The varsity basketball coach of a very successful program in northern Michigan thank you so much for listening Please Subscribe our Pistons lost they got hammered tonight by the Orlando Magic 113 to 97 and it wasn’t even that close but they just completely outplayed us they their size they just destroyed us

Inside they points in the paint 68 to 40 I guess that kind of tells you but they you know we didn’t even play our starters only a few minutes in the second half because they got they got destroyed but um we shot 38% and they

Shot 60% we only shot 22% % on threes so that’s kind of the game they’re a great defensive team and we’re not and they just took advantage every time they get a mismatch and they have lots of mismatches because they have Von Caro and bagner and wend Carter Jr those

Three guys they can play them on on the court and you can’t match all three of them I I thought you know we barely lost to the magicat home and I thought boy we could have used do that game because he match can match up with some of those

Big guys but they you know they just destroyed us worse but it was it was 59 to 50 at halftime we were only down by nine and we hadn’t played that well so I was a little bit excited you know that we would come back and play good in the

Second half and as a coach I always tell my players because I’ve seen it happen over and over again in all levels of basketball the beginning of the third quarter one team goes on the run that team usually wins the game it’s happens all the time and maybe even if you don’t

Win the game usually one team goes like on a 12 to four run or something like that but they they just BL they killed us we were we got our starters were in the game so you know we always talking about how our benches just killed us but

This game we’re we’re down by nine and our starters um we were down by 27 at one point then he brings the bench in the bench cut it to 13 you know by the beginning some at some point in the beginning of the fourth quarter but then

They got killed too and so then you know they they got outscored pretty bad it was down you know 207 point game but we were behind by 27 at one point and you know again it was really tough and so Monty he was smart we got to play the

Magic um on Tuesday and so it was smart to just let the starters rest and reward the bench because they you know they were playing better and yeah I don’t have any problem with that so yeah it was interesting that um Bill Simmons on his podcast and I talk about his podcast

Sometimes that he had Ryan rasillo who’s another guy I I like to follow that’s a knowledgeable NBA um reporter that he has his own podcast but he comes out with Bill Simmons I guess he’s gonna come on every Sunday now but they they were talking about the Pistons so you

You would have to go to it’s on Monday’s Bill Simmons podcast and with Ryan rillo and if you go to the one hour and 13 and a half minute mark one hour and 13 and a half minute Mark they start talking about the Pistons and it was hilarious

They said the Pistons should uh parti partition the league and try to have the Pistons have to play the Wizards the best out of seven and if the Wizards win then the Pistons get to uh reig on Monty’s contract they they said there there should be a lemon law they said

They said that that after 60 days we should be able to null and void his contract uh Monty’s contract so you know and again Monty he’s doing a little bit better things he’s done did some things tonight that I liked a little bit better even though we we got killed but they

They just they were just amazed they they like some of the Piston players they they like they say Pistons are way better than the wizards they said the Pistons should not be this bad and that’s what everybody knows and they also said anybody that watches League Pass would know that you can’t play

Killian Hayes or whatever and they said didn’t Monty watch tape from last year’s team you know and obviously he didn’t and I I mentioned that earlier what that hat why didn’t he go back and even if you just looked at the statistics but you know Monty I do think he has some

Ego that he thinks he does no better but was it was funny listening to those guys talk I think you get a big kick out of but they uh Simmons even bet on the Pistons to um beat the over for the rest of the season because he thinks they got

Some good players and they play are playing better but then they got you know beat by Orlando the last time on a last second shot so he said man I should know should have known better but it is it is funny if you if you get a chance

To listen to it so they said Monte was one of the worst this is one of the worst coaching jobs in the NBA in a long time that Monty Williams has done but they did mention also that Monty raised the bar for all the pays pay for all the

Other coaches in the NBA so they thought that was nice for him but they just said just but just not having Killian to play Down the stretching games and play 25 minutes a game makes the Piston’s a better team so you look at Orlando they they punish you they get you know we

