Stephen A. takes issue with Jaylen Brown’s 65-game minimum comments | First Take

Any issues with brown wanting to lower the minimum game threshold for the end of the season awards JJ Mad Dog I guess for me and I and I love Jaylen Brown I I guess for me it was the messenger more than the message okay the person who just signed

Last Summer the richest contract in the history of basketball 5 years 304 million is talking about how less games played should still qualify you for some of the awards again he may have a point I just think it would have been better to hear from somebody other than him uh

If you’re the view in public you might take that wrong just for some stats JJ Mad Dog last season 16 of the 27 Allstars played in at least 65 games five seasons ago was 21- 27 Allstars who played in the least 65 games 10 years ago 22 or 25 Allstar

Played in the least 65 games that’s 88% 20 seasons ago it was 22 or 24 allst stars who played in at least 65 games so from 20 years ago it was 92% 10 years ago it was 88% 5 years ago it was 78% now it’s dipped to 59% JJ you do with

Those numbers whatever you will because I know some of the things you alluded to in the changes of basketball or whatever to educate our viewers and stuff like that I just wanted to throw those numbers out there so you can take it from there go ahead listen we talked a bunch about

Load management last year M and the NBA uh along with the Union they came up with these parameters around missing nationally televised games who you could rest when you could rest all that stuff they came up with this threshold I am a fan of all of this stuff all right the

Reality is we’re not going to see we’re not going to see Star players and guys who play 38 minutes A Night play 82 games it’s it’s close to Impossible uh I’ve touched on this before the game is different players have to cover 15 to 20% more there’s more Dynam Dynamic

Movement as you’re covering that space there just is there just is here’s my issue with the 65 game threshold I’m sorry here’s my issue with the the the the end of season awards being attached to financial incentives because I have no problem with the 6 game threshold

Let’s this is year one of this let’s see how these new rules play out over three four five seasons my my big issue is this if a team is willing to sign a rookie a guy in his rookie contract to the super max extension and that player

Hasn’t made all NBA yet and there’s that incentive Clause right if you make all NBA in your fourth year then you get the extra4 $50 million or whatever it doesn’t make sense to me it doesn’t cuz then it puts pressure on a player in the case of Tyrese halmer it puts pressure

On him to come back too soon from a h hamstring injury because he’s got to meet that threshold he’s not going to get it this year right so if you’re willing to pay a player that over the course of five years why why would there not be incentives around making all NBA in

Year five or year six or year seven or year eight that part of it doesn’t make sense now the union agreed to this right or the players agreed to this they they agreed to this CL that’s the only issue I have with any any sort of games threshold Financial

Incentives tied to all NBA stuff I just don’t like Tatum missed out on it as well Jason Tatum missed out on it Jason Tatum is one of the five or six best players in the NBA and has been for the past couple Seasons he made first two

First Team all NBAs in a row I don’t know that he’ll make it this year but he’s made two First Team all NBAs in a row yeah I uh listen to me more games is the answer not less they already missed 21 you can miss 21% of your season and

Still win an MVP if Brown goes down to 58 games who’s making 60 million dollar a year I only want really 60 million I mean but he wants to play 58 games to win an MVP that’s 26% of the regular Season

Stephen A. Smith, JJ Redick and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo react to Jaylen Brown saying a 65-game minimum “might be a little too severe.”

  1. You notice how well behaved Stephen A is when JJ is around. JJ is the only person Stephen A is scared to debate with…he just seem very careful with his choice of words and what to say when JJ is around.

  2. Born in 83 raised in the 90s. Football is soft now. Basketball is soft now. Boxing is whack. The sports I loved growing up is now water down cupcakes.

  3. the issue is that none of these men in the league have had real jobs. Their perception of performance vs production is f'ed up. Just because you are able to do something doesn't warrant rewards if you aren't doing it.

  4. absurd still defending players playing so few games. Embarrassing when ur job is to play ball and still complain lmfaooo

  5. Pay attention, the good house is money well spent by his daddy. Stephen a is a disgrace and definitely need to have his brotha card revoked. Blacks are the real Jews. You don't need enemies when you have spineless traitors amongst your people

  6. These players have no self awareness. Brown makes 60 million per year. Let me play the worlds smallest violin for you.

  7. LeBron is almost 40 – the oldest player in the NBA – and has played 86% of the games this season. Only missed 7 out of 56. If he can do it, these young guys can do it, too. Stop complaining.

  8. Jaylen isn’t an All NBA type of player anyways. He’s a notch below that and everyone knows it. That why these regular season single season rewards are overrated. You were all nba last year but not a top 20 player overall that’s crazy. KD, Book, Bron, Ad, Jokic, JOJO, Tatum, Luka, Ja, SGA, Jimmy, Dame, Steph, Kawhi, PG, Mitchell, Giannis all objectively better. Then it’s a whole other tier who you could argue is better than Brown,…..Brunson, ANT, Halliburton, Porzingis, Bam, Beal, Fox, Sabonis, Young, Murray, Towns, Kyrie

  9. This just makes me miss Kobe even more. He would immediately call out all these players who are making far more money than he ever did, and instill upon them the will to play through injuries. Todays superstars would never survive the previous era

  10. The NBA is a trash league with the worst athletes who are racists MJ played all 82 now these trash players don't want to play 65, the moment China stops giving this racist league money this league is done

  11. then they'll say 58 games is somewhat severe still, lower it to 50, next thing you know they'll want it lowered further.

  12. These players need to be checked by a psychologist 🤣🤣 Let them continue when the tv networks start paying less they gonna learn its gonna take time but eventually its gonna happen

  13. Every player who was involved in all star weekend should be embarrassed of himself while complaining about anything.

  14. Its close to impossible to play 82 games but plenty of players did in 80s 90s and early 00s. Thats the new era that supposedly got better technology and equipment that can't.
