Shorthanded Knicks Fall To Magic In Final Game Before All-Star Break | New York Knicks

Let the record show this is the Knick’s first four game losing streak of the season but Allan that deserves an asterisk about the size of the ones you see in the words Mash unit yeah right I mean you look at what Mike Breen just said there at the end of the broadcast

Rings true it’s like the All-Star break couldn’t come at a better time it’s very important for this team to get healthy you could see it Jaylen Brunson the only starter who played in this game it showed offensively when he went to the bench the Knicks had nothing and that

Game turned fast and reality set in pretty quickly here and and now you got to regroup get rested get guys healthy you got to reassess Julius randle’s shoulder reassess oan noi’s elbow see where they’re at and hope that they come back sooner rather than later while all

That that is going on over the next seven eight days Jaylen Brunson will head to Indianapolis to participate in his first All-Star game that takes place on Sunday and he showed why especially in the first quarter tonight 12 points in the first six minutes and after one

Quarter he was a quarter of the way to 80 on the night right and it was a question that a friend of mine asked me he like what is the Knick’s scoring record on the road we know it’s 62 at the Garden what’s it on the road he

Might have to get it and so I looked it up and maybe I jinxed it who knows but still he had an outstanding start to this game and you know what John in today’s NBA as we watch him here just do the dazzling things that we have seen

Him do all this season with the footwork the ability to shoot and everything else I don’t need to explain it to you but John in an NBA where players can take a night off for rest for various reasons there are all stars who aren’t playing tonight because I’m going into the

All-Star break don’t have to play tonight I’m going to rest Jaylen Brunson had every reason to accept a DMP tonight but he played he played because that’s what he does and he did all he could to keep the Knicks in it in fact the Knicks

Had a lead until he came out of the game and that is the biggest difference he steps out of the game the Knicks are a different team 35 minutes tonight 33 points a great performance and that 33 points marks the 22nd time this year in 52 games that Jaylen Brunson has reached

Or eclipsed the 30-point mark As we said uh Nicks made it a 12-point lead early in the second quarter but then guess what the magic ran off a 17-point run and it was never the same it really is hard to believe until you watch it happen that it really went 17 straight

Points without the Knicks scoring and it was a lot that was in the paint as you see right here Taj Gibson doing all he can but you’re seeing how Taj is really just trying to get himself back into NBA conditioning Joe I I thought Engles actually played great for them they

Didn’t have a lot of good offense in the first quarter he came in became a playmaker for them look at this little play little two-man game and again they’re just attacking there’s no shot blocking and there’s really no Rim presence Wally said it on the post game

And he’s so right there wasn’t a lot of scoring for the Knicks on the floor when Jaylen Brunson comes out but the resistance part this is just too easy and I agree with him the Knicks took a lead and they felt good and they did not

Keep the edge they needed or Lando kept firing and all of a sudden what felt like a Knicks were going a really good effort by the Knicks turned into an ugly loss for the Knicks yeah and you you figure that the Orlando Magic in that second quarter made 15 of 18 shots they

Missed only nine shots in the entire first half let’s go back to Orlando we welcome in Wally zerak part of the broadcast team tonight here with Mike Breen on MSG Wally in the pregame you said protect the paint and the number we saw in that graphic there was very

Important to tonight 60- 40 points in the paint in favor of Orlando yeah and it was that second quarter run where it was just pick and roll dunk couple dribbles dunk there was no resistance at the paint and the Orlando Magic was shooting 70% almost throughout the whole entire first half

When Jaylen Brunson was out on the floor when the starters were out on the floor if they could have played 48 minutes the Knicks starting unit the Knicks could have won this basketball game the problem was when Jaylen Brunson went out of the game the bench which which just

Got absolutely Smoked by this Orlando Magic bench which is always a big strength of this team it was a valiant effort by jayen Brunson and precious aoua but the break could not come quick enough this team needs this rest yeah 42 by the way 42 to 19 was the bench

Scoring in this game and I know there was some extension garbar time uh 20 of the Third 20 points in the paint by the way out of the 38 points score in that second quarter Wally and also you know the B Carol three-point show that he put

On as well but I you mentioned AA and and you were saying during the broadcast that okay so this game is what it is but these are still valuable minutes for some players to get into Rhythm to also show what they can do when pressed into bigger roles I guess that pretty much

Explains a chua’s performance tonight doesn’t it it was outstanding he’s been outstanding with every minute and opportunity he’s gotten he has a lot of game the way he finishes with his left hand the way he attacks the offensive glass he had a really tough match up tonight in Pao banero and

When poo banero is making threes off the dribble coming off screen and rolls he’s pretty much unguardable I mean that guy’s got great handle for a guy his size I thought precious atua could keep up with him with his athleticism and his ability to move his feet but Palo banaro

Is just an Allstar you know caliber quality he’s going to the all-star game you can see why he’s going to the all-star game but when precious atua continues to play like this this is how you earn the trust of your coach Tom tiido is trying to figure out as this

Season moves along as he gets all of his healthier bodies back in the lineup who he can trust in what roles in big games in playoff type games in games down the stretch of this season that are very meaningful for playoff seating and the way precious atua has been playing has

Been absolutely outstanding yeah you didn’t realize what you were getting when you got him in that anobi trade I joked with him should we keep calling it the ogan anobi trade he go oh yeah definitely definitely call it that but still a nice piece that you’re able to