Switch a lot a lot of teams switch a lot in the NBA when they set a lot of picks and then but when you have those three big guys out there you end up getting switched off and we end up having Ivy or Sasser on Vagner Carter or bonero and

They’re going to get destroyed my opinion is you just go to once that happens you have to send a double and you have to rotate and you know even if you give up a easy shot you just can’t you know that Sasser was trying to guard

Bagner once and you know the help came way too late and we just got destroyed but we don’t do that so you know like Joe Eng Les Joe Les is guarding Jaden Ivy so where do we put Jaden ivy in the corner he’s in the corner standing there

And he has instead you know they kelse was mentioning you know soon as the magic sees they have this mismatch they are getting the ball and finding that person that has a mismatch and again we do not do that so instead We Run The High pick and roll with Duran and that’s

Been real effective and Kate had six assists I think in the first half to Duran because they’re just blitzing him they just in instead of just usually people hedge you usually the person guarding the Picker jumps out shows help and then they Retreat and then that

Gives the the defender time to slide in and and get back on his man but they were just completely all out double teaming Cade and the problem is with the non-shooter like having AAR along with a non-shooter like uh Duran is that they just send aar’s man into the paint to

Guard Duran when both Duran’s man and kad’s man are are crapping Cade and so you know that’s what is going to happen with good teams they just know what to do that and you know we got a sour in the corner and he’s just going to be

Wide open and so you know he was two for 10 and one for six tonight on three so he’s been hot lately but not tonight so yeah we just got to be smart there’s just things that you can do you can’t so if if they’re blitzing Cade and doubl

And trapping him on every pick and roll you either have somebody else run the pick and roll they had Sasser and Stu run the pick and roll and they um left Stu two picked and popped and got a wide open three once so anyway we just have

To be smarter and there’s sets that you can run there’s things that you can run to do things we we had a set we ran we ran a really good play coming out of a timeout and got Ivy a really good shot out of a timeout but it’s not that easy

Again I I had teams I I I over coached okay I over coached when I was a coach but I I had too many plays I had all these little quick hitters that were effective especially against average teams or worse but you know they still created spacing and movement and ball

Reversal those are the the components of good offense instead of having just Kate come down and try to drive or Kade come down and have the high pick and roll you need to have movement away from the ball and so and you have to have ball

Reversal and then you get good you get good shots I can just tell you that and then but we don’t do that and so it’s you know I don’t think it’s that hard to do but um let’s talk about oh so Monty did something we”ve been all for and so

Results don’t always show that you’re doing the right thing so you know you could say well we started stew against uh this team and we won so therefore we should always start Stu I still don’t think we should always start Stu I would rather have fonio start and you know Stu

Has played well Stu played really great last game that we lost and he played in that one game that we won but there’s also different factors like the one game that we won was against Chicago and they shot six% on threes the you know the worst since 2014 so there’s just you

Can’t just say go by you know what the results are always but um he had a time there was a time in the game where we had Stu Ivy vono Sasser and fornier in the game I like that that’s that was good work Monte that was good work you know

Whether you know again whether it works or not at least we staggered we had more offense in the game and you know we weren’t as apt to get killed like we have been in the past with all bench unit so keep doing that let’s see what

Happens I still say that they they’re a good team they they are 12 they’ve won 12 out of the last 16 games they’re 12 and four in their last 16 games they’re legit so and they’re playing at home and they got you know uh bonero was tough

Tonight he was sick last time we played him he had not a good game even though he made the winning shot but he played tough um yeah they had some they just got a nice team and they you know they they they make they make the fewest

Threes in the NBA so it’s a three-point League they’re the outlier so there’s different ways to win in the NBA and typically if you don’t make three usually the team that makes the most threes wins or the team that shoots a better percentage but they they only

Make 11 threes a game but they’re second they make the second most free throws in the game so that’s how they do it so let’s look at the box score assar 33 minutes I like that um all the other starters Monty didn’t put him back in in

