  1. He was gonna go to Brooklyn. This is just retrospective thinking bc the Nets stink.

  2. JA_MD_311

Nope, nope, nope. Not going to let him paint this revisionist history. Brooklyn was lurking and traded for Deron Williams at the same time. Walsh was willing to wait him out and Dolan intervened. Melo wanted the bag and he didn’t want to have to wait for the offseason for it.

He wanted the trade and made life miserable for Denver. So much so that Gallinari, Felton, Chandler, and Mozgov got a standing ovation the second they walked into Denver’s arena. He knows in hindsight he screwed up because the Knicks would’ve traded those guys to get Chris Paul. A CP3 & Melo team probably weren’t going to take down LeBron, but they would’ve gotten a lot farther than they did.

Dude wants to be loved so badly by the Nuggets and Knick fan base but doesnā€™t want to take any responsibility for how he alienated the Nuggets fans and never evolved his game passed being an elite iso scorer and above average rebounder.

Heā€™s seeing jokic and brunson ball out and become beloved and has some little brother complex about it.

  4. zOmgFishes

TBF he didn’t personally call Dolan to make the trade happen. Denver also had other deals on the table. So while Melo can say he was gona come to NY as a FA, it doesn’t mean that was what would have happened.

I mean thereā€™s some truth to this. He was pushing hard for the trade and Iā€™m 60% sure he wouldā€™ve signed elsewhere in the offseason, but he was very patient in his first couple years, the phil era, etc. until he was traded

  6. No way, he wanted to get paid the max AND leave Denver. He forced his way out and the Knicks should have called his bluff. Instead, they traded away their roster and had nothing left to surround him with.

  7. ChiefHunter1

He wanted to get his bag so he needed to be traded. Idk why he even bothers answering questions like this. That era is behind us and heā€™s generally well regarded here despite his flaws

Love Melo but this is cap… he showed interest in signing with Brooklyn

  9. FrankNtilikinaOcean

Melo trying to lose fans with this bullshit lmao

  10. HardOakleyFoul

He got his money, we wanted a championship. Never got close to one. “Well it’s the front offices job to build a winner around Melo”, riiiiight, after we gave up all of our best assets to get him and his contract was eating up like 40% of our cap space. Donnie was willing to call his bluff and I’m sure he would have won that bet, but Dolan.

  11. … and there it goes, whatever leftover respect the fans had for Melo šŸ’Ø šŸŖŸ

  12. Forward_Ride_6364

Nah, this brother cappin his ass off

Sorry godbody, you gotta learn how to lie better… you destroyed the roster and assets we had built just to secure the bag here before the summer even began

Realistically pissed away a championship or two during your time here because our roster was paper thin afterward

    Fuck off

  13. Saucy_Totchie

10000000% cap lol. Getting the trade done meant that he would have been able to re-sign for more than if he signed as a FA.

  14. MyLadySansa

Thatā€™s bullshit. He was always about securing the bag. He would not have waited. He actually said in a past interview that he thought he was headed to the Nets.