Get in there all right so the heat ended up beating the Sixers tonight Wally so the Knicks go into the break still holding fourth place in the East still hanging on to that part of it they play the Sixers coming out of the break how much are we scoreboard watching from

Here on in and what do players do during this All-Star break to get themselves ready for the last 27 games just get some sleep get some rest you know you got to do something as far as cardio just to keep a little bit of wind you don’t want to take a whole

Entire week off you want to get on a bike get on a treadmill do something just to keep yourself at least ready to go but the most important thing for this New York Knicks team is to get healthy scoreboard watching you cannot worry about that this team is good enough to

Compete with a champion for a championship with the moves they have made it’s going to be it’s going to be hard pressed for this coaching staff to develop a rotation get everyone on the same page get everyone the chemistry together but these are veteran players

That have played a lot of minutes in the NBA so they know how to do it quickly it’s going to be important though to be healthy in order to get that chemistry together for the playoffs and Wally if I know you you’ll get plenty of sleep rest

And cardio over the next eight days as well enjoy it and golf oh I will although golf I think is out after the snowstorm it’s going to be a fun All-Star break I’m so proud of Jaylen Brunson and Julius Randall it’s going to be an outstanding time for them and

Their families and the accomplishment that those two have accomplished in the nick New York Nick uniform they put a lot of smiles on all our faces a lot of smiles on the fans faces so they deserve this time for themselves this weekend enjoy it Wally thanks bud you got it

Yeah so the Knicks now with their fourth straight loss fifth loss in the last six games and it really does tighten up the Eastern Conference as Allan said it’s getting down to that time where you’ll be looking at it on an almost daily basis Celtics running away at top the

EAS conference and then after that it gets pretty bunched up Nicks at the moment three and a half back of that second spot and now three ahead of that cut line for the playin round and the Pacers currently in seventh magic in sixth so and that team that’s above the

Cut line is the Orlando Magic as you see there the three that you’re talking about but they are now after this win three games in hand because they have beaten the Knicks three times they’ll meet again March 8th at the Garden for the last time this season that game

Looms large but you’ve already lost the head to-head when it comes to that kind of a tiebreaker so something to keep an eye on as you know the standings now this is the fun time I mean this is really what it is come back from the All-Star break and of like Wally said

He’s right everybody’s got to get healthy and you cannot Rush that process you can’t expect to come back and everybody’s back you know that for Isaiah hartstein these days are important because what he has the only remedy is rest so he’s getting that right now he’s able to get it for these

Last couple of games and he’ll get it for the break but it’s OG anobi he’ll have they’ll have to evaluate how the elbow is doing they gave that two weeks so they’ll look at him before the break or or when they get back from the break

And see how much more time he’s going to need and then of course Julius Rand he’s right in that window now the two to three weeks where they will re-evaluate the shoulder how does it feel can he start to shoot the basketball can he start to do basketball activities can he

Get himself back on the court and how soon can he return those are things you watch and what you’re hoping for is at some point in mid-march you’re getting your bodies back and then you can really start to figure out who you are with you

Know a quarter of the Season left to go so the Knicks will head into the All-Star break at 33 and 22 27 games left in the season

For the first time this season the Knicks have lost four straight games as they were defeated by the Magic 100-118. Jalen Brunson got out to a hot start with 20 points in the 1st Quater and would finsh with 33 points. With Julius Randle still out Jalen Brunson will be the Knicks representative at the NBA All-Star break.

  1. Again, this is what happens when you have too many damn injuries on the team. So, from a 9-game winning streak, to a 4-game losing streak. And without these key players, the Knicks played like garbage again. The only player who showed up was Brunson. 2nd was Achiuwa. He played well, but he's not better than Anunoby. But the rest of the team were no-shows, and only played well in the 1st quarter, and that's not enough. And Gibson looks disoriented out there. And no defense, either.

  2. Burks been a disappointment so far he better get it together before he be the odd man out but precious have been sold wasn’t expecting this from him.

  3. oof! Let's hope the Playoffs will be kind to the Knicks, injury-wise. Six key players out with injures – Robinson, Randle, Anunoby, Hartenstein, DiVincenzo, and Bogdanovic. You know it's bad when Tibbs has 2 two-way players, one with 17.5 minutes in a game before the All Star break.

At least Achiuwa is gaining recognition for his solid play and Jacob Toppin might turn into a very valuable role player in a few years.

  4. Let's get healthy and get at least some games together as a full unit then we can talk about if the last trade was good or not. Remember they were brought in to come off the bench and the rotation aint what it should be. They fighting hard but we need our defensive anchors back on the court. It's going to be fine. We all good!!!! Let's go knicks

  5. Yes we need our guys back ASP JB can create shots for these other guys he can’t be the only scorer even though he’s my MVP

  6. Our defense sucks. MAGIC players were getting to their spot all game. Driving to the basket unimpeded. Hope the all-star breaks give us the needed time to regroup

  7. I actually don't expect them to win while their unhealthy but once the key players coming back they should get some wins, the focus is to get healthy

  8. It's really tough to see the Knicks lose but they were severely undermanned. Thank god it's the all Star break we need the guys to rest.

  9. Brunson should have been sat for this game. Thibs gonna run him into the ground. I dont see Burks getting time over Deuce & Sims is sadly G-League material at best. Where are all the Randle haters now?