The fourth quarter but he always he puts in AAR and so I I like that even though he was not having a good game he was two for 10 and he’s been shooting really good lately and he was one for six on threes three for four from the line six

Rebounds one assist three steals one block two turnovers eight points so that wasn’t a good game for him but he I know we still I’m I’m not even you know I still think there’s things that we could do different things we could do better I want to win but my main contention all

Year year has been if that we play the core for and then we play the young guys and we give them minutes they didn’t get the minutes tonight but I I’m not blame him Monty for that because it was blowout and the starters played bad in the third quarter so anyway St 27

Minutes four for seven one for three on threes one for two on free throws four rebounds two assists one block two turnovers minus 27 he had 10 points so not as good a game for Stu tonight um durran was 25 minutes only four for n three for three on free throws so posit

On a positive note uh durren is shooting free throws 14% making 14% more on his free throws than he did last year so that’s what that’s what this year is about hopefully we can can win some games we have um I said we play every

Other day you know we got to go play Miami in Miami tomorrow or Tuesday excuse me and then we play have four games at home and again they come every other day our our next games are for a while so um but Juran had four rebounds

Only that’s GNA hurt his averages he was averaging right where I said before the season I predicted he’d average 14 points and 12 rebounds but um so yeah there’s a lot of games to average in so I’m sure his average didn’t dip that bad but he had two assists one steal but

Three turnovers three turnovers in 25 minutes and only two assists so that’s and for the number of times he touches it he’s he doesn’t do a good job a lot of times and he’s just got to get better but he’s out there playing he’s going to

Learn so 11 points in minus 25 K 23 minutes he played the fewest minutes of all the starters four for2 so he shot well the first half so he shot really bad in the second half and he forced things and again they they’re loading up

On him they if he they set a ball screen for him he um gets trapped when he drives the basket they’re loading up on him and they’re helping right away and they got you you know there’s three guys waiting for him to take it to the basket

So and then they got three guys that are big so that’s another problem for like Kate and Ivy that they have a problem when a team even has one really big shot Blocker in there but these guys they blocked a lot of our Shots tonight so he

Had um One for four on threes he he’s been the hottest shooter before tonight he led the NBA in three-point shooting since Allstar break like 50% um two rebounds seven assists six were in the first half so one steel only one turnover nine points minus 21 Ivy 25

Points again he’s just we got to figure things out they got to make things better for him they got to get they have got a movement on the court they got to get him the ball more and give him some open space they got to get the ball to

Him in transition so he can attack the basket but he four for 12 one for four on threes two rebounds um he did Excuse Me 0 for five on threes I was reading Kade stats again three for 11 0 for five five on threes four for four from the line and you know

He he still gets to line a lot you know he draws way more fouls than Cade one rebound 10 points minus 29 that’s was the lost on the team Bono like I said I want I still would love to see him start he’s five for 10 32 minutes I think he

Led the team in minutes no no AAR did 32 minutes though and five for 10 two for five on threes three for three from the line four rebounds three assists which is awesome I like it when he passes two two steals 15 points plus four so he had

One of the top plus minuses they let uh try Brown Jr hasn’t played in while but he played only eight minutes tonight he had took one shot and didn’t get any rebounds or assists minus five uh Evan forier had a good game back he started he played in Orlando before

He beat us on it with a floater back few quite a few years ago but he’s played 26 minutes 6 for 13 three for8 on three two for two from the line one rebound but I love that he had five assists 17 points he let us in points and plus eight he

Let us in plus minus so that’s good ceser has been hurt this is his first game back and um disappointing um Grimes was out tonight he didn’t play because of his knee and hopefully that’s not hopefully it’s just a thing that they’re want to give him one extra day off to

Let him recover but he hasn’t been shooting well and obviously your legs are a big part of your shot and the part of your shot that is most important is when you bend your knees so but he was one for eight but he’s even when he was

