Julius Randle, Bojan Bogdanovic, and other Knicks second half questions | Begley’s Mailbag | SNY

Welcome to another edition of Begley’s mailbag where we answer your questions about the Knicks and the NBA we’re going to start off here with a question from Josh mantel sleepy J sleepy wants to know what big stars do you anticipate the Knicks going after in the off season

And I think what happens in the postseason will Factor heavily into who is available this off season when you talk about big names like does a team flame out early team that had high expectations flame out early does that cause a star to become disgruntled and

Try to figure out his way out of town that’s that’s a lot of this you know chess board when you look ahead and you see all right who’s going to be available for the Knicks regardless to be of of what happens in the postseason I’m always going to put Carl Anthony

Towns on this list this hypothetical list of stars the Knicks would be in on or go after in the off season I say that because of the ties between the organization and towns and also because the financial implications that Minnesota would be facing with all those big contracts they

Have on their books and listen obviously if the Tiber Wolves win the NBA title I don’t think they’re going to break up that roster uh because of financial reasons but you know if things happen in the postseason let’s say lose in the second round whatever it is the

Financial aspect has to be taken into account there so that’s why I’ll always put towns on that list of stars to keep an eye on and everything else whether it’s gianis San compo and Milwaukee Philadelphia Joel embid Donovan Mitchell Cleveland I think a lot of it is dependent on what happens in the

Playoffs so that’s something that you you know you keep an eye on as you figure out an answer to that question of who’s going to be available for the Knicks and who do they go after got a question here from Jason cop Jason says there a possible tibs won’t play

Bonovich in the future because of his defensive shortcomings I’m going to go out on limb here and say no that is not within the realm of possibility because the Knicks knew exactly what they were getting in William bonovich when they made the deal with Detroit so I think

All of the factors here were uh considered and put on the table where before they made that deal and and you know Tom thibo knows the player that he’s getting so I wouldn’t think that bogdanovich’s defensive shortcomings become this glaring issue to the point where tibs has to shorten his minutes or

Has to you know figure out different ways to use him I can only assume that the Knicks well aware of banovich is defensive ability and they they took that into account when they made the deal and I would assume that they’ve kind of schemed out ways to cover up for

Bonovich on that end and uh accentuate his strengths on the offensive end obviously if that’s not the case that’s a big problem but I would I would assume that no there’s not a scenario where bonovich his minutes would get cut his role would get cut because of whatever

Is happening on the defensive end oh guaga Muse wants to know what do we do if Randall has a setback and is injured yet again for the postseason now it’s possible right he’s he’s dealing with the shoulder the shoulder I don’t think is going to be 100 perent when he comes

Back but this is why you trade for depth if you’re the Knicks I don’t think this was the chief reason they made these deals but boan bogdanovich gives you insurance if Julius Randle is unavailable uh you know you have depth on this roster players who can slide in

To that four spot maybe ogn and Obi others if Julius Randle does have that setback so I think one of the benefits of bringing on bonovich is it gives you that insurance piece if Randall is is unavailable and again there’s optimism that he will be but I don’t think you’re

You’re clear of anything until he gets back on the court and he’s able to perform with the shoulder in whatever state it is so it’s a good question it’s it’s something to think about it’s something I am sure the Knicks have thought about internally as they approach the deadline and Beyond here

Have a question here from joyless division Joes has a question about precious at Chua and Joes wants to know what are the Knicks thinking about R’s restricted free agency and would he only be brought back if they decided to trade Mitchell Robinson or not resign Isaiah

Hartenstein well let me start there I I think the Knicks have every intent to resign Isaiah hartstein uh going into this summer I think some of their decisions including uh around Emanuel quickley extension and and what quickley was looking for and what they felt was a

Good number for them I think going back to that date they had been looking at things through the prism of we want to resign Isaiah hartstein so I think that’s a goal and I do think you’re right I think when you look at this Center position you’ve got Metro

Robinson uh four years I believe 60 million hartenstein could be four years around 70 million could you then invest more money in a third Center like a precious auua who will be a restricted free agent I can’t see it I mean he’s played really well for this team and it

Would be it would be tough I think for everybody involved to see him walk this summer but unless you’re trading Mitchell Robinson unless you are not resigning Isaiah hartstein I can’t see you paying market value for what pre Chua will have earned in the market uh for a third Center just it

Doesn’t make sense roster wise that’ll do it for this edition of Begley’s mailbag but keep those questions coming because we will have another Edition for you coming up later in the regular season w

In this episode of Begley’s Mailbag, SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley answers fan questions heading into the Knicks’ second half of the season, including what would happen if Julius Randle had a setback with his injury, if Bojan Bogdanovic’s defense will impact his playing time, and what New York could do in the offseason with Precious Achuiwa and potential stars they could acquire.

  3. Bogdon and Fournier are the SAME player. It's a terrible trade. I can't stand Chucker Burks as a player & Grimes has a fabulous upside! Terrible trade!!

  4. 1. Randle doesn't play defense either, so everyone needs to stop acting like Bo is the only one or that Fournier was the only one before that.
    2. Precious is a 4. He can be the backup or starter if they trade Randle in a deal for Bridges or Luka.
    3. No to Towns. We don't need a super soft big man. Not now, not ever.
