Because the asking price made them realize people were willing to pay it so they probably wanted a really good team to throw them a 1st (late round pick).
My guess is nobody was willing to do that and the Bulls thought having Andre around would give them the best chance to win a game in the play-in opposed to committing to the rebuild.

not all 2nd round picks are equal, might have been a bunch of really bad ones

AKME was already in Cabo at the trade deadline. And just to be clear, “Cabo” translated in English is “competitive” AKME wanted to stay “in Cabo” at the trade deadline

I’m glad they didn’t get Drummond because Embiid didn’t seem to like it the first time he came over so why push for it again? Actually I forgot Embiid is injured rn but anyway I’m still glad we got to keep him lol

Would love to just read the transcript of a Morey and AK trade negotiation. Unstoppable Force vs. Immovable Object.

Why not trade him? Drummond is going to walk this off-season, and Bulls get nothing.

Not saying I agree with AK’s reasoning (I would’ve taken those 2nds), but the answer is obvious: to remain competitive.
Philly is sliding HARD and only 2.5 games out of the play-in. If they end up in the play-in AND Embiid remains out, they could end up being the Bulls’ ticket to make the playoffs. Sending Drummond to Philly makes Chicago worse AND helps Philly stay afloat. I don’t think AK cares if we get clapped by Boston in the 1st round, as long as this team makes the playoffs.

Not like I trust this team with drafting anyways, Ayo fell into their laps

My guess is that AK is honestly worried about getting a rep as someone who can be fleeced. The Vooch trade at the time was logic if an overpay but in hindsight looks terrible. If he traded Drummond and Bulls crater and the 6ers make a good run thanks to Drummond those picks are worthless and he looks like an idiot who gave up a good asset for way less than he could have gotten.
I honestly think that’s his issue now. He is so obsessed with not getting fleeced he is unwilling to make any moves.
