HOW Did The Celtics Get Away With This…

The Boston Celtics are an incredible team they are a top tier Contender they’re in my opinion the best team in the entire league and they have an incredibly well constructed and well balanced roster but looking back on it there’s honestly no way that they ever should have been able to put together

This team now there’s one specific move that I’m talking about in this video but even looking back on the entirety of the roster getting someone like Jason Tatum via that trade that they made with the Nets being able to draft and develop Jaylen Brown there’s so many pieces they

Came together and worked out perfectly for what is like the fourth different version of a very competitive finals worthy Celtics team that we’ve had over the last 10 years or so with work being done by a previous front office and then now a new front office as well Boston

Has clearly established themselves as one of the best organizations one of the best front offices in the entire league however what I’m talking about today is I cannot understand how we allowed this team to end up with Drew holiday because when you go back to the offseason there

Was one big gigantic move there were plenty of Trades were plenty of player movement but the one big huge just cataclysmic moment that we had in the off season was Damen Lillard requesting a trade and there are all these rumors about where Dame did or did not want to

Go whether it was Miami or elsewhere and to me it kind of seems like he still wants to be in Miami but that’s the story for a different day but ultimately Milwaukee is the team that makes the trade and on paper it was like you know what they did need more floor spacing

Drew holiday did fall off as an offensive player Chris Middleton has been getting old they need a more reliable offensive partner alongside Giannis so the trade away Drew holiday and what happened next like almost never happens when Milwaukee makes that trade when they trade away Drew holiday they’re thinking okay Drew holiday is

Going to end up on a different team he’s going to end up on a contender but we should be fine it shouldn’t be to our biggest competition it shouldn’t create a an even better team at the top that we’re trying to contend with by trading way Drew holiday it should be okay um

And then the worst thing possible for Milwaukee happened where Drew holid goes to Portland and then ends up ultimately getting moved to Boston and there’s two different sides to this one I wish I could just give the Bucks front office some truth serum and say okay you’ve now

Seen the majority of a season of what Damen Lillard in Milwaukee looks like if you had the choice would you knowing what the team looks like now and knowing that Drew holiday would end up in Boston would you have made the Damian Lillard trade I think if you just ask them okay

You you do the Dame trade and you get rid of Drew and the other assets they traded away but you get Damen Lillard back I think they would still do that even with as weird of a season as it’s been for them but if you also tell them

That Drew holiday ends up in Boston I don’t think they make the move and I know that it seems like oh well Boston already has all these great pieces but Drew holiday has been the piece that has completed this roster because Boston went into the offseason looking to make

Changes looking to make a move and they traded away Marcus Smart in a package ultimately and eventually a deal that gets them Chris porzingis and that left a spot on the roster that was a question mark for them that Drew holiday immediately filled that spot and was

Pretty cheap to get in return for the stuff that they sent out because he’s an impending free agent because he’s a little bit older and because uh he didn’t have a great postseason and they were able to just basically get rid of Marcus Smart get Chris porzingis in

Exchange and then for you know not that much within their rotation then add Drew holiday as well and I don’t really think this like ever happens like if y you’re making the Dame trade to improve your roster to improve your chances of winning a title I think they actually

Made their chances of winning a title worse regardless of what you think of the Daman Lillard Milwaukee Bucks adding Drew holiday to this Celtics team never should have happened and I think is more of a detriment to Milwaukee possibly winning a title or contending or winning

The East than it was bringing in Damen lien exchange for Drew holiday in the first place which brings me to my main Celtics point here it’s one that I’ve made on the channel before before they are the best team in the league they just are if Boston is healthy and they

Are making threes they are going to win the NBA title I know that that seems like an oversimplification of things there’s all these different things that could happen there’s a lot of really good teams around the league but Boston has put together a roster and more specifically a starting and ending group

Of five players that no other team around the league can compete with if one they’re healthy and two they’re making jump shots that’s just the end of the if they’re making threes and all five of those guys are playing they are going to win the NBA title I’m telling

You right now they just are obviously injury concerns are with there are with guys like Chris porzingis even Drew holiday has dealt with stuff and this is a team that relies heavily on making three-point shots there’s a lot of variance in that especially when you get into the postseason and we have seen

Teams in the past that rely a ton on three-pointers namely some of those James Harden Houston Rockets teams completely fall apart even when they have put together an incredible roster but Boston has been as d dominant this season relative to their peers within the Eastern Conference as any team that

We have seen over the last handful of years and there’s a reason for it of course they had the foundation Jaylen Brown Jason Tatum then they were able to make some really nice moves getting Dereck white a few years ago bringing in Chris porzingis in the offseason but the

Drew Holiday trade is the trade that they never should have been able to make that’s the trade they never counted on that’s the trade that they never thought they were going to be able to make and when Milwaukee decided to do the Dame trade they opened up the possibility of

