6 from 3 (woof), 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. His length on those rebounds is impressive, he rose above everybody to get a few of them. His 3 point jumper just looks whack. I don’t know if he’s changing his form or what, but it doesn’t look too pretty. [You can take a look at it here](https://x.com/JazzLead/status/1757962205994373278?s=20), and I could just be tripping. But it doesn’t look like a pretty jumper.

Kirs Dunn, as I said above, had a stellar first half, and a solid game overall. He needs to be playing more. 17 minutes tonight. I know we are undermanned at the G slots, but he really needs to take THT’s minutes. 5-6 shooting, 1-2 from 3, 1-1 from the line, 12 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 1 steal, 3 fouls.

THT. Our offensive goes to crap when he’s in the game. It’s torture. 2-5 shooting, 1-4 from 3, 2-2 from the line, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 turnover, 7 points, -10 in 16 minutes. His assists were nice, and he found the open guy using his driving gravity, but damn those 3 point jumpers are the bane of my existence. Blechk. If we truly aren’t trying to make the play-in, I’m all for giving Brice THT’s minutes to see what the kid can do. He isn’t strictly playing a G slot, which has to be tough for him as he’s naturally a 1-2 guy, but it just feels like he isn’t playing in the system. I’d rather have Dunn, Brice, Hendricks, Luka, or Otto Porter try to supplement those minutes.

Overall not the prettiest night. That third quarter wrecked us, we were in the game up until then. We did a poor job of getting to the free throw line, only shooting 10 FTA to LAL 24. We shot just 33% from 3, and 49% from the field, contrasted to LAL 46% from 3 and 57% from the field. 60 points in the paint compared to our 52. We just weren’t contesting them well enough. We had 12 turnovers to LAL’s 8, and just 25 assists on 44 made shots, whereas LA had 30 assists on 47 made shots. We did outrebound them, 37 to 34, and we killed them on the OREB’s, 12-5. We just need to contest their shots.

Hardy’s trying to do what he can with the team we have, bless his soul. I’m sure we will start clicking more after the all star break, but the defense looks terrible. Lots of miscommunication, and lazy effort.

    26-29.

Keyonte and Dunn played great. Sexton has quietly become a steady player after being super up and down to start the year. Hendricks is definitely a work in progress but is showing some impressive flashes. Most importantly, the young guys are getting lots of minutes to develop — Keyonte tied Lauri for the most minutes played tonight.

I’m gonna try to focus on positives in these PGTs from here on out this season. These are the growing pains of a rebuild, but they don’t have to be *that* miserable.

  13. Denotsyek

How can this sub have post after post about rebuilding and to be patient and then every post game thread that is a loss the sky is falling again.

  14. BaylifeFore

I think I’m just gonna skip the games against Lakers from now on. No point watching these, must be insanely hard for the players. Can’t touch em on the defensive end and get zero calls on the offensive end. And it has been so obvious how the refs have intervened and disrupted the flow of the game when Jazz are rolling in so many games.

  15. ChameleonWins

we’re not making the playoffs and i think i’m good not watching games for a while. Peace out

  16. reversefont

In Life, it’s impossible to win a game that’s rigged against you.

Nothing you can do as a Jazz player or a fan.

  17. At least the Jazz got fucked tonight on V’s day, thank you refs and Lakers for a good time. Honorable mentions to Danny Ainge for fleecing our roster.. again. But hey let’s all sign up for Jazz + and support Ryan Smith cause he can’t do any wrong especially when he wants to move the Jazz from downtown. I think that’s the ultimate reason why the Jazz blew it up a year ago and why they continue to just muff the entire situation.

  18. universalLopes

We are trash, but have no time to be the most trash of the league 😁

  19. brig_pudding

Hardy is just throwing random combinations together. But here’s an idea… instead of playing 3 ball dominant no defense guards together with Collins at the 5 let’s play some guys who are active defensively (Dunn, Hendricks, Kessler).

  20. LevelMeaning8260

Are we now the “Nets” of the west? A marquee player that is not a primary creator but is everything else you’d want (Bridges and Lauri), one way ball stopping guards, and defenders that are limited offensively?

  21. coolguysteve21

In the end we have one semi all star, a rising huge defensive threat, 2 decent rookies, and a whole lot of journeyman basketball players.

I don’t know how you win with this team.

I wish we decided to make these trades before the hope was brought in, but I don’t know the behind the scenes stuff. So embracing the tank yet again.

  22. lumpyfred

After the trade deadline + THT resuming heavy minutes it’s obvious we’re going back to full tank mode. But if that’s the case I wish we could’ve traded Lauri somewhere he could thrive.

I can handle the tank, I can’t handle watching Lauri being done like this

  23. LevelMeaning8260

If we finish the season going something like 8-20 for a record of 34-48, and Lauri has one season left on his contract on a team with at this stage only really Kessler as a solidified core piece would he even extend?

I AM ONCE AGAIN ASKING FOR KRIS DUNN TO BE FREED
