Mike Brown on the pressure that Keegan Murray is dealing with in his second season

Mike Brown on the pressure that Keegan Murray is dealing with in his second season

From today at all what’s that much today much different from yesterday uh in in terms of like just getting everything back to routine and uh difference between the two practices no I I thought we had a good practice yesterday I thought we had a good practice today yeah yeah how’s this kind

Of you got is it fortunate to open at home you haven’t had many home games on the schedule for the month of February and to come out of the break how how fortunate it is to have kind of one of those home games I you know our fans are

The best in the league and the energy that they bring to Golden one is you know it’s not matched in my opinion so to be able to play in front of your home crowd at any time especially our home crowd is always a good thing so I I look

At it as as that more than anything else has that stood out the the record the home record this here are you pleased where it is I’m sure there’s moments that stick out that you want more but how do you feel it I I I don’t know what

Our home record is so I’m sorry but but I I do know that the energy playing here being able to sleep in your own own bed and all that other stuff is a lot better than being on the road you guys AJ he’s great uh in he’s

Close you guys are went first you’re currently 14th in offense but you know if you look at like the efficiency numbers they’re not from last year a bunch of teams crazy numbers do you feel like you know there’s been a significant offensive drop off for you guys this year small where

You yeah you I said this yesterday there there are couple areas that you know I obviously we locked into after the FL uh but our biggest one is our free throw efficiency you know if you like we shot the same from the free throw line as we

Did last year which isn’t which is not unable we’ be I think eight or something seven off and that’s with the explosion on off in the Flor so uh so for me um yeah we’re going to keep coaching our pace and all that other stuff uh but I I

Think even Pace right now we’re our we’re higher in our Pace right now we were last year so we’re going to keep coaching all those other thingses as well as shooting of see how it shakes out at the end of the day you um coming out when you talked

About the benefit of availability and health and all that um obviously you can’t same shot Sasha and banged up guys do you feel that you guys are still having the Good Fortune for the most part of Health the season uh yeah you know we we go through we’re going through it like anybody

Else the difference is is is last season we didn’t have to deal with it at all you know I think everybody was available most of the year um and you know having different guys in and out you know from foxy ke to trade whoever else uh was a

Little bit of an adjustment but it’s good for us to go through because uh this is what the normal NBA is about that’s why you have 18 guys uh on most teams and for you you talk about you know kind of decompressing a little Allstar break we talked yesterday about

Kind of big picture do you try not do you come in yourself even with more of an open mind after five days away or find little things that you might want to install or implement or do you try to keep things as consistent as possible well you know if you can keep them

Consistent you know anybody know no matter walk no matter what Walk of Life you’re in if you can have some form of consistency it’s must appreciated by everybody that’s involved with whatever’s going on and so uh that’s what you like to do but at the end of

The day uh you know if something’s not working you may have to to change it up you know and like our our we haven’t shot the ball well from the free throw line so we’re shooting more free throws and practice than we ever have and uh uh

You know uh defensively we’re not good defending the three-point line so we’ve changed some uh some technique on our Closeouts and those are needed you know in my opinion and so if something’s needed you make an adjustment and you also don’t just wait to Allstar break to make

An adjustment you you make an adjustment when you feel like you need to make one and so uh coming out of the break we’ve made some tweaks but uh you know at the end of the day if you can have some form of consistency then then that’s probably

The best for everybody involv coach what do those free throw drills look like is it just one like they just park them right there and say start flowing free throws or do you you you got to mix it up just you know no matter what you do any drills

You do you try to mix it up keep the guys engaged uh sometimes you have them shoot bulk for uh 10 minutes uh sometimes you have a make five in a row at all five baskets or at three baskets uh we have a free throw game that we

Play that we’ve been playing you know even going back into last year so uh it’s a lot of different things that you try to um do for them or do with them to keep them off balance and keep them engaged in the same breath coach uh

Victor WBA Yama he had a triple double recently 10 blocks um how do you get your players you know to adjust to somebody like that who uh you know is a good shot blocker and trying to get down you know downhill and get in the paint

Trying to score try to get around him you know uh um deflecting and and changing your shots and things like that if I’m not giving away any secrets no you can no I mean everybody knows he’s a great shop locker and you know what we

Like to do anyway we like to touch the paint and spray and uh so you know Victor’s coming I think it just has to be a a feel we’ve talked about it we’ve shown it we’ve already played him once if he’s coming and you don’t think you

Have an advantage and stray the ball and go from what maybe a good shot to a great shot you know so I I don’t think it’s anything tricky uh or that’s that’s hard to grasp uh you just got to respect his ability to to be able to lot of

Shots and no when to get off it huh one one he might be one to one with with his length and his skill set and all that other stuff it’s I I mean i’ I’ve never never seen anything like it before we’ve seen ke can take strides on

Both sides of the ball obviously the two level sport at this point um we challenged him to get more rebounds when he can and obviously defensively he’s he stepped up as well where have you seen him grow the most this season uh Keegan’s grown in a lot of areas and you

Know I say this all the time uh I don’t know if there’s a seconde player that probably has more pressure on them than than he does you know uh we’re a playoff team uh nine times out of 10 he’s taken the best perimeter offensive player for

The other team so we’re asking him to defend at a high level in your second year we’re asking him to shoot the three asking to go get uh buckets from his first and second level uh we’re asking him to rebound not just defensive rebound but offensive rebound and and

The pressure is there for him to do it on every play while uh understanding that we’re a playoff team and again look at the guys drafting around them I’m not sure if any of them have been in the playoffs yet uh let alone have the pressure of the things that I just

Mentioned that that that Keegan has so uh he’s grown a lot of different areas not just one specific area and I’ll you know in my opinion he’s just going to continue to get better which is a benefit for this organization and the city thanks everyone