Increasing the chances of the Celtics winning the title which is the opposite of the intention of the initial move and that doesn’t even mean that Milwaukee made a mistake I don’t think they anticipated that Drew holiday was going to end up in Boston because when you

Look at the assets that Boston had of the time when you look at the expenses the salaries all this stuff you’re thinking okay they could get him but there’s plenty of other teams that could or maybe would be incentivized to offer more an exchange for Drew holiday maybe

They thought he was going to end up in Miami or the Knicks or Philadelphia or all these different teams I don’t think they thought that Boston was going to end up with them and again I think if they knew that I think they would just reverse it be like a just kidding we’ll

We we’ll undo the Dame trade he can go to Miami that’s fine we’d rather keep Drew holiday him on the Celtics it’s just a complete disaster for the rest of the conference and it just goes to show how difficult team building can be in the NBA you can make one decision that

On paper made plenty of sense for them yes defensively there’s going to be some issues when you’re swapping out Dam and Drew holiday obviously but of course Dame is also a huge upgrade offensively but no matter how it ends up working out whether it be this year or in the future

On paper the Dame trade made absolute sense there were things that you could say one way or the other about why it would or wouldn’t work out but it absolutely was a deal that seemed like it was going to increase the Bucks odds of winning a title and it has done in my

Opinion just the opposite now to be clear it’s not like Drew holiday ending up in Boston made the Celtics contenders I mean they made the finals recently they were going to be a contender for the title this year regardless it’s just the way that they structured their offseason they were okay replacing

Marcus Smart with someone that wasn’t as valuable as Marcus Smart so that they could have more sides in the front court so that they could have a better option in the front court at someone like Chris porzingis they were okay conceding that spot on the starting lineup for an

Upgrade for them in christops porzingis and then they were just able to get someone better than Marcus smt in that spot anyway it took them from like okay they are contenders they are on par with any other team in the league and certainly within the Eastern Conference

And it took them to a completely different level and that’s the best way to think about this entire situation Boston already had a contending team they already had a team that arguably was the best in the Eastern Conference after the Chris EPS porzingis trade before the Drew Holiday trade that’s

Already where they were you could have put that team in a seven game series and they could have beaten any team in the league in a seven game series and then you added Drew holiday to it think about all the other contending teams think about the Clippers right what if you

Just added Drew holiday onto that team and the rotation really wasn’t that impacted what if you just added Drew holiday to the Sixers to the heat the rotation wasn’t really that impacted all these other teams were thinking they were going to have to give up something significant and Boston just didn’t and

So yeah it’s it’s really difficult to to build a good team in the NBA but also sometimes things just work out like Boston when they made the KP trade they probably didn’t think that they were going to have an opportunity to replace Marcus SM with someone like Drew holiday

And this is just the trade that I’m sure they never anticipated and again they just they just never should have been able to make now having said all that uh it’s not like the season is over there absolutely are ways in which boss can not win the title or not be successful

In the postseason they have been dominant in previous years before in the regular season as well and not been able to win the title and there are still basketball games to be played and weird stuff can happen but in my estimation if things are at least close to normal in

Terms of three-point shooting and Boston is healthy they are the team to beat and I think a large reason for that is because of an indirect consequence that Milwaukee absolutely did not expect from the Damian Lily tree

The Boston Celtics are the best team in the NBA, and a big reason for that is the Jrue Holiday trade.

  1. This reminds me a lot of the 85-86 season. Coming off a shocking Finals loss to the Lakers, Boston knew they would still be major contenders in the 86 season, if they just stood pat. But, they went out and got Bill Walton, and made an already great team, into possibly the greatest single season team of all-time. I have been a Celtics fan my whole life, and the only other time I was as confident as I am right now, about winning the NBA Title, was that 86 season, going 50-1 at home, along the way. Even in 2008, with the arrival of Garnett, Allen, Posey, and House, and being far in front of everyone, all season, I wasn't nearly as confident because we had an unproven point-guard (Rajon Rondo), and an all-time oaf at center, Kendrick Perkins. (The Man With The Hands of Stone). Sorry Roberto Duran. This year, there are no such weaknesses. The bench was supposed to be our weakness, but before the deadline, Hauser, Pritchard, Horford and Kornet, were all playing their parts well. Now, with Xavier Tillman and Jaden Springer, the bench is even better.

  2. This video should've been done when they actually won something. It doesn't matter what move someone does unless it leads to a championship (or be a good team if you're a tanking team)

  3. That's not really going out on a limb. Of course they'll win if they're making threes. But that's the problem – threes don't fall in big games unless your Steph Curry. That's just how it works.

