We’ll find out months or years later that the players were sending a message over something because I thought it was immediately obvious.
Lebron luka and jokic really couldn’t care less abt it. And if that happens it won’t be competitive
Can we please just move on from the all star game? Pretty sure most fans are just excited about the regular season games resuming.
Honestly should just lean into the nonsense at this point. It’s not going to be competitive. So go the other way, try to brainstorm ideas to make it a circus that’s actually fun to watch, vs. a circus that’s boring as fuck.
Hot take: the players are pissed about something and this was their way of sending a warning shot to Adam Silver and the owners.
Silver is sweating bullets waiting for thursday’s games to start.
I don’t really care about the all star game but if you go watch the last few mins of 2001’s it’s so insane how good it was.
Dude if you have any respect for the game you play harder when fucking Larry Bird and Dr. J ask you to
Idk why people even spend money for Sunday night. 3pt contest and dunk contest Saturday night, sure. But just save your money after that. Unless it’s all included together? Idk if it works like that or if each night is separate.
Give every player a grade for their performance and low graded players don’t get put on the following season ballot.
THIS IS MY ORIGINAL IDEA
i dont blame them, all the guys who dont make the game get the weekend off and a minivacation, their reward for being the best is an extra game, just let them have fun for fuck sake its the all star game its not a championship
Wemby was in all-star mode
Winning team has a chance to be all stars again the next season. Losers can not. Hit them where it hurts.
Low effort plus a style of play where everyone is spead out shooting threes is a bad combo. I don’t think just having guys try harder will make the game more entertaining.
Bennedict Mathurin needs to get good enough to be an all-star. Problem solved…
It’s the equivalent of asking a room full of Mega Millions winners to go work hard at their old job. Not gonna happen.
Maybe it was just me but i saw more competitive players than non competitive players. Guys like lebron, jokic, luka definitely stood out as not giving a shit.
The rest of the players especially sga, brown, kat, dame, giannis, tatum, hali, book, and curry seemed like they wanted to win.
I think the game in general is very different now. 3 pointers fucking change the game for better or worse.
Same thing last year, tatum just got absolutely hot. This year dame and haliburton are hitting 80% from down town(or it seems) , its hard to make up ground when players don’t miss.
Perhaps the easiest solution that I’ve seen no body suggest yet is eliminate three point shots in the asg. It will make scores and leads a-lot more manageable.
No respect.
Have the pundits saying that the players should get paid extra for all star considered the fact that these same players get paid for the regular season games that they barely try in?
No bigger primadonna than an NBA “super star”
Remember these are the same guys crying about being “forced” to play at least 60 games in order to be eligible for the super max.
I always wonder how the players would react if one team had like 2 guys who played average intensity defense. Would anyone else join in or would they wait for a break and give them a lecture on “unwritten rules”.
If any player wants some good publicity for their brand, all they have to do is go out and play with a little effort.
If the players aren’t going to give a shit just cancel the all star break all together and uses that extra time to spread the schedule out better.
Either they’re going to make the game count in some way somehow (like Finals home court advantage) or the players are barely going to try. It’s as simple as that. ‘Asking them nicely’ isn’t going to do anything.
The players have no respect for Adam Silver. It’s actually entertaining to watch them continually dump on him
Big “I want to talk to you about your *flair*” energy
Why don’t we just pick all-stars and not have the actual game.
It genuinely looks to be broken beyond repair. Say what you will about David Stern, he wouldn’t let it come to this.
What’s changed is the superstar players in the league are corporations now. They are self-interested and want to maximize their value at every turn. The business of sport is destroying the soul of competitive pro sports.
I don’t think it’s so much the immediate reaction that’s concerning as much as it is the domino effect of having your players basically throw in the towel at their own discretion. Because while their pockets may be set, the next stars up are gonna have to pay the price for the foundation of integrity being broken. The NBA isn’t gonna pay for the all star weekend if there’s no effort being put in to make it worth people spending their money. Despite next year being in the Bay Area, it’ll be interesting to see how fans react to the game if the trend continues on of players basically taking the money and giving fans the finger.
