Kareem gets hert in game five I get to the airport everybody head is down cuz Kareem can’t play I said so what Kareem can’t play we still going to win then they looked at me like rookie go sit down we can’t beat Philadelphia without Kareem I said I got to do something to

Get these guys going so Kareem would always sitting in one a that was his seat so I asked a flight attendant could I go on the plane first so I went and sat in Kareem seat and as every Laker came by I said never fear magic is it so

I told the coach I’m going to play center he was like have you ever played center I said yeah I play center in high school he said man that was 2 or 3 years ago I said I’m going to play Center tomorrow against cwell Jones long story

Short you know I scored 42 points 15 rebounds seven assists we end up winning the game and it was a blessing to be named NBA Most Valuable Player of the finals

Magic Johnson remembers when he led a Kareem-less Lakers to a Championship during Game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals against Philadelphia 76ers

  1. And thats why Magic is the one who should be considered THE GOAT in regards to MJ comparison.

Magic is never even mentioned & its sad!!!

  2. Yo, they thre in the high school photo! I graduated from Everett High School in Lansing, MI. Magic Johnson was still recent history even 20 years later when I was there.

  3. Thats when the owners started fixing the games for profit.

Reason why magic got cured from AIDS.
Maybe he didnt wven have it.
    Who knows.

Magic was the first to be bought.

Reason why hes still involved in the nba today

  4. Greatest sports hero ever … Muhammad Ali … Magic Johnson … Reggie Jackson … Bo Jackson … Lebron James … Alex Rodriguez

  5. He is above Lebron, he got the Rookie of the Year and Finals MVP in one year Lebron can’t win his legitimately 4 ring in 20 years 😂

  6. I never get tired of this story. To this day, it may be the most astonishing single feat in the history of the NBA. A point guard steps in and dominates at center…in the Finals no less. Never done before, probably never will be done again.

  7. You don't have that anymore, current players whine like little bitches when you ask them to do something extra, like play 80% of the season, that's too much for them.

  8. This performance as a rookie is unbelievable. On the road in a playoff close out game without the best player in the league.

  9. Man, when you put this into perspective, a 20 year old Rookie, playing in the NBA finals, rotating from Point Guard, to Center, I don't care, that he was 6'9, he replaced an injured Kareem Abdul Jabbar who is, and was arguably, one of the greatest players of all time, and certainly, the beat center in the league during that era… Man, in my opinion, that game ranks as the GREATEST performance in NBA finals history. When you factor in his longevity, his championship runs, he's easily one of the top TEN players of all time. If they was a better finals performance than this particular game, (given the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Kareem's injury) I'd like to know who… and what game it was. This game clinched the the title for the Lakers. I truly believe, if Kareem doesn't get hurt, he's the finals MVP… assuming the Lakers win series. I absolutely LOVED Magic Johnson, even though I was a sixers fan, because I loved Dr. J as well. Loved Bird, reqlly… just loved this golden Era of basketball. In my opinion, it truly was the best.

  10. I think it’s ridiculous that Magic is not involved in the GOAT convo as much as he should be. Amazing amazing player.

  11. That game alone lets you know things….1st) magic had tge most clutch game in finals history as a rookie. 2nd) magic is the greatest PG of all time over steph, and it's not even close. 3rd) Magic was the greatest rookie whose ever played

  12. And some of you Laker fans actually believe Magic when he says " Kobe the greatest Laker". #32 will ALWAYS be the greatest to wear those colors.