Healthy he’s had a lot of G bunch of games like this it’s amazing he he had games like he’s like five for six on threes and then he has one for eight and 0 for five on threes tonight he was and one for one from the line three three

Rebounds four assists which is really good when for 24 minutes only one turnover so three so he only had three points and minus one again he has hasn’t played in a while uh wisman came in and played man he came in and so everybody gets mad and there

Everybody hates him and they act like he’s the reason we’re losing he’s the reason but you know maybe he is but he he plays 15 minutes he don’t he don’t he averages 15 minutes or 13 minutes that’s what he plays so it’s not like he’s just destroying us because but anyway he came

In tonight I think he made us first four shots but he only played 15 minutes he was four for five he was over for one from the uh for from the free throw line three rebounds eight points plus five but he went Coast to Coast so I’ve saw

Them do this he did this when he was with the Warriors he would get a rebound go dribble he has handles you wouldn’t know it because obviously he’s been told by the Pistons don’t put the ball on the floor and don’t shoot from outside and

He is trying to do what his coach has told him people would get mad about how many times he posted up last year and I I would say on my podcast well tell him not to do it or he’s going to come out and because he’s doing what he’s the

Coaches are telling him to do he’s popping up there setting picks or doing dribble handoffs but he he did he he got stuck there was no Outlet pass to be made and he dribbled it went coast to coast and scored but I’ve seen him go

Coast to coast in Euro Step and you know he’s got a a lot then he he hit a jumper from like 15 feet tonight which he hasn’t even been looking at the basket when he’s that far away so anyway he had a decent game but like I said we we got

Killed shooting they outshot Us by 22% and you’re just not going to win when you get outshot that bad even though they only made Seven threes tonight which you usually don’t win if you make that few and they only shot 30% but they

Killed us on the board so 48 to 29 28 to 48 I think that we got outrebounded just terrible and like I said points in the paint were 68 to 40 so that’s where the game got decided and you know it’s too bad that um anyway big news Caitlyn

Clark broke pisto Pete’s college scoring record the most points in a college career and a lot of people are mad so I’m a big proponent of girls Bas women’s basketball so just know that but also pisto ped is my hero pisto Pete I try to copy Pistol Pete and do everything that

He did Jerry West was another hero later on as I was a young adult though I loved Isaiah Thomas so anyway but pistol ped I tried to copy him and do what he did you know but he he averaged 44 points a game he only got to play three seasons and

Caitlyn Clark played Four Seasons there’s a uh Antoine uh Davis from Detroit Mercy almost broke pistol Peach record last year and but he played Five Seasons so he had the extra Co season so he played Five Seasons and they they did have a three-point line and I’m GNA tell

You Pistol Pete would get like he was being guarded and doubled and trapped way out far from the basket and he just launched these shots and nobody did it back then because there was no three-point line so you know most coaches would just bench you if you did

That but he didn’t get benched because his dad was his coach so unfortunately his dad um Prest meit committed suicide so that was a sad part but he was Pete’s coach when he was in college but Pete was amazing but here’s the thing he they didn’t allow freshman to play so Pete

Didn’t get to play college basketball when he was a freshman so he only got the three years and Caitlyn Clark got to play four years but the thing you got to know is pistol shot 38 times a game 38 times Caitlyn Clark shoots 20 a game so

He’s basically shot almost twice as many time shots per game is she did so anyway good for Caitlyn Clark I still pistol beat you’ll always be my hero and he died at a young age of a heart attack he was in his 40s and that was sad for me

Because he kind of seemed like he got his life you know he had a hard life and then you know with his dad was really hard on him and he went through a lot in the NBA things didn’t work out that great for him the way that he was

Treated by veteran players and stuff that’s another story but it’s a piston podcast so sorry about that anyway we got to come back and play Tuesday against the Heat hopefully things look better things can turn around our team you know there is more hope we’re playing our young guys and you know