  4. The loses to the Nuggets, Lakers, Cliipers and Milwaukee does not convince me that this is the best team in the league inspite of their record. The team still lacks a leader who can take charge when things are not going their way. If this person is Tatum, we are going home empty again.

  5. Smart for Porzingis PLUS a 1st round pick will go down in history. Its llike a lesser version of DeRozan for Kawhi

  6. Celtics were already a top tier contender, and they added guys who immediately became their 3rd and 4th best player, without giving up their top 3 players from the year before.

  7. First off , I thought the video was fair . As a Bucks fan of course it would have been best for him to go to a Western team playing for rings , That said Boston was always going to be the team to beat for The bucks to get out of the East so "big picture" it didn't really change anything. Then you have to factor in what was said at the end of the video , Let's say The Bucks don't make the move and Dame goes to The Heat , to me that would have been even worse for The Bucks.

As is , again as a Bucks fan I really am still more worried about The Heat Shooting light out again with Jimmy Buckets stealing games Then Boston. My biggest question with Boston is how much does "big Al" still have left in him because he is been able to slow down Giannis better then most. Porzingis a bit a of wild card but I really see him not playing well vrs The Bucks or being a factor as much vrs other teams they play.

This is why I still fear "Big AL" , they traded away all there other "Giannis stoppers" and Porzingis is not going to be able to guard Giannis . Giannis wants it bad this year and he is going to be going hard,

  8. “If they’re healthy and making jump shots 😂” Yeah, but you know Tatum and Brown are going to no-show again. 2-15 games incoming for both of them.

  9. Celtics legit the best team at finding mismatches and abusing them if the 3s don’t fall we got many other ways to win

  10. You better own this statement when the bucks beat the Celtics! Need to make a another video and say I was completely wrong about the dame trade smh

  11. Celtics are the Dodgers of the NBA. They win a lot in the regular season, drafted great players, consistently getting other great players thru trades or free agency but never winning a title.
For years we’ve been hearing the Celtics are gonna win the title but every year they fall short. Don’t care for any Celtics hype until they win a title.

  12. All 5 starting members are two way threat…Jrue and white are top2 defensive guards on a same team and JT and JB are a top 3 two way duo in the league

  13. I really hope the TWolves make the finals and are healthy because I think they match up really well to beat the Celtics. Lots of Lengthy perimeter defenders and the KAT/Rudy combo has been unreal defensively this season.

  14. They got Holiday and KP for peanuts. They were able to construct this team because they took advantage of a bunch of stupid GMs whose franchises are sucking. I still can't believe Cronin has a job.

  15. When Dame was traded to Milwaukie it became a 3 team race with Boston and Philly. You can argue which team was better. But after the Holiday trade and the way he and Porzingis have fit, it is clear which team is better.

  16. Playoff ball is where defense shines and the Cs will only go as far as their D will take them. They’re Top 5 in Pts allowed which combined with their Top 5 scoring ranking gives them a double digit Point Differential which is 2 ppg better than OKC.

  17. As a Celtics fan, I still can't believe we got Jrue. DWhite and Jrue (collectively as the Stock Exchange) are the best defensive backcourt in the league.

  18. They’ve had the best roster every season and still can’t win nothing 😂 Denver went to Boston and handed them their first L at home after that they lost 3 straight at jokic is the best player in the world and they not getting past Denver Boston trash bought an all star starting 5 to lose again 😂

  19. I am hesitant to give them praise until we see them in the playoffs. No doubt they are good, but they have been good in the regular season for a while. We need to see it work in the playoffs.

  20. If you’re not a Celtics Fan it’s not for u to Understand How we got Jrue .. So just Accept it and move on it’s the final semester of the regular season and y’all still hating on the NBA BEST TEAM… The Warriors, Lakers, Dynasties are over so JUST FACE IT ITS BOSTON CELTICS TIME NOW🏀🧙🏽🍀

  21. There had to be some under the table deals here. How Celtics were able to trade a regressing asset in Smart for Kristaps who was fresh off a career year averaging 23/8/3 and 2 FIRST ROUND PICKS makes no logical sense. Not to mention the Jrue deal. Something looks so sketchy here

  22. The one thing your leaving out is Jrue wanted to end his career with the Bucks so when he was traded he told Portland’s front office he wanted to go to Boston, that is why he is here obviously Celtics wanted him but Jrue also wanted the Celtics. He wants to be on a contender but also the rival to the team that did him dirty after all he did for them with also showing his loyalty. Bucks in returned sent him out the door, so thank you Bucks for your monumental mistake!!!!

  23. I love Jrue; but the Celtics would be just as good this year with White Brogdon Brown Tatum KP Horford Rob Williams.

  24. Smart to Holiday wasn’t that revolutionary. KP has made them unstoppable. His post ups are the most efficient play in the league by far.
